Cancer and Hands – Search for Mother

Cancer

four archetypes

Cancer is a feeling type. Feeling types have the strongest potential of the four basic types for expressing their highest spiritual nature. They’re intuitive, empathic, sensitive, and very aware of the needs of others. They can be very hard to understand because they tend to hide their true selves. They take cover in their shells when you try to pry into their private lives. They’re cautious because they feel deeply vulnerable. Cancer types must learn to be frank and direct, rather than wield tact and diplomacy to avoid emotional confrontation. Avoiding confrontation doesn’t mean they won’t cultivate intimacy wherever and whenever they can. Cancer feelings can swing from loving and devoted to secretive and reclusive to obsessive and fearful. When Cancer types are feeling controlled or confined, they can become dark and moody. They need to feel protected and secure before they can fully trust. Once trust is earned, loyalties run deep. Healthy family ties and close friendships nourish their naturally nurturing natures. Having organization, structure, and detail helps them feel more stable and secure.

Healthy types have no problem expressing love, compassion, sympathy, and devotion. They communicate best with other feeling types and feel safe with practical types who are responsible, reliable, and dependable. Feeling types are thinking and intuitive type challenged. They’re nervous they’ll be left holding the psychic garbage bag and forced to deal with the emotional fallout when idealism, optimism, enthusiasm, and logic wane, and they do. Having acute consciousness of one’s own emotional needs is essential.

Pure types tend to be internally secretive and externally ambitious at the same time. They’ll work extremely hard as long as income matches output. That income provides food, family security, and fertile ground for their roots and resourceful imaginations.

Demeter is the Greek earth goddess of grain and the harvest. I chose her to represent Cancer and water because she’s a powerful mother. Cancer mothers (not all) are thought to be controlling and overprotective of their children. When Pluto abducted Persephone, Demeter exercised her mother power over all the gods, goddesses, and mankind by creating winter (death of flora) for the months that Persephone is with Pluto.

Feeling handYou don’t have to have a Cancer sun to have Cancer hands and behavior. Rectangular palms and long fingers (often held closely together) indicate dominant feeling types. Healthy Cancer hands are firm in consistency and moderate in flexibility with pink elastic skin. Joints are less stiff than Scorpion and less flexible than Piscean types. Healthy types have a firm sincere handshake. More lines add more sensitivity. Head and life lines may separate at their beginnings. Long head lines gently slope downward toward well-developed heels of the hands while long heart lines gracefully curve upward toward the index finger. I’ve observed a lot of round or conical fingertips with long nails and a majority of loop fingerprints, but not enough to generalize.

Lloyd Wilson

“You’ve got to play to lose”

Kennywood memoriesForty-one years ago, this moment was captured in a photo booth at Kennywood Amusement Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lloyd and I met while employed part time at a metal, plastics, and woodworking machine shop where we fabricated preschool children’s learning thingamajigs. We made toys for ourselves on our own time. We were about to graduate from different colleges. I’d become an industrial designer. Lloyd would continue to be an artist. We were actually a couple of Peter Pans on our way to Neverland.

Once upon a time, we hitchhiked to a local auto drive-away place, surveyed some pins on a map, and impulsively decided to drive a brand new black Cadillac Fleetwood limousine from Pittsburgh to Miami Beach. We had three days to get there. With a lot of caffeine and humor, we made it in twenty-four hours. We visited Lloyd’s older sister when we arrived, pretending we were successful entrepreneurs. While we were out shooting skeet and racing go-carts at the local track, Lloyd’s sister thoughtfully washed our laundry for us. We came home to find our ragged underwear and socks hanging on her clothes line. The jig was up. Then we drove the Caddy to the beach in search of horny females, but didn’t enchant any.

Lloyd would say to me, “People who tell the truth don’t need to have good memories”. I’d reply, “We may be bastards, but at least we’re honest”. Fifty years of friendship have witnessed many challenging lessons in humility for us. We delayed our outer world from harmonizing with our inner world by always choosing to learn the hard way. There were no shortcuts. We had to finally let go of our need to be more and greater than we were.

Lloyd’s slender rectangular palms and long fingers harmonize with his Cancer sun, which is conjunct my Mercury. His Gemini ascendant harmonizes with my Gemini sun. Lloyd’s head and life lines are tightly intertwined at their beginnings and reveal his desire to feel appreciated. He was a sensitive child who needed love and support, but didn’t  get any. Lloyd tried hard to fix his broken parents, but they were too sick to give him approval and appreciation. Instead, they judged, criticized, and abused him. Lloyd can survive without anyone’s approval, but he thrives on appreciation. He’ll give his friends the shirt off his back, but they had better not take him for granted. Lloyd has literally given me the shirt off his back in my moment of need. I was on my way to an important meeting and got a nasty stain on my shirt. Before I could blink, Lloyd took off his shirt and traded with me.

Lloyd’s a quick thinker and extremely clever with words. Soon after we met, he was on the TV word show “Jeopardy”. When the host asked, “What do you do Mister Wilson?”  Lloyd replied, “I’m a sculptor”. “What kind of sculpture do you make?” Not having a quick easy explanation for his broad eclectic mind and artwork, Lloyd sized up the marketing opportunity and responded in his deep resonant voice, “Expensive Sculpture”.

Lloyd with sculptures

Lloyd didn’t get much nurturing as a child. He developed his quick wit and sense of humor while trying to avoid extreme physical abuse. When his mother was happy, Lloyd was safe. When she was unhappy, she’d incite Lloyd’s rage filled father to hurt him. Lloyd’s mother committed suicide, his father was committed to a mental institution, and his beautiful sister, who I’d met in Florida with her two young children, great husband, and apparently idyllic life, suddenly and unexpectedly blew her head off with a shotgun.

flexible thumbLloyd’s very flexible thumbs symbolize his ability to adapt to the most horrible of circumstances. They also embody his generosity of heart and spirit. It’s very hard for Lloyd to say “NO”. He probably doesn’t realize it, but the gold ring on the bottom middle finger of Lloyd’s unconscious hand symbolizes his need to have clear boundaries, be frugal, and not give everything away.

Cancers are collectors. Some stockpile food in case of shortage or emergency. Lloyd collects art books, literature (he’s the most well-read person I know), religious art, art supplies, tools, and clothing. When wealthy people die, their families donate their clothing to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Lloyd has a keen eye for the finest designer clothing as he picks through the merchandise. He’s a master bargain hunter. I call him my personal dresser. We wear the same sizes. Lloyd chooses suits, coats, and jackets with me in mind. He has gifted me with suits worth thousands of dollars that he paid ten or fifteen dollars for. Many have never been worn.

Lloyd Wilson is Pittsburgh’s best kept secret because he loves his anonymity. His artwork reveals a magical spirit, but few will ever get to know it. Lloyd personifies Cancer’s best qualities. He’s supportive, sympathetic, receptive, reflective, intuitive, imaginative, and extremely devoted to friends and family.  It’s no surprise he’s my best friend.

USA PRESIDENTIAL HISTORY

Mission Accomplished?

Mission Accomplished?

There have been four US Presidents born under the sign of Cancer. The most recent and worst (in my opinion) President in history was George W Bush. His intuitive hands and personality match his Leo ascendant. George manifested the worst qualities of Cancer and Leo in his presidential intentions and actions. Here’s my rant I featured him in.

There were three previous Cancer Presidents. It’s interesting to look at the similarities.

John Quincy AdamsLike George W. Bush vs. Al Gore, the 6th President, John Quincy Adams finished second in the popular vote behind General Andrew Jackson. No one had a sizable majority. The choice was put before the House of Representatives. The House Speaker, Henry Clay, swung the election to Adams. When Adams appointed Clay as Secretary of State, the Jackson followers cried, “Corrupt bargain”.

Unlike Bush, Adams was not re-installed. Here’s a quote on Adams by W.H. Littleton. “Of all the men whom it was ever my lot to accost and to waste civilities upon, he was the most doggedly and systematically repulsive. With a vinegar aspect, cotton in his leathern ears, and hatred in his heart, he sat… like a bulldog among spaniels”.

Calvin CooledgeThe 30th President, Calvin Coolidge, shared his (July 4) birthday with the US Declaration of Independence. His most famous characteristic, “holding his tongue”, earned him the title, “Silent Cal”. Two infamous sayings of his were, “If you don’t say anything, you won’t be called on to repeat it” and “The business of America is business”.  William Allen White described him, “He was an economic fatalist with a God given inertia. He knew nothing and refused to learn”. “He was weaned on a pickle” declared Alice Roosevelt Longworth

Gerald FordThe 38th President, Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr., didn’t learn that he had been adopted until he was seventeen years old. His wife Betty performed the domestic chores because Gerry wouldn’t lift a finger around the house.   As Speaker of the other house, Ford passionately pleaded for escalation of the war in Vietnam. He urged members to “unleash devastating air and sea power”.

Ford launched an unsuccessful crusade to impeach liberal Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas as a favor to his buddy Richard Nixon. Ford ultimately granted Nixon a “full complete and absolute pardon” for all his crimes relating to the Watergate scandal. Ford also blamed the democrats for the disastrous rate of inflation and warned that electing more democrats would “jeopardize world peace”. He admitted that he almost never read books, but did find time to watch football on TV. Here are a few quotes from some of his celebrated critics.

“I cannot dislike him personally — he’s cordial and gracious. But he’s consistently wrong and consistency is a virtue of small minds. He’s never proposed a constructive solution to anything”.  Congressman Robert Drinan

Lyndon Johnson accused Ford of “playing too much football with his helmet off”. “Jerry’s the only man I ever knew who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time”.

“Ford isn’t a bad man, but he’s dumb—dumb. He shouldn’t be dumb either. He went to school just like everybody else”.  Reverend Duncan Littlefair

The important thing is that men should have a purpose in life… it should be something useful, something good

Dalai LamaIn contrast to George W Bush, the Dalai Lama is “the reborn soul of Buddha” and Nobel Prize winning pacifist. In Greek mythology, Orpheus was a singer, priest, healer, poet, and musician who could charm anyone. Orpheus enchanted Pluto into letting him enter the collective unconscious to retrieve his beloved Eurydice. In a moment of weakness, Orpheus looked back at death after being warned not to by Pluto. Orpheus lost Eurydice. He symbolizes the wounded healer who can heal others but not himself. The Dalai Lama was forced to flee Tibet in 1959. He lived as a “simple monk” in a remote corner of Northern India. His lifetime goals are to promote peace and love in the world and return to Tibet. You can bet whatever we owe China that it won’t happen anytime soon.

Pluto glyphAs the planet Pluto (god of sex, death, and transformation) transited the sign of Cancer from 1913 to 1938, partisan politics, nationalism, and isolationism transformed the world. World War I ended. World War II began. In 1913, President Wilson pressed a button in the White House that blew up the Gamboa Dike resulting in the destruction of the Isthmus of Panama. That action transformed travel by sea by creating a canal between oceans. Wilson legislated the Carter-Owen Bill that established a Federal Reserve System that transformed the strangle hold on the nation’s currency and credit system by banks.

Daylight Saving Time transformed the nation’s clocks. Transcontinental telephone service transformed international communications. World communications and atomic energy were developed. NBC became the first Nationwide Broadcasting Company. Wall Street prospered from the war while soldiers earning $16 per month died in the trenches. President Wilson established a lottery style draft promoting patriotism, while Congress passed the Espionage Act fining draft dodgers $10,000 and imposing a twenty-year jail sentence. No child was left behind.

Everyone was encouraged to “Do your bit”. Liberty Bonds and wheatless-meatless days were promoted. By the end of 1919, the Influenza pandemic had peaked causing over half a million deaths while almost one quarter of the nation’s population were sick. Prohibition banned liquor for all U.S. citizens. A huge black market and bootlegging industry began to thrive. Black leader Marcus Garvey organized The Empire of Africa that attracted over 500,000 followers. He led the largest mass exodus of Blacks in U.S. history. There was little sense of brotherhood.

Great SealIn 1929, doubt, fear, and panic upset the stock market which faced its darkest hour and most difficult crisis in history. Traditional foundations of home and family transformed. People born during this period spent much of their lives taking care of family. Parents with overdeveloped guilt and obligation trips motivated children of this generation to become dropouts and runaways.

Bikini bottomAs the planet Uranus transited the sign of Cancer from 1949 to1955, Mothers stopped staying at home and went to work. Women began wearing the “bikini”, a fashionable French bathing suit. ‘I Love Lucy’, a comical show about a housewife and Cuban bandleader husband became the most popular show on TV. Ranch houses and basement playrooms became popular. The subconscious mind was explored in psychology.  People born between 1949 and 1955 with Uranus in Cancer may be oversensitive and easily hurt by irrational fears, or they may be rational, aware, and strong by choice.

Gemini and Hands

Gemini

GEMINI and HANDS

MAY 23 – JUNE 21

Gemini is the consummate communicator of the zodiac. She’s the most social of all types. He’s frequently accused of being an impractical dreamer because he loves ideas so much. She can detach herself from mundane reality and be objective about anything. He overvalues his intellect and undervalues his own and everyone else’s emotion. She feels threatened when her opinions are ignored. He can accept your point of view, even when he disagrees with you. She’s gets mad when her ideas are challenged without good reason. He’s easily distracted when he chooses not to be responsible for his decisions. She resists focus, discipline, and structure. Gemini loves to be mentally free.

Gemini rules hands. It also governs our respiratory and nervous systems. Gemini types are the most adaptable of all thinking (air) types. They have more flexibility in their joints, thumbs, and fingers than Aquarian or Libran types. Their life, head, and heart lines tend to split at their ends. In general, I’ve found a lot of line splits in duel signs. Dominant Libra splits at the end of the head line. Cancer and Pisces heart lines split.

Healthy Geminis have straight and strong pinkie fingers. They persuade you with logic and good sense. Long ring fingers make them even more attractive and irresistible. Gemini hands are firm with pink elastic skin. If you see yellow, there’s probably some nastiness going on somewhere. The trickster is good at hiding his dark side.

You don’t have to be a Gemini to have Gemini hands. It’s very powerful when a person’s sun sign matches their hand type. I’ve read a lot of famous people with sun signs and hands that match. It’s impossible to foretell from a natal astrology chart what symbolism will dominate a character. A sun, moon, stellium of planets, dominant house, or powerful aspects between certain planets or points in a horoscope may or may not determine what the native chooses to embrace. Hands can oppose a horoscope. As we embrace our strengths or choose darkness, our thinking and circumstances will be revealed in the morphology and topography of our hands over time.

I have Scorpio rising. Pluto closely conjuncts Saturn on my Leo midheaven. My eighth house is packed with Gemini planets. Chiron is conjunct my Scorpio ascendant. Based on my horoscope, my behavior should be Scorpio. I’m very Gemini. That’s my hand above. Scorpio is very powerful on my inside. It’s no wonder I’m obsessed with getting people to look at their hands. So much valuable information can be seen at the ends of our arms. All we have to do is learn to see the help in our helping hands.

Gemini is the most youthful and clever of all types. John F. Kennedy, youngest and first Catholic president was Peter Pan. Jackie was Wendy. Marilyn Monroe was Tinkerbell. John was a rogue and womanizer reputed for being raunchy and funny. The charming “Prince of Camelot” suffered depressing physical fatigue from Addison’s disease. The public never saw the pain in his joints. Kennedy wrote Profiles of Courage, which won a 1957 Pulitzer Prize. According to John’s biographers, his greatest challenge was not to choose winning over high moral standards.

Peter PanOther Peter Pans were Pat Boone, who sold 18 million records by age 24. Tony Curtis was the ‘Great Imposter’. Bob Dylan sang “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right”. Judy Garland was Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Henry Kissinger was the multi-lingual secretary of state under Richard Nixon. Joan Rivers was a comedian. Gene Wilder was Willy Wonka. Michael Jackson lived in Neverland.

finger lengthA pinkie is the shortest finger. If a tip is longer than the crease between the first and second phalange of the ring finger, it’s considered long. If shorter, it’s short. Hermes (Mercury) was the shortest god. A dominant pinkie fingered person is short in stature (Ed Harris) with a slender body and face. She has expressive hands, dark hair, and penetrating eyes with crow’s feet in the corners. He’s very youthful. Men often have thin beards (Johnny Depp).

Hermes loves children. He’s childlike and androgynous. Hermes and Aphrodite had a fling that created Hermaphrodite. Many dominant Hermes (may not know or admit it) are bi-sexual. David Bowie is a Capricorn with powerful Hermes. Prominent pinkie people prefer small musical instruments that require a lot of dexterity. Music makes sense because hearing is their physical sense. In real life, Peter marries Wendy or a parent. Someone’s got to be practical. Caitlyn (Bruce) Jenner is Peter and Wendy.

Hermes health issues relate to their nervous and bronchial systems. Hermes can have problems with headaches, thyroid glands, memory loss, and speech impediments. I’ve been coping with Tinnitus (ringing in ears). Hermes makes great lawyers, politicians, doctors, orators, writers, engineers, teachers, accountants, bankers, and shopkeepers.

A cultivated Gemini is a social and intuitive prodigy and a great judge of character. Pinkie fingers reveal the ability to communicate and be truthful. Early family dynamic is seen in how a pinkie is set on the hand. If it’s very short or low set, trust may be a major issue. Some women with low set pinkies have told me that they have a hard time having real orgasms. They fake them and keep their secret. Their greater challenge is learning to trust themselves and others enough to have real intimacy. Lengths and proportions of fingers, knots, nails, and shapes of tips reveal language, family, and sexual potentials.

curved pinky fingerWould you buy a used car from this guy? Gemini liabilities are trickiness, fickleness, nervousness, restlessness, and superficiality. Many preachers on soapboxes, pickpockets, and con artists have inwardly curving pinkies. There are also many wonderful incredible people with curved pinkies.

I work at special events with great magicians. These tricksters have a Mercurial nature. They astound audiences by deceiving the eye and mind of the beholder. I’ve watched amazing tricks over and over again and am constantly blown away. One friend, a close- up magician, sometimes works the lines of guests at special events that are waiting for my five minute hand readings. I overhear people asking him, “Is this real magic?” My friend says, “No, these are tricks. If you want real magic, go see Mark.” The real magic of reading hands is not the science and art of palmistry, but knowing oneself and others.

Pinky ringGold and diamond pinkie rings are frequently found on acquisitive people who sublimate their sexual energies to accomplish something of value. I once examined the hands of fifty men born to wealthy families in the eighties. It seemed paradoxical to me that they all had a tiny bottom phalange on their pinkie. Money for the sake of money will never be a motivation for their major life choices. Family, friends, and good causes will fuel their values and good intentions.

I plan to feature family and friends in future posts. Meet my mother.

“Eighty years of age does not seem old to me. Old is when one is again dependent as we were in infancy – needing help as a constant to feed and care for oneself. Who knows, I may die from an illness before I ever get old, then on to my next adventure.” Mom was eighty-three when Hermes gracefully and graciously escorted her to death.

mom with hands upMom was a consummate Gemini. Born a day before the summer solstice, she pondered her intentions, roles, and script until her last breath. She cared deeply for family and friends. For the last several years of her life, she quietly battled her mortality via metastasized breast cancer and a mass of malignant tumors in her liver that sucked her energy and tested her fundamental truths. Never complaining, mom’s endless encouragement, noble idealism, eternal optimism, and refreshingly ruthless honesty always inspired me to remain true to myself.

Bobie and ZadieMom considered herself lucky. She chose to lead a worthwhile and productive life. Her square palms and widely spread long fingers belonged to the youngest child of hard working Russian Jewish immigrants who cherished each other and their five children. Mom’s long strong index fingers symbolize her ambition to achieve. She was the first in her family to attend and graduate from college. Her family struggled financially, but always felt rich. Mom’s father (my Zadie) was the most generous man I’ve ever known. He had abundant warmth and good spirits and loose change for everyone. I remember in early childhood, Zadie showing up at mealtimes with some poor person he’d met on the street. There was always more than enough delicious homemade food for all. I cherish my memories of my Bobie and Zadie.

DCF 1.0

Mom’s two oldest sisters died tragically when she was young. Her surviving older sister, Bea, was a renegade. Mom was the brilliant talented young princess who could do no wrong. Bea (Sagittarius) was brilliant and talented too, but Bea did what Bea wanted to do. At eighty in this picture, she’s still sassy with her healthy earthy intuitive hands.

When Bobie was very old, her Alzheimer’s forced us to place her in a home where she could receive constant care. It was sad for everyone. Mom and Bea visited her often. Mom’s greatest fear was losing her mind. Bobie had no idea who mom was. That scared the crap out of her. One day, Bea visited Bobie. Bobie asked, “Who are you?” Bea replied, “I’m your daughter.”  “I have a daughter?” Bobie inquired. “You have two daughters” said Bea. “Which one are you?” asked Bobie. “The bad one!” exclaimed Bea. Bobie remembered, “Oh Bea!”  Bea eventually ended up like Bobie.

Mom was blessed in friendship. She attributed her ability to make friends easily to having to move frequently in childhood. With so many changes involving multiple schools, mom had to adapt and develop social skills. She fulfilled her friend potentials. When you examine the balls of mom’s thumbs, you see long lines parallel to her lifeline. Mom maintained intimate friendships for her whole life. She and her friends faithfully loved each other through their joys, tragedies, children, grandchildren, heart attacks, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Diabetes, Cancer, and many other dis-eases of old age.

mom and dad honeymoonThe best thing our mother did for herself and her children was to marry our father. Dad spotted mom at a bus stop. It was love at first sight. She was a twenty-one year old virgin princess. He was a twenty-five year old former bad boy, turning good, just back from the horrors of World War II.

She played Eurydice to his Orpheus. Dad (Pisces) literally sang his ideas and tunes. Mom would craft his lyrics and refine his tunes as she accompanied his singing on the piano. We kids thought they were nuts, but our parents thought enough of themselves to peddle their wares down Tin Pan Alley, hoping for the next bestselling 45 rpm record. They promoted their favorite song “The Crack of the Carbine”, a tragic tale of a young murdered white tail doe, her homeless fawn, and a remorseful hunter. Dad sang it so passionately and mournfully that I had to fight off the tear in the corner of my eye. Our parents’ tragic mistake was hiring a professional demo singer, a hunter without a soul.

Dad was sentimental and sent mom a romantic anniversary card every month of their marriage until he suddenly and unexpectedly died at age fifty-four. We found albums full of them that mom had organized and saved. Dad also left short love notes around the house for mom to find and always had plenty of gifts and hugs for everyone else. He left mom a 3 X 5 notecard on the day he died ~ I LOVE YOU. Mom laminated it in plastic and placed it in a special spot on her dresser where she would always see it.

I was conceived on my parent’s wedding night and born nine months and one day later. Mom wanted natural childbirth; however, after fighting with me for thirty-six hours, the time had come for me to be cut out. I needed my horoscope. A natal chart is a mother’s transits at the exact moment and location of birth. My mother was inches from dying. She spent several weeks convalescing. I don’t remember bonding with her. When I first began to explore astrology, I hired a famous astrologer for my maiden reading. “This is a death chart”, she told me. She reflected many interesting things about my character, patterns, and habits. What I walked away with was this, “You will die and be reborn many times until you learn to fully love and let go of fear”. OK. I accept. What’s next?

When I was forty, I hired Dr. Laurie Nadel, a psychologist to take me back in time. She’d written a book, The Sixth Sense, on past life regression and was well known for her work in the field. Laurie encouraged me to visualize my life as a tunnel with a series of lights going backward through time. As I journeyed back, my job was to turn on the lights wherever they were out. I needed to jog my subconscious memory for that. After an hour or so, I arrived somewhere between age two and three. The tunnel was black. As I began turning those lights on, I found myself sitting on a tiny wooden potty, not needing to have a bowel movement, but still making grunting noises while my mother was concurrently teaching me to read. No one could ever accuse mom of being unambitious or inefficient. I’ll bet I was the first boy on my block to be out of diapers and reading at the same time. Mom set a timer on a variety of occasions (with threat of punishment) to help me achieve tasks that needed to be completed in a timely fashion. In her defense, with my highly flexible thumbs and fingers (my dominant thumb became stiff as I aged), I was talented, but also the most unstructured, undisciplined, and unfocused kid on the block. Peter Pan doesn’t like restrictions. I never did get to past lives in that session.

Dad with his kidsWhen I was four, my brother, Gary (Pisces with Libra hands) was born. At seven, Jennifer (Taurus with Aquarius hands) arrived. Mom said, “Parents make their biggest mistakes on their first”. That was true for me. Mom considered raising her children the greatest accomplishment in her life. At twenty, I confronted her to let her know that I wasn’t perfect and that she had made plenty of mistakes. Here is her response.

“My mistakes were not intentional. I’m sorry for anything I did which caused you any harm. I tried my best to be a good parent. You’ll understand when you’re a parent. You’re an adult now. You must grow up and get past whatever holds you back and be as healthy and happy as you can be.” She was right. What could I say? I forgave and thanked her. Gary and Jennifer were spared my most challenging lessons. Fortunately, we’ve all turned out well in ways that matter most to all of us.

Mom was a cultivated Gemini. The unearned princess became a self-appointed Queen. Mom’s friends and family accepted and supported her highness. Like Athena, mom ruled with strength, courage, dignity, and nobility. I was ten years old when mom read ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’ by Victor Frankl. It powerfully reinforced what she already knew and confirmed her most important value in life, which was her understanding that while she couldn’t always control what happened to her, she had the power to choose what she thought, felt, and did about it. “Whatever happens to you”, she said to me, “Whether you’re going out in the rain with or without an umbrella or going to the electric chair screaming or with dignity, you have the ability to choose your behavior”.

My family was like a 1950’s TV sitcom. ‘Mother Knows Best’. Mom was an ‘at home’ mom during our formative years, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t work. She was a freelance gag writer for The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, and Family Circus (weekly comics in syndicated newspapers). She also wrote articles for women’s magazines. Mom was a wiz at crossword puzzles, jingles, or saying something in fifty words or less. I remember her winning about fifty contests one year. Some were national. The rewards were small.

Aunt RuthMom was a daunting scrabble player and the most formidable opponent for the Queen of Scrabble in our family, dad’s sister, Aunt Ruth. Ruth has a strong independent pinkie on her right hand and long practical head lines. She always gave me birthday presents like plain underwear and sox. I treasure her and Uncle Sam’s memory, and my cousins Shirley, Roz, and Max…

Check out the strong family resemblances and hands. The biggest differences are in hand flexibility, consistency, and elasticity of skin which you can’t see in the picture.

Mom as poster child at 77Even in the direst of circumstances, mom had a sense of humor. While lying in her hospital bed with tubes going in and out of her, she said to me, “What worries me most is how nice everyone is to me. Do they know something I don’t?” Jennifer warned, “You’re not allowed to die until you finish raising my (teenage) kids”. She joked about buying mom’s casket at Costco. Mom loved the idea. My brother said, “I’ll start worrying when you stop putting on your makeup”. He threatened to taxidermy her and promised to consign her to a corner in his living room if she didn’t stick around. In intensive care, the doctor told us that in all his years, he had never had a patient who was so sick and so determined not to look like it. Wheeling mom around the hospital, people thought I was her husband. I’d say “Thanks for the compliment, but I’m her father”. “Pleased to meet you”, they’d say. It’s never too late to embarrass your dying mother who’s still 39 at 83. Some things never change.

Mom's exercise ball videoTo get a real taste for mom’s Gemini personality, watch her exercise ball video. She was 78. It was made in response to my sister sending her the ball. Though the quality isn’t great, I guarantee the humor!

Dad's commercialsIf the definition of a genius is an average student with a Jewish mother, ours was father (Pisces). It’s impossible for me to show mom’s humor without sharing dad’s antics.

Gemini and Hermes

`Gemini

 GEMINI   MAY 23 – JUNE 21

“The lips of wisdom are closed, except to the ears of understanding.” Hermes

Mercury retrograde in Gemini is an ideal time to review and renew our thoughts and ideas.

HermesThe supreme thinker of all time was Hermes Trismegistus, father of occult wisdom, astrology, and alchemy. Hermes was a real person who lived in ancient Egypt. He was the mystic teacher of Abraham. The Egyptians called him Thoth, scribe of the gods. Hermes became the Greek god of Wisdom. The Romans dubbed him Mercury, messenger of the gods. He’s the Magician in Tarot, at an eternal crossroads with the resources and tools he needs to go wherever, whenever, and however he chooses. His key challenge is making the right choices.

Hermes resides in Gemini (social) in spring and Virgo (service) in autumn. God of trade, thieves, travelers, sports, athletes, and border crossings, Hermes delivered messages from Mt. Olympus to mortals through their dreams and guided souls to the underworld. He was worshiped by farmers for nature and shepherds. Hermes was a liaison between the visible and invisible. He refused to grow old and remained young in spirit as he aged gracefully for three hundred years in the flesh. Peter Pan, who flies and never grows old, is Hermes’ adolescence. I’m soon to be 68 and still like a teenager with my ideal Wendy!

Hermes was the father of wireless communication. His disciples understood their brains were cell communication hardware while their minds transmitted and received messages. Long before Moses, while most alchemists were trying to turn lead into Gold, Hermes realized that the real gold was found in relationships between cells made up of energy and matter that vibrated on physical, mental, and spiritual planes. Everyone and everything consists of individual cells that are physically, mentally, and spiritually connected to all other cells on all other planes at the same time. We can connect to anyone or thing at any time by realizing, recognizing, establishing, and tuning our links.

Hermetic alchemy is the mastery of mental forces to transmute one kind of mental vibration into another as opposed to manipulating material elements. Hermes calls the unknowable and indefinable spirit THE ALL. The inner nature of THE ALL is unknowable. That’s why we have anthropomorphic gods and institutionalized religion.

“While ALL is in THE ALL, it is equally true that THE ALL is in ALL. To him who truly understands this truth hath come great knowledge”

Hermes describes spirit as the essence which permeates ALL and bonds THE ALL. Our spiritual development is dependent on our recognition and realization of the universal spirit within each of us. Hermes identified seven metaphysical principles and established seven philosophical practices that explored, examined, and explained his theories of mentalism, correspondence, vibration, polarity, rhythm, cause and effect, and gender. Hermes awareness of spirit enabled him to give form to the formless.

ying yangAccording to Hermes, opposites are two extremes of the same thing with varying degrees between. Where does heat end and cold begin? Where does darkness stop and light begin?  How about hard and soft, sharp and dull, noisy and quiet, high and low, and positive and negative?

The same principle operates on the mental plane. Love and hate are opposites with like and dislike being shades of gray. Vibrations of hate can be transformed to vibrations of love through the art of polarization, a mental science known and practiced by ancient and modern Hermetic masters. The Kybalion says, “Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature but different by degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled” “THE SECRET” is polarization.

Hermeticists were the original astrologers, alchemists, and psychologists. Ancients possessed knowledge of transcendental astronomy through astrology; transcendental chemistry through alchemy; and transcendental psychology through mystic psychology. Great philosophers and thinkers throughout history have unlocked the mysteries of nature with symbolism. Galileo was an Astronomer, Pythagoras was a Mathematician, Confucius was a Philosopher, Plato was a Thinker, Aristotle was a Scientist, Nostradamus was an Astrologer, Leonardo Da Vinci was an Artist, George Washington was a President, Carl Jung was a Psychologist, and Joseph Campbell was a Mythologist. They were all grand masters of metaphysical symbolism.

Real alchemy isn’t about turning lead (Saturn) into gold (Sun). Alchemy is a set of magical formulas, tools, and esoteric instruction for becoming healthy, happy, and spiritually fulfilled in life. Initiates learn to cultivate clear vision, make healthy choices, and maintain healthy attitudes, nurture relationships, build sound structures on solid foundations, and face challenges with strength, courage, dignity, wisdom, and faith.

Healthy seeds planted in healthy soils produce bountiful harvests of inner and outer knowledge and wealth. Successful alchemists are disciplined, structured, focused, mentally clear, emotionally balanced, and spiritually magnetized. The laws of attraction work best when you know what you want and your intent is clear. Spiritual alchemy can transform negative circumstances into positive challenges with favorable results. Each and every relationship affects each and every other relationship on a cellular level by raising or diminishing its vibration, polarity, and rhythm.

Astrology was one of the languages Hermes used to unlock the ancient mysteries. Astrology compares and contrasts the heavens with the affairs of mankind on earth. Astrologers espouse Hermes second principle of correspondence “As above, so below – as below, so above”. The diversity of astrological symbols and their relationships describe each of us and our roles in this huge dysfunctional family we call humanity.

Hermes is an important archetype in our personal and collective psyches. He asks us to embrace the positive aspects of our characters and give ourselves permission to be healthy and happy. Hermes helps us communicate with our families, friends, and other fellow human beings.

Gemini has a quick mind. He has no problem acknowledging your point of view, even when he disagrees with you. She seems to be able to converse about anything at any time with anyone. He’s versatile, curious, logical, spontaneous, and witty. She’s one of the most interesting people you’ll ever meet. He can handle plenty of information, analysis, and detail, though he’d rather be free of responsibilities. She’s too clever for her own good. He’s not beyond bending the truth to suit his needs. She can be a con artist, thief, or pickpocket. He can be restless, nervous, superficial, and unreliable. She’s notorious for being indecisive, ambiguous, and ambivalent. He’s sometimes accused of being schizophrenic. Maintaining long term relationships that aren’t true friendships is a formula for failure. His greatest fulfillment and success comes from learning to stay structured, disciplined, and focused in the midst of utter distraction.

Shine your virtue and healthy intent brightly on the most beneficial and constructive aspects of your character and you too will turn lead into gold.

Taurus – Understanding Values

Taurus

Pope Francis

Pope Francis was designed to blend love and spirituality with healthy values and good sense. He’s a Sagittarian with Sagittarius / Taurus hands. Notice there’s barely a bottom phalanx on his pinkie finger. Francis doesn’t care about stuff. He truly loves humanity and practices what he preaches.

Pope John Paul ll was a radiant light of Taurus. He asked the rich to share their wealth with the poor. He was the first Pope to visit a synagogue and encouraged Catholics and Jews to love one another. Nearly assassinated, he also survived countless chaotic messes and reforms in the church.

Many popular and powerful people in the world were born under the sign of Taurus.

Krishnamurti, a spiritual guide, shared his good sense with whoever would listen.

Leonardo da Vinci, great artist and inventor, was a real Renaissance man.

Sigmund Freud was father of modern psychoanalysis.

Karl Marx developed the theory of socialism.

Martha Graham was mother of modern dance.

Katherine Hepburn was Grande Dame of American stage and movies.

Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister Tony Blair have been anchors for Great Britain.

Citizen KaneWilliam Randolph Hearst and Orson Welles (both bulls) battled stubbornly over the making and release of the movie, ‘Citizen Kane’. Kane was a Midas who Welles immodestly modeled after Hearst. Despite his natural charisma and brilliant acting and directing, Welles was no match for Hearst’s financial fortune and ability to influence the masses. Hearst was stubborn, acquisitive, possessive, and controlling. Welles was determined and persistent in his righteous defiance of Hearst. Hearst tortured Welles with legal obstacles and bludgeoned him with bad publicity until he could no longer afford his principles, rise to his challenges, or control his self-indulgences (a peril for Taurus).

“The great mass of people will more easily fall victim to a big lie than a small one”

swastika

Adolf HitlerA cruel Taurus is a zealous extremist in desperate need of spiritual guidance. From the darkest depths of Taurus arose a German dictator from 1933 to 1945. Adolph Hitler was responsible for over thirty million deaths. He transformed the world by harnessing the power of fear and terror and linking it with the power of symbolism to control and manipulate the masses. Jim Jones was a fanatic cult figure who led a thousand people to their mass suicide in 1978. Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh showed no remorse for his evil act.  Saddam Hussein (Iraqi President from 1979) was shamed and publicly slain by the United States.

Most Taurus types are inherently honest, hardworking, and dependable. They won’t bend the truth or perform a song and dance act for anyone. Their basic need for physical security fuels a practical and responsible nature. I read a lot of these types at corporate special events. They thrive in real estate, investment, and banking. Years ago, the wives used to drag them over to me. I was young and their husbands were too skeptical or superstitious of anything occult to come on their own. I assured them I was also a skeptic. I’d say, “I’m not here to prove anything. Take what works. Leave what doesn’t.”

I’ve been reading hands at corporate events for over thirty years. Once I’ve set up and settled in before the guests arrive, event planners bring the top brass to test my powers of observation. Everyone is curious to hear what I have to say about their character. I bet I’ve read more CEOs, CFOs, CIOs, and COOs than any reader of anything anywhere. Sometimes, I work events where all the guests are CEOs. Normally they’re impossible to meet. I hold their hands in mine, make eye contact with them, and reflect on their personal issues for five-minutes. The magic of Taurus is in knowing and sharing true value.

As creatures of habit, Taurus must learn to pay attention to their habits from the get go. One lesson that must be learned is ‘procrastination produces inertia’. Once Taurus takes initiative, they must let go of what isn’t working, accept what needs to change, trust their intuition, and share their bountiful harvest of true wealth. I believe all wealthy people should be spiritually taxed to make a commitment to a worthy social cause where they can make a real difference. They can choose their cause.

No matter your sun sign, authentic Taurus hands are meaty with large full balls of the thumb, square fingertips, developed second knots, large broad pink nails, and deeply engraved basic lines (very few peripheral lines). The head line is often closely intertwined with the life line.

‘Less is more’ learned King Midas when he wished for the touch of gold, got it, and turned his lovely daughter and their magical relationship into a hunk of metal. His food turned to gold as it touched his lips. Midas teaches us about values. He shows us how we can be stable and secure so that we can clearly know what we want and need. He teaches us how to be flexible and to let go of our outer wants by raising our awareness of what truly matters. Aphrodite (Greek) and Venus (Roman) rule Taurus and symbolize the pleasure loving nature of the bull. She’s creative, bountiful, and appreciates all things sensual and beautiful.

Large balls of thumb belong to givers. Saying “No” is a huge challenge for them (even more so if the thumb is flexible). Red color adds lusty passionate energy to the personality. Pink is normal. One symptom of intimacy problems that can be seen in the hands is when there are no lines parallel to the lifeline within the ball of the thumb. Even a partial line can indicate a significant intimate relationship for that length of time, along with an ability to be intimate and vulnerable. Taurus trust and generosity must be earned, honored, and nourished like a garden.

Large ball of thumb with and without lines

“Have you ever seen any hands that freaked you out?”  When I first touched Manuel’s hands, I felt nauseous. It was sweltering hot day and an icy chill gripped my spirit. Manuel’s huge hot sweaty red balls of thumb had no lines in them. They looked as if an extra-large egg had been stuffed into them. Manuel’s tremendous desire and passion had nowhere to go because he had zero ability to be intimate with another being. He was a child serial killer. Click here to read his hands and story.

PALMISTRY AND VALUESWhen a child reaches thirteen in the Jewish tradition, he or she becomes a man or woman after passing through a religious rite of passage. Rituals take place in synagogues and require the terrified adolescent to read Hebrew from the Torah, sing, and earn their passage to adulthood. I’ve read hundreds of teenage hands at Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties. I work at dozens of these celebrations each year. They range from modest family gatherings to gigantic extravaganzas. I get to work with the world’s best magicians, caricaturists, and performers at these events. I used to be the “psychic” with my black velvet purple satin lined cape, crystal ball, and large lighted magnifying glass. Over the years, my role has transformed from psychic to five-minute best friend and bull-shit detector. It’s amazing how much value can be given in minutes.

It’s not always what you see, but what you say and how you say it that matters. An entourage’ of kids accompanied their Taurian friend to his reading. He looked like a thirteen year old CEO with his very expensive designer suit and tie. His soft pudgy square palms and short square fingers had never seen a lick of physical work. His friends jokingly urged me to “Tell him he’s gay”.

“Do you know who he is?” one of his friends asked. To me, he was one more kid with a lot of challenges ahead. Turns out he was one of the richest kids in the world. I asked his entourage’ to “back off” as I spoke with him about working harder to express his true feelings and learning to behave naturally. I could see from his eyes and body language that he wasn’t interested in what I had to say. Later that evening, he came back alone and acted like I’d never met him before. I tried to penetrate his thick shell by repeating the same advice. When I finished, he said, “I fooled you. You already read my hands”.

“I know who you are” I replied. “You’re the (so and so) boy. I’m going to offer you a valuable piece of free advice”. I looked into his eyes while holding his hands firmly, “Your money doesn’t make you better than anyone else. Your power is unearned. You’ll be old one day like everyone else and have relationship, work, and health challenges. You need to decide what you truly value. How can you make a positive difference with your abundant resources in a world that needs your help?” With eyes dropped and shoulders rounded, he slinked away. I hope he’s realized the difference he can make.

I once read hands at a sweet thirteen party at a fancy New Jersey country club. A shopping center magnate was competing with his Jewish neighbors. He must have spent $250,000 on this party. I worked my usual four-hour shift. As a five-minute palmist, I read up to 48 people in 4 hours. As I was packing my bag and preparing to head to an evening party in Manhattan, Midas arrived. He gruffly requested that I read his hands. “I’m sorry, I’m finished and in a hurry to get to another party”.

“You don’t understand” he bellowed insistently, “I’m the one who’s paying you”. I politely replied, “The party planner has already paid me”. “Then I’ll stop payment on his check!” I didn’t want to alienate my planner, so I re-plugged in my lighted magnifier. “OK hold up your hands”.

I stared intently at his square palms and short fingers. His long crooked middle fingers had grilles (peripheral lines crisscrossing) beneath, indicating a highly self-critical nature. His bitten down nails revealed an argumentative and critical nature. “Go ahead, tell me how fucked up I am”, he said.

“I won’t tell you you’re fucked up, but I will tell you what is fucked up. You’ve worked so unbelievably hard for everything you have and yet you don’t have a clue how to truly enjoy the fruits of your labor. You’re a frustrated perfectionist, extremely self-critical, and critical and judgmental of others. Lighten up and smell the roses! ” He stood up, “That’s enough. They said you were good and they were right”.

When Uranus transited Taurus from 1935 to 1942, the USA went off the gold standard. People began focusing on their values and questioning materialism. President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act. Labor organized, forming unions that went on strike and engaged in sit-downs across the nation. President Roosevelt defended the Four Essential Freedoms: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear. Partisan politics has steadily undermined our freedoms, including social and national security. People born between 1935 and 1942 have Uranus in Taurus. Many have experienced sudden and unexpected gains and reversals. Uranus will return to Taurus after 84 years in early 2019 for another seven years. The New York Stock Exchange and The Federal Reserve are bulls. Expect extreme financial fluctuations.

the great seal copyCapitalism and the banking industry are ruled by Taurus. Capitalism is characterized by individuals and businesses who exercise their financial freedom in whatever ways they see fit within law. Driven by supply, demand, innovation, and competition, capitalism raises our standard of living by heating, cooling, and lighting us. It enables us to travel freely, independently, and communicate on a grand scale. We can acquire many products and services and are empowered by money to afford them.

Capitalism is wealthy, but not wise. In theory, Capitalism can be great for all. In practice, we must be more responsible and vigilant. Like religion, the bright side of capitalism uplifts while the dark side promotes prejudice, pain, guilt, shame, and suffering. Power corrupts when real value and integrity are compromised. Capitalism fans the flames of larceny by segregating haves from have-nots. Too much temptation for too many greedy dishonest humans makes trouble for everyone. Capitalism’s heart is hard and its head is even harder. It’s easy to rationalize the most horrific of actions when they’re not happening to us. We’re closer to Armageddon than Eden. The trappings of Capitalism are its failings. Where does the light of Capitalism end and apocalyptic darkness begin?

The esoteric side of Taurus is values. Everything and nothing are of equal value; identical in nature, but different by degree. A billionaire dying of cancer will gladly trade his money for youth and good health. A famous celebrity whose child is brain damaged will gratefully scrub toilets in Grand Central for her child’s recovery. People ask, “When will I die” or “How long is my lifeline?”  I remind them they will definitely die. I tell them, “Only God knows when. It’s about quality, not quantity”.

ying yangMany people apply formulas for success, and yet few are truly successful. Unhealthy values point us down a path of self-destruction. Our challenges are not physical, but philosophical and spiritual. Success is a state of mind, heart, and spirit. Our good health and the health of our world is a reflection of our thoughts and feelings. Must we learn to value what we have by losing it?

Everyone needs good sense and wise counsel. Taurus helps us believe in ourselves, have faith, cultivate right attitudes, think positively, and set realistic goals. She teaches us honesty, responsibility, discipline, structure, focus, courage, determination, and persistence. We can all be our own best friends and bull shit detectors.

Blood Moons and Biblical Prophecy

Blood Moons and Biblical Prophecy

Blood Moon

“And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.” Bible’s Book of Joel, Chapter 3:3-4

star of david 2Today is Passover. A total lunar eclipse occurred a moment ago. The transiting moon just squared Pluto. It’s about to oppose Uranus before it goes void of course. We’re still wandering aimlessly and endlessly across a bleak and barren desert, led by our sacred cows and golden calves that must be sacrificed on the altar of true love and faith.

Many people are preparing for ‘End Time’. Before I begin my rant, I want you to know that I’ve broken rules of syntax, spelling, spacing, punctuation, rhyming, and alliteration. Most of my artwork has been excavated from the electronic ether. I’ve parodied or radically altered it to avoid copyright infringement. I’ve also included a selfie from my ‘Exhibitionist Meets Voyeur’ collection. Please suspend your preconceived ideas and beliefs. I’ve left nothing to chance but you. Take what works. Leave what doesn’t.

The human race has become a race against bad shit happening. Pious philosophies and pointless politics pollute higher purpose. Partisan paradigms and pestilential practices poison our psyche. Faulty families feast frenzily on filthy banquets of flawed feelings, vague values, and toxic thinking, copiously spiced with needless fear, desperation, and hatred. We analyze, rationalize, and compartmentalize our ideologies and beliefs while we sacrifice our dignity, integrity, and nobility on the altars of nonsense.

George and the dwarves

The sheep are restlessEveryone is frantic about what’s happening in the mid-east. Focusing on insane ideologies like “Armageddon” transforms hazardous theories and toxic beliefs into self-fulfilling prophecies. It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Fear, anger, and hatred are potent catalysts for apocalyptic thinking. Vengeance is not a solution to violence. Just watch the nightly news or Jerry Springer for live action.

A spiritually corrupt society worships idols from amateur hours and applauds scripted survivors. Masses of meek minds are mesmerized by meaningless media. Captivated by courtroom melodramas, viewers become critical and judgmental of the pettiest behaviors. Cunning narcissists, warped exhibitionists, and religious perverts expose their sleaziest selves to a desperate and depraved public. A culture of winners and losers has become a world of haves and have-nots.

Dick as DopeyOur planet and collective psyche are immune deficient. We preach love and sympathy and practice hate and fear. Our appallingly apparent apathy produces pandemic pathological paradigms. We fixate on sex, violence, disease, and death, while shortsightedness, greed, and fear rule our personal and collective unconsciousness.

Donald TrumpWe’re fascinated by fake vampires, werewolves, and zombies while real vampires, werewolves, and zombies thrive virtuelessly among us. We vote for political prostitutes, prostrate ourselves before self-appointed emperors, and worship megalomaniacs on gilded pedestals. We reward religious rapists who pay for their offenses with an eternity in hell. We need a megadose of sanity, but how can anyone be sane in an insane world?

who fartedWake up and whiff the weirdness. How sane is consuming massive amounts of highly toxic chemicals every day in our wars with insects, rodents, weeds, dirt, stains, odors, germs, bacteria, viruses and other invisible enemies? We’re marinating in the chemicals that heat and cool us; power our transportation; provide us with products; color, flavor, and preserve our foods; and enable us to communicate on a grand scale. We breathe, drink, wash, and apply risky substances to our scalps, mouths, armpits, fingers, toes, and crotches. Why must everything be bright white, squeaky clean and lemon fresh? Why do fossil guzzling polluting cars go twice as fast as our highest speed limits?

Mission Accomlished

Mission Accomplished?

Evil acts are symptoms, not causes. As we examine our thoughts objectively, we see action comes from thinking. Why do so few herd so many and harvest so much? Why do so many people secretly believe they’re better than others? Why do we harm cultures we’re supposed to be helping? Why do we trade prejudiced politicians for terrible tyrants?

Sitting on compacted cansWhen my daughter Cassie was two, I was ‘Guru of Garbage’. I taught ‘Designing with Garbage’ classes at Parsons School of Design, and co-taught Environmental Design classes at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. I was on NYC’s Solid Waste Advisory Board and spoke at design schools, community boards, and National Design Museum about recycling, reusing, and recreating materials from the waste stream. My work was exhibited in eco-tours and museums around the world.

As Cassie and I walked down the street, she’d pick up trash, “Here daddy”. Graciously, I’d thank her and deposit it in the nearest trashcan. When others noticed, they’d stoop to pick something up and turn to smile at us as they dropped it in the can. We felt proud.

George W BushJoanna and I were concerned that Cassie worried too much about the planet for a kid. Many of her friends were also tormenting themselves about their future. In fifth grade, Cassie took matters into her hands and wrote a letter to the editor of an East Village newspaper. Her ‘Earth School’ fifth grade class wrote to George W Bush.  At the end of their concerns they wrote, “Please don’t send us a signed picture of your head”. I altered the image to reveal the true nature of the beast.

Dear Editor,

I’m a 5th grader at the earth school in the east village of Manhattan. A lot has been happening in the world and this is a paragraph to explain my point of view. I wrote it at home this afternoon and it is unedited and done completely by myself. I was wondering if you would be interested in publishing it in your newspaper.    Sincerely, Cassie Seltman

We are deeply worrying about Saddam’s toxic and chemical weapons but what we are not realizing is that we are using just if not more as dangerous toxicants in our everyday life.  Eventually at the rate we are going and the life style we are living we will kill ourselves off.  The only difference with Saddam’s weapons is it will happen faster.  Really all it takes to turn the world evil is one bad mind.  We can easily find excuses to do certain uncalled for horrible things.  What we need to do is think positive and constructive for our own benefit.  We have to also be cautious about who we elect for president because that one bad mind could be his and make all the difference.  We are being so concerned with Saddam Hussein but you should think about it like Saddam Hussein is one ant in a whole anthill.  The only reason ants survive is because they work as a team to carry food and build that huge hill.  Even without war we are still heading towards a bad future.  If we continue to pollute our earth we are going to have nothing left.  If we get good ideas and stop polluting right now we will still have a chance to save our earth and the people on it.

The EmperorThe emperor weaves a wardrobe of secrecy and deceit. Our good health and the health of our planet depend on our ability to share healthy thoughts and loving feelings. We must shift our broken philosophical and spiritual paradigms so that we can live and thrive in a healthier world. We can no longer substitute money for values, religion for spirituality, or collective delusion for reality. When you’re ready to meet the Messiah, you must look in the mirror.

Authors note: Today’s moon is in Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter. At 12:58 pm, Jupiter will become direct in Leo. Since Jupiter rules publishing, I’ll click ‘Publish’ at that moment. Jupiter also rules publicity and promotion. I’ll promote my artwork using social media.

If you enjoyed this rant, you’ll love my next writing project. ‘How I Lost My Sanity’ is a story about hands and a tale of how I tempted fate and lost my way. Sign up for all seven episodes. They won’t automatically appear in your news feed if you don’t.

Aries Search for Self

Aries

“Millionaires don’t consult the stars, billionaires do.”  J.P. Morgan

J.P. Morgan

John Pierpont Morgan, Sun, Venus, and Pluto in Aries (April 17 1837) formed the banking house of Drexel Morgan & Co., later renamed J.P. Morgan & Co. His father, Junius Spencer Morgan was the powerful financier who loaned $50-million to France during the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71). Aries rules Iron. After purchasing Andrew Carnegie’s steel operation for $400 million, J.P. waved his Magical Martian Wand over raw materials, manufacturing, mass transit, and banking. J.P. was a plutocrat in power.

AladdinYou don’t have to have an Aries sun to be an Aries type. All intuitive types have rectangular palms and short fingers. Aries types have pink puffy bumps bulging where the thumb meets the hand. Their well-developed percussions (under pinkie) and firm consistent elastic skin, quickly returns to normal when pushed or pulled. Pink skin color energizes. Red pressurizes. Warrior hands are redder. Aries head and life lines separate at their beginning. Wider gaps between head and heart lines represent more independent, freedom loving, and rebellious individuals. When the head and life lines are intertwined, there’s much more inertia. The hand pictured belongs to a real life Aladdin. Click here for his story.

feeling for consistency and elasticity

Aries are the most courageous and adventurous of all types. They’re natural heroes and inspired risk takers. Their passion is contagious and optimism eternal. They never run out of doors to knock on because they don’t take rejection personally. They’re ready and willing to compete with anyone at any time and place. These autonomous freedom lovers detest bureaucrats and hate criticism. Very low set thumbs were meant to quest for holy grails and champion underdogs. They crusade relentlessly until their objectives are realized. Rising to worthy causes brings a lot of personal satisfaction and fulfillment.

Aries is not a detail person. As an Intuitive type, he’s conceptual. When he gets bogged down in mundane tasks like paperwork or bookkeeping, he gets bored and restless. He’s easily frustrated, so it’s best to stay out of his way if you can’t help him. His most important challenges are being patient, trusting his intuition, setting sensible goals, and building sound structures on solid foundations. Mars rules executives, military leaders, soldiers, policemen, firemen, salesmen, surgeons, barbers, and butchers. He’s a potent archetype if you work with sharp tools and / or are unafraid of blood.

Aries symbol
marsEveryone has Aries in his or her symbolism. Aries is Greek. Ares rules Aries as it rises at the birth of spring. Mars is his Roman version. As an invincible warrior and lusty lover, the Roman god of war is symbolized by an erect penis. Built to match, he has a strong athletic body, dominant chest, and rock hard head. He isn’t called ram for nothing. Joanna, my life partner, is Aries with Venus in Taurus rising. I call her ‘RamBull’. I’m a Gemini. She calls me ‘a piece of work in progress’.

Aries types have amazing resilience and an innate ability to bounce back, always landing on their feet. Their strong sense of inner strength, courage, and persistence make them formidable foes. Aries most important job in most of us is to conquer our procrastination, overcome our inertia, and help us take action. Aries potential physical problems include inflammations, fevers, headaches, and high blood pressure.

Xena and Mulan are anima with dominant animus. Aries types are descendants of heroes like King Theseus of Athens, Jason and the Argonauts, Joan of Arc, Robin Hood, and their popular eastern cousin, Aladdin, orphaned son of the king of thieves, handsome adolescent street rat, a diamond in the rough, destined to become a prince.

Al GoreAl Gore is an Aries. His rectangular palms and short fingers reveal a link between his persuasive personality and his Aries Sun. Al’s Mars, Saturn, and Pluto are in Leo. He has abundant inspiration and plenty of motivation to transform energy and politics. When charged with a bolt of lightning from his Jupiter in Sagittarius, he can sell just about anything. Aries and Mars rule Energy and War. Sagittarius and Jupiter rule Publicity, Publishing and Politics. Billions of individuals are manipulated and controlled by energy, war, and politics.

Al Gore’s rectangular hand shape, short fingers, and long index finger revitalize his ambition and egocentricity. As a modern version of Jason and the Golden Fleece, Al and his Argonauts bagged the coveted Nobel Peace Prize while opening masses of minds to the hazards of Global Warming. As a conceptual thinker, Al loves the idea part of his process best. His strength is in his ability to see the big picture. He has no time for details because he has no aptitude or patience for them. Al needs to pour his inspiration and passion into the essence of his reasoning. Once he knows what he must do, Al will acquire the facts to make the case for his cause. As a man of great influence and privilege, Al must sagely survey his personal footprint and practice what he preaches.

Colin PowellU.S. ex-Secretary of State, ex-General Colin Powell is a pure Aries with Sun and Mercury in Aries (April 5, 1937). His rectangular palms, short fingers, and widely separated life and headline are the embodiment of King Theseus of Athens. Theseus escorted Jason on his quest for the Golden Fleece. He defeated the dreaded Minotaur (Saddam Hussein, a Taurus) and united the warring Greek factions under his rule. Secretary Powell’s commanding personality persuaded Americans to keep the faith while we invaded Iraq. He believed he could make a real difference, but ended up being goldenly fleeced by the Bush administration. As the Emperor pulled the wool over our eyes, he proudly wore Colin Powell’s noble charisma, flawless credibility, and ethical principles on the front lines of international diplomacy. Colin Powell’s largest battles are yet to come as he approaches the end of his life and wages war between his personal loyalties and his honesty, integrity, and dignity. A true hero, he must cleanse his legacy by shining the blinding light of absolute truth on the many shades of gray in his life.

Kitty BrazeltonKitty Brazelton is a Libra, artist, composer, and professor of music at Bennington College. Her students and colleagues love and admire her. Dominant air and fire make Kitty smart, resilient, and feisty. She’s mother of and friend to a unique and charismatic 23 year old named Rosie.

Here are a few comments from Kitty’s peers that fit her Aries personality like a glove.

Kitty’s a mover and a shaker in the downtown scene; a singer, bandleader, and composer of striking originality.”  Experimental music icon John Zorn

“Few composers are as uninhibited at saying exactly what they want to say.”  Gramaphone

“There are few musical styles and genres she hasn’t absorbed or embraced. You might wonder how someone’s musical appetite can be quite so voracious, but the results are anarchic, wacky, and hard to resist.” WIRE MAGAZINE

One very important lesson Mars must learn is that enthusiasm and positive energy won’t make the impossible possible. Kitty chose a creative and very practical life partner. Too bad he was contradictory, had chronic control issues, and wielded his critical nature like a Samurai swordsman. They fought and shared a lot of art and music while raising a highly imaginative kid for eighteen years. Low set curved pinkies reveal how she lasted so long. She won the occasional battle, but always lost the war because she had a compulsive need to make the peace. She pretended her marriage was better than it was by compartmentalizing, analyzing, and rationalizing her feelings and fantasy.

Ancient warrior cultures ritually practiced their lustiest mating rituals from late June to late July to seed future generations of Aries warriors. Aries rules Germany, England, and Japan. Hitler planned an Aryan race. The English expanded their influence by barbarizing and colonizing the globe. Japan was atom bombed during World War II. Japan’s warriors fight battles in commerce, communications, transportation, and electronics. Mars rules raw physical energy, sports, law enforcement, and military.

Largest of energy giants, XX is an Aries with its first trade March 25 1920. A predatory power broker must shift its greedy paradigms and embrace philosophical and spiritual transformation. Our earth’s creative juices were meant to be shared by all. Mom’s blood has enabled us to achieve a very high standard of living by heating our homes, fueling our transportation, and providing us with products that make our lives easier. Unseen lakes and ponds of mom’s magical elixir are plundered from their holy sanctuaries, then wasted in disposable plastic packaging and squandered in gas guzzling vehicles. Why must hundreds of horses gallop under our hoods?

XX sells mom’s alchemy to us while efficiently and profitably pumping it from her natural reservoirs into pipelines and artificial tanks that lead to our financial umbilical cords and personal containers. Our world economy and planetary good health are at stake. XX must be guardian for, not sole owner of mom’s soul. XX must not become XXX.

Our energy needs require prompt consciousness and conscience. The Arab oil embargo of 1973 was supposed to teach us not to take Mom’s precious essences for granted. We must learn to devalue our vanity, curb our wasteful habits, and embrace a sustainable energy conserving culture. From jumbo jets to disposable plastic bags, oil has lubricated our needs and desires and greased the psyches of promoters and politicians who pollute our political process by providing plutocrats with permission to plunder our planet wherever, whenever, however, and forever.

It’s no surprise our most important priority is to protect energy sources. Military is our most voracious energy vampire. Bloody wars are waged and financial fortunes flourish because plutocrats are our real leaders. Their greed and wars torture our souls and the soul of our planet. They guzzle our vital essences as they suck our blood and the blood of our fathers, brothers, and children.

Uranus changes sign every seven years. In Aries, Uranus brought fierce individualism, pioneering spirit, abundant energy, and limitless financial resources to bring concepts to fruition. It was the only outer planet to transit the sign of Aries in the twentieth century (1927 – 1935). Uranus invigorated the collective psyche through revolutionary and technological changes. Here are my favorite picks from the last Uranus in Aries era.

Physics and astronomy created the “Big Bang” theory of an ever-expanding universe.

The Neutron was discovered.

King Kullen was the first supermarket (opened in Queens) in New York.

Wonder Bread and homogenized milk were introduced.

The first Laundromat opened in Fort Worth Texas.

The flashbulb was invented and marketed.

The 3M Company introduced transparent Scotch Tape.

Nylon fiber was created.

The first plastics were synthesized in Britain.

Bell Laboratories developed stereophonic sound.

A German ophthalmologist pioneered the first contact lens.

The first drive-in movie theatre opened in New Jersey.

The model A replaced the model T Ford.

The first air-conditioned office building in the US opened in San Antonio Texas.

The jet engine was patented.

Charles Lindbergh made the first solo flight from New York to Paris.

America was captivated when Lindbergh’s 20-month-old son was kidnapped.

Mao Tse-Tung began his `22 years in the wilderness’ where he developed guerrilla warfare tactics that ultimately conquered China.

Leon Trotsky was expelled from the communist party.

The federal government entered the field of hydroelectric power with Boulder Dam.

The first all talking motion picture, The Jazz Singer, starring Al Jolson, revolutionized the film industry. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was born.

The stock market crashed, forcing people to re-examine their values and institutions.

Uranus completed its eighty-four year cycle in the spring of 2011 as it turbulently returned to Aries to crumble regimes, topple demagogues, ignite cities, and fuel the Arab Spring that spread across the Mid-East. Devastating earthquakes in Japan forever changed how governments look at nuclear power policies. Protestors in Spain set the stage for Occupy Movements in New York and London. Osama Bin Laden was killed. His sighting appeared on Twitter before it was officially announced by the Whitehouse. WikiLeaks raised our consciousness of government secrets and conspiracies.

Mars is the blood, guts, and gore of war where psyches are devoured by passion, lust, and hatred. Uranus and Mars is an explosive combination. Combined with the darkness of Saturn and Pluto, that’s a prescription for MPTSD (mass post-traumatic stress disorder). The “Big Bang” theory has come a long way since the first Neutron was discovered. We must see where supermarkets, laundromats, homogenized milk, Wonder Bread, Scotch tape, plastics, and the Model T have gotten us.

Here’s an Arian idea of how to better manage partisan political corruption and war.

The vernal equinox is a great day for political hand-to-hand combat on “Reality TV”. Partisan Congressmen, Senators, and Governors will be issued clubs and knives. Bipartisan candidates are exempt. Terminators welcome. “Hasta la vista baby”

CAPRICORN – Responsibility and Purpose and your Middle Finger

Capricorn - Responsibility and Purpose

CAPRICORN

RESPONSIBILITY & PURPOSE

DECEMBER 21 – JANUARY 20

“If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.”

                                                                                                       Martin Luther King Jr.

Jesus ChristThe most famous Capricorn of all time was Jesus Christ. Jesus was a Jewish self-help guru and not for profit Prophet who may have eventually reformed the business of religion had he stuck around. Who needs codes, dogmas, and doctrines when they have spirituality? Jesus shared God’s essence as he spoke the words “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). Jesus was crucified for loving too much.

Martin Luther KingDr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1/15/1929 – 4/4/1968), another lover, was martyred for his fervent beliefs. As a Baptist Minister and passionate Social Rights Activist, Dr. King led the black civil rights movement in the United States from the mid 1950’s until his assassination in 1968. His mission was the pursuit of truth, peace, justice, and equality for all. Martin Luther King’s dream has become our holiday.

Mel GibsonMel Gibson, a Capricorn, irreverently and irresponsibly reveals the dark side of love. Jesus writhes in Heaven as Mel warps his essence and continues to punish us for our sinful ways. Perhaps Mel will capitalize on Dr. King’s final moments and make another movie that he can call LETHAL WEAPON 666.  Even more excuses for him to perpetuate shame, guilt, fear, hate, and justify ongoing torment, torture, and terror. Mel would be less harmful to humanity as a Hummer salesman. He could sell ‘already been road-warriored’ models, like worn jeans or distressed furniture.

Dominant Saturn fingerDominant Saturn types have dominant middle fingers. Your middle finger should always be longest no matter what your archetype. A short middle finger is a life out of balance. Your middle finger embodies your need for and ability to embrace structure, focus, discipline, and responsibility. It shows how serious and reliable a person you are and how you cope with restrictions, obstructions, obligations, and guilt. Dominant middle-fingered people are organized, efficient, patient, dependable, and faithful individuals. A stiff bent Saturn finger along with a long middle phalanx, knotty joints, square fingertips, and short broad nails symbolizes obsessive order, method, and punctuality. Saturnians become guilty, pessimistic, fearful, easily frustrated, depressed, and vindictive when things don’t go well. Most self-critical of all archetypes, they habitually must relearn how to “lighten up and smell the roses”. Traditional music and dry humor sometimes helps.

Saturnians are the most serious and responsible of all types. The firm consistency of their hands, resilient elasticity of their skin, flat square palms, short stiff squarish fingers and fingertips, and dominant middle fingers with dominant first and middle phalanges make them a different kind of Initiator than Aries, Cancer, or Libra types. Their every thought and action must have a purpose. They make great business leaders and managers who embrace responsibility with energy and enthusiasm. As they carry out the specifics of their everyday business, they also maintain a long-range vision of their final goal. As structured, focused, disciplined, and dependable individuals, they expect you to be on time and do as you say. They have little patience for excuses. As natural skeptics, they don’t trust slick and flashy types. As workaholics, they don’t think twice about coming in early or staying late when a task needs to be finished. Despite their powerful ambitions, they patiently bide their time until the proper conditions present themselves.

Practical, prudent, and persistent, Saturnians are easily frustrated and aggravated when their strategies don’t go according to plan. Their overdeveloped sense of responsibility and obligation frequently causes them to feel guilt and shame. Many have a cynical, sarcastic, or fatalistic sense of humor rooted in a pessimism that they’d much prefer to hide. They can be extremely defensive or offensive when they become depressed. Pure Saturnian types rarely stray from provincial, traditional, or conventional ways.

HermitIn ancient Greece, Capricorn was ruled by Chronos, Saturn in Roman Myth and Western Astrology. “Father Time” is present wherever structure, discipline, and focus are required. He’s a strategic planner. At best, he’s healthy, happy, wise, prosperous, and caring. At worst, he’s frustrated, controlling, depressed, greedy, and self-destructive.

Abraham Lincoln

Capricorns want to be number one. Muhammad Ali was King of Boxing. Elvis Presley was King of Rock ‘n Roll. Tiger Woods was Prince of Golf. Humanitarianism and Medicine produced Albert Schweitzer and Louis Pasteur. David Bowie and Rod Stewart are Capricornian musical prodigies. Daniel Day-Lewis (Taurus with strong Saturn) was cast as Abraham Lincoln, a pure type. Clint Eastwood is a Gemini with dominant middle fingers. Paul Cezanne and Henri Matisse were French artists who were ruled by Saturn.

ScroogeScrooge is the epitome of Saturnian stinginess because he chooses greed and materialism over caring and generosity. Relationships are only important as they relate to profit. Master criminals ruled by Saturn never depend on cleverness or spontaneity like Aries, Gemini, and Sagittarian types. Saturnians carefully strategize every move and bide their time.

Bernie EbbersGhosts of Christmas past, present, and future will haunt Bernard Ebbers for eternity. As former CEO of WorldCom, Ebbers hugely contributed to society by making telecommunications competitive. Too bad he compromised principles he once valued in order to reach his goal of power and worldly achievement. Bernie played both sides against the middle and got caught in the squeeze.

Donald RumsfeldDominant middle-fingered people tend to be tall, slender, and angular in appearance. They often have dark hair, large bones, stern features, and bland complexions. They’re loners; distant and needing private time, even when married. Their prevailing physical sense is smell. Many love string instruments and prefer classical music with a tinge of sadness. They may eventually have physical problems with teeth, knees, ligaments, rheumatism, hardening of the arteries, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, and deafness in the left ear. When a middle finger leans toward the ring finger you have an individual with a strong need for privacy and personal space. I guarantee that when Donald Rumsfeld feels confined or controlled, he becomes cranky and irritable. You can see it in his face.

A majority of scientists, technical individuals, conservative businessmen, researchers, writers, craftsmen, therapists, night watchman, undertakers, morticians, and derelicts have dominant middle fingers. They have manifested their strong Saturn differently.

Janet - CapricornJanet is a pragmatist with crooked middle fingers and separated head and lifeline on her dominant hand. This combination of features makes her a very independent freedom loving perfectionist with an overly developed sense of responsibility, obligation, and guilt. There’s always a ‘should or supposed to’ in the way of that adventure she wishes she was having. Janet is a high-powered corporate consultant in the publishing industry.

NeptuneHistorically, during the late twentieth century, the planets Uranus and Neptune transited the sign of Capricorn. When Uranus transited Capricorn from 1989 to 1996, political institutions and structures were revolutionized. The Iron Curtain and Berlin Wall were ripped down. On October 3, 1990, Germany was reunited as the political demarcation between East and West vanished. The Soviet Union disintegrated into fifteen republics in December of 1991. The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibited discrimination against the disabled.

VoyagerUranus also brought us the Voyager space probe that successfully explored the outer limits of our solar system. Nelson Mandela was released after 27 years behind bars and successfully galvanized the Anti-Apartheid movement around the globe. Jean Bertrand Aristide, a radical priest, became Haiti’s first freely elected president. Ten months after his election, the military seized control of the government. After Asylum in the USA, Aristide returned to office in 1994, accompanied by 20,000 American troops. Operation Desert Storm liberated Kuwait from the Iraqi invaders. Bosnia declared their independence from Yugoslavia that resulted in a religious civil war pitting Serbs and Croats against Muslims. At the end of Uranus’s transit, the US and theJohnny Carson UN brokered a prickly cease-fire and hopefully ended ethnic cleansing. Representatives from over 100 countries met in Rio de Janeiro in June of 1992 to discuss how to better preserve the earth. Their good intentions haven’t worked. Johnny Carson retired after 30 years of hosting The Tonite Show on NBC TV.

Arafat and RabinExpect the unexpected with Uranus. PLO leader Yassar Arafat shook hands with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in an effort to end hatred. The Irish Republican Army agreed to lay down its arms in exchange for a role in Northern Ireland’s political future. The Brady Bill concerning gun control was signed into law thirteen years after Brady was shot and paralyzed. The NRA is more powerful than ever. Smoking was banned in New York City restaurants. Women began smoking cigars.

ChernobylWhen the planet Neptune transited the sign of Capricorn from 1984 -1998, lines between chemical industries and moral responsibilities dissolved. A gas leak at a Union Carbide plant in India killed over 3,000 people. British scientists pinpointed a hole in the earth’s ozone layer. Two years later in 1987, after seeing the hand writing on the wall, fifty-three nations signed a treaty pledging to reduce the number of CFCs in the atmosphere. This also hasn’t worked. The most serious nuclear accident in history occurred at Chernobyl. Thirty-one people died instantly and another 40,000 were diagnosed with cancer from exposure to radiation. The wreck of the Exxon Valdez was the worst oil spill in history, contaminating hundreds of miles of Alaska shoreline and killing many thousands of creatures.

Hey Monsanto

Strong Middle Finger

Monsanto, creator of Agent Orange, PCBs, DDT, and Dioxins, launched their first “Round-up Ready” GMO soybean, which was approved by the FDA in 1994. “Frankenfood” became the focus of environmental activists and comedians on late night TV. Mad Cow disease mysteriously appeared in the UK in 1996. The slim line between science and science fiction was crossed when the first sheep was cloned in Scotland in 1997. The FDA approved a drug called AZT, designed to treat AIDS. In 1997 and 1998, El Nino was attributed to bizarre bad weather conditions.

Bill CosbyCapricorn transformed the image of fatherhood. Bill Cosby was the most popular father figure in 1984. Saturn was in Scorpio. Bill must not have been practicing what he was preaching or Saturn would not have punished him when he returned to Scorpio in 2014. Racial bigots Archie Bunker and Homer Simpson became two of the most popular fathers of all time. ‘Married with Children’ gave us a completely different view of fatherhood. Disney produced the popular father and son story, ‘The Lion King’. Murphy Brown revealed her animus to the world. General Electric purchased media giants NBC and RCA.

In the world of big business, Ivan Boesky preached virtuosity and honesty and then got busted for insider trading. A frenzy of mergers, acquisitions, and takeovers in the ‘80s destabilized financial institutions. When the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) collapsed, regulators from 69 countries seized their assets and charged that officers had been hiding substantial losses from investors. The guys at the top got away with it. History repeats itself. Congress closed the House of Representatives Bank in the wake of scandal in 1992.

Ronald ReaganNeptune also dissolved political structures. Gorbachev reformed controls that kept the Soviet Union together. Growing concern over the federal deficit catalyzed the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Act as the Reagan deficit soared to 2 trillion dollars (2X 1981). On Black Monday, the stock market suffered a mini-crash with a huge drop in stock prices. Texaco filed the largest bankruptcy in history.

Follow the moneyPluto entered Capricorn in 2009. Ninety-nine percent of people began to become aware of the power of the other one percent. The beginning of the end of Plutocracy, faulty financial foundations, and deceptive business practices was born and still has a very long way to go. Commerce, politics, and religion will transform as greed, corruption, and shadowy secrets are exposed on top levels of business, government, and religion.

GoogleNostradamus was a Capricorn. We’re still interpreting his astrological predictions. Here is my generalized and fairly obvious ‘whether forecast’ for Pluto in Capricorn. The NY Stock Exchange, born May 17 1792 under the sign of Taurus will be upset as the bubble created by the illusion of social security bursts. Prepare for widely fluctuating interest rates and inflation. Broken systems will be scrutinized and reformed. Cyber-Terrorism will reach into everyone’s computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices. New and revolutionary ways of managing energy and environment will be implemented on a larger scale. Recycling and reuse will become more practical and cost effective. More women will come into positions of greater power. The Federal Reserve Bank, born in Capricorn (12/23/1913), will experience major upheaval. It was designed as a way of keeping the mega-rich from controlling all the wealth by forcing banks to keep a certain percentage of their assets in the Federal Reserve. The private money of Plutocrats currently owns the majority of votes in Congress and the Senate.

Declaration of IndependenceMost astrologers agree that the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4 1776. That places the U.S. Sun, Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury in the sign of Cancer. As Pluto opposes these planets and we try harder to control everyone and everything, we will have greater difficulty maintaining control of our status as an economic power and world leader. There’s dispute among astrologers as to whether the USA horoscope has Gemini or Sagittarius rising. Either way, we’ll continue to be short sighted and to behave immaturely like spoiled little children. NYC’s charter was signed on January 1 1898 at 12:01 am. As Pluto conjuncted NYC’s Sun in Capricorn in 2013, it inaugurated chaos on both physical and financial infrastructures, public transportation, and corruption. Expect more chaos, along with more hurricanes and other natural anomalies. The Constitution of the USSR (12/21/1922) has Capricorn rising. Anticipate more political and economic upheaval as Pluto transits its first house. Where does responsibility begin and accountability end?  We’ll come to know and understand why the bottom line can no longer justify the means before Pluto exits Capricorn.

Here’s a blog post describing my scary hand reading session with a Saturnian client.

Tale of how Mercury Exorcised Pluto, his Evil Twin

Exorcising the Evil Twin

The gods and goddesses of western myth were created in the ideals of ancient Greece. Too bad they abused their morals, ethics, nobility, and power. As greedy, narcissistic, and incestuous gods, they tempted fate and influenced human destiny forever. Those same gods and their dysfunctional families are in the here and now, incarnate as us with new names, scripts, roles, sets, and relationships. Nothing else has changed.

Pluto is death. He’s the last stop on the train to never ending nothingness. The shit doesn’t stop until it gets to Pluto where it gathers for all eternity. Imagine the stench.  Ravenous vampires mercilessly await us along the banks of the River Styx, anxious to suck our souls. The myth of Pluto tells us that he got tired of hanging out with corpses and decided to reward himself with a tasty perk from the world of the living. Persephone was the tastiest perk of all. She’s the feminine side of Pluto. The well-guarded daughter of Demeter, earth goddess, was sniffing a narcissus in a meadow one day when Pluto (the ultimate narcissist) erupted from the earth in his chariot and abducted her to be his High Priestess and Queen of the Underworld.

Persephone was off limits. In desperation and panic, Demeter pleaded with her brothers and sisters for help. Unfortunately, no one dared take initiative because they all feared Pluto. Demeter took matters into her own hands and killed all vegetation on the earth. That’s how we got winter. The gods began to worry. If we perished, who’d worship them? They went to bat for mankind, intervened, and negotiated a compromise between Pluto and Demeter. Persephone spends spring and summer with her mom and winters with Pluto as his Queen of the underworld and High Priestess of the unconsciousness.

Venus was married to Vulcan (Hephaestus), lame god of the forge in mythology. Beauty wedded Craftsmanship. Vulcan got his muse, however, Venus needed a lot more than craft. She craved sensual and sexual satisfaction, resulting in casual flings with Mars, Mercury, and her other brothers who fathered many different children with her. Mars and Venus produced Phobos (fear) and Deimos (terror), the twins who served Mars in battle. Their daughter, Harmonia, and son, Cupid (Eros) served Venus. Hermes (Mercury) and Aphrodite (Venus) conceived Hermaphrodite, androgyny of hetero-bi-homo-sexuality.

In this particular story, Mercury and Venus were happily married. Mercury needed a lot of intellectual stimulation, along with emotional and physical freedom. Venus had no problem giving that to him. Venus required emotional stability, consistency, reliability, affection, and sensual pleasure. Mercury gratefully embraced his responsibilities.

Venus and Persephone met through a mutual friend. They bonded as soon as they found out that they shared a passion for the arts, beauty, and nature. Venus, the muse in music, was goddess of fine art. Enchanting and quixotic, Persephone was an extraordinary artist. They decided to collaborate on an art project together. Persephone and Pluto offered Venus a full scholarship for a summer residency at their country home.

Persephone embodies the hypnotic power of the personal and collective unconscious. Plutonian types have mesmeric personalities and healing powers. It’s easy to feel special when you’re with them. They can bring out the best and worst in each of us. Helen of Troy (Persephone) was so charismatic; men fell hopelessly in love with her. The Trojan War occurred when young Paris wrongly chose Venus in a goddess beauty contest and as a result, fell foolishly in love with Helen, Queen to King Menelaus.

Pluto and Persephone were Scorpios. Pluto had Sun and Moon in Scorpio and Leo rising. That’s a recipe for double trouble with a heaping helping of the melodramatic. Persephone was making art all over the world when she and Pluto first met. Many princes had wooed Persephone, but all turned out to be frogs or beasts. Desperately, she craved true love, but Persephone was still as emotionally innocent as Little Red Riding Hood who met the Wolf (Pluto) in the forest on her way to Grandma’s house.

Persephone had a long graceful heart line ending under her index finger. She saw people and circumstances as she wanted them to be. Pluto, Emperor of Darkness, presented himself as the Prince of Lightness. He was physically strong, intelligent, handsome, expressive, funny, adventurous, and a talented craftsman. Pluto beguiled Persephone with caring words and loving actions. He treated her like a real goddess and fulfilled her soul mate fantasy. Persephone’s lust for love literally attracted the man from Hell.

Pluto and Persephone had a waterfront estate on the outer banks of the River Styx, far from Mount Olympus where Mercury and Venus had grown up. Mercury and Pluto were instantly compatible. In myth, Mercury had escorted departed souls to Death’s door and couriered messages from Mount Olympus to the underworld. Mercury had planned to spend the summer by himself, but Venus pleaded. “These people are incredible. You won’t believe this place and community. I’ve met a couple who you’re going to love. You must come”. Community had been an occasional weekend barbecue with the locals for Mercury. Venus described Pluto and Persephone in flowery superlatives. “Sounds too good to be true” Mercury responded. It was and took over fifteen years and a series of very painful character building experiences for absolutely everyone to unveil that truth.

Mercury changed his plans after Venus’s call. He spent his summer with her. Maybe she was right. People were warm and friendly. Strangers waved when they drove by. Pluto was one of the kindest people Mercury had ever met. His words were thoughtful and his actions generous. Mercury thought Persephone was Pollyanna. Warts were beauty marks to her. She saw the best in everyone. Mercury put his skepticism and sarcasm on a back burner when she was around. She softened him. Who was he to be cynical while she was embracing the best? Mercury grew to adore Persephone. Pluto and Persephone were surrounded by fascinating friends and loving families. Mercury and Venus began to wonder if maybe they had found their Shangri-La.

Mercury rules hands and palmistry (with Chiron). Mercury had known Pluto for a while before Pluto asked him to look at his hands (most people want that as soon as they find out you read hands). Pluto’s large rectangular palms, long stiff fingers, and tightly tied head and lifeline confirmed he had a Scorpion personality. Like Manuel (the child serial killer), Pluto’s ball of the thumb (Venus) had no lines parallel to his lifeline. His heart line dipped to touch the beginning of his head and life lines.

Mercury felt confused. A large ball of the thumb person can fool even the best judge of character with feigned warmth and generosity, but not Mercury. He asked Pluto if he was challenged by intimacy and by verbalizing his true feelings. Pluto replied that he had no idea what Mercury was talking about. Everyone knew he was a loving person and caring community member. Mercury decided that Pluto must have risen above his challenges and his intimate relationships would eventually show up in his hands. They never did. Mercury continued to ignore Pluto’s other ambiguities and incongruities.

Pluto was a hugger.  Mercury was androgynous, but Mercury wasn’t comfortable with so much physical affection so soon. It didn’t take long for Pluto to catch on to Mercury’s uneasiness. His mission became to hug and kiss Mercury regularly and turn this “Man of Steel” into “Organic Man”. He was successful. Pluto helped Mercury become a more trusting person as he passionately cultivated his friendship. Holding Mercury squarely by the shoulders, Pluto would gaze straight into Mercury’s eyes and say, “You’re the greatest”  “I love you sooooooooooooooooooo much”  “I can talk with you about things that I can’t say to anyone else”.  Sometimes they laughed so hard that they cried.

Mercury loved Pluto like a real brother. He would have freely given him anything. He and Venus cherished Pluto’s friendship. Pluto, however, methodically exploited their love and trust as he covertly plotted their individual seductions and betrayals. Pluto prepared Mercury and Venus, like virgins, to be spiritually raped on the altar of hell.

The twisted handwriting was always on the wall. Pluto recited poetry from his journal for Mercury and Venus. His delivery was dramatic, but his content seemed contrived and cliché. He wrote for the reader, not for the writer. Mercury and Venus were reticent to criticize Pluto’s art. It somehow made him even more lovable. They giggled as they recited corny poetry when he left; not realizing their friendship was also bad poetry.

Pluto asked Mercury to spread his tarot cards. Concerns of gossip, betrayal, and painful endings would arise. Mercury interpreted them hopefully. It never occurred to him to put himself and his family in that picture. Mercury looked at Pluto’s hands many times over the years and always blocked the truth. Why shouldn’t he trust Pluto? Pluto had certainly made them feel lovable and they were positive that Pluto loved them.

Pluto would show up with huge dark circles under his eyes. In hindsight, they were polluted pools of deceit reflected in a murky swamp. Terrified of dying, he secretly wished he could, but that wasn’t an option. Mercury and Venus comforted Pluto. In a moment of weakness, Pluto blurted “One day you’ll hate me and turn against me”. Mercury and Venus recited in chorus, “You’re crazy”. Turned out everyone was right.

When Pluto’s indiscretions first surfaced, Mercury and Venus rationalized his behavior.   Everyone makes mistakes they thought. They figured that by successfully seducing his best friend’s life partner, Pluto had unconsciously killed off his father and married his mother. Pluto had grown up in a suburb of Metropolis with a very loving, sensitive, and artistic father (a beautiful man) who feared his own shadow. Pluto’s powerful mother (Scorpio) wore the pants in the family. Pluto had climbed every mountain and hiked every trail in search of his manhood but hadn’t found it.

Even when the connections that Pluto and Persephone had worked so hard to create began to unravel and disintegrate, Mercury and Venus were still protecting Pluto. They thought they were ‘special’ and different from everyone else. They were. They had indulged Pluto in his narcissistic fantasies and kept his treacherous secrets from everyone including themselves and each other. There’s a very thin line between perpetrator and victim. Masochists and sadists are co-dependent. Voyeurs and exhibitionists are magnets for one another. Just watch Jerry Springer for live action.

Pluto and Mercury nourished each other’s ‘Pig Dogs’. They drank home brewed beer and ate hot buttered popcorn while they watched porn and fantasized erotic sexploits. Once in a while they’d find a sleezy lounge where they’d watch people lap dancing. While sitting in front of a crackling fire late one night, Pluto turned to Mercury and asked, “Would you mind going upstairs and fucking my wife?” Privately, Pluto had been priming Persephone by saying that Mercury was hot for her, even though he wasn’t. Mercury declined. He loved their polyamorous fantasies, but they were just fantasies. It wasn’t the same for Pluto. Mercury learned that Pluto had actually lusted over, coveted, seduced, or tried to seduce almost every female they’d ever fantasized about including their good friend’s wives. Mercury felt ashamed and remorseful for “his part”. He’d encouraged Pluto’s pathology by indulging in the sick fantasies that turned them both on. He’d have had clearer boundaries had he known the truth about Pluto, and himself.

Hindsight dealt everyone a challenging blow. Mercury realized that he and Venus were just like everyone else when a mutual friend confided to Mercury that Pluto had foolishly bragged about how he had attempted to seduce Venus. Mercury confronted Venus, “Why didn’t you tell me?” Venus told him she didn’t want to hurt their friendship. “It’s been so long since you had a real buddy”. She assured him that she had no intention of indulging in Pluto’s persistent advances. Mercury and Venus had been living in Pluto’s home for the first year and a half of that relationship. Venus had hidden Pluto’s behavior and kept a secret from Mercury for fourteen of the fifteen years they’d known Pluto.

Venus told Mercury about the first time that Pluto attempted to seduce her. Mercury had sworn off physical labor, but he felt compelled to try to help Pluto and his partner save their failing custom furniture making business. They were wonderful craftsmen, but didn’t know how to get paid well for their work. Being a natural salesman, Mercury offered to bring work from Metropolis. When possible, he’d help make, deliver, and install jobs. One day, they were all hard at work in the shop when Pluto exclaimed, “Damn, I forgot something at home (Venus was home alone). I’ll be back soon”.

In hindsight, Mercury remembered Pluto forgetting things a lot. Venus was back at the house taking a bath (in the only bathroom) when Pluto arrived home. He knocked on the door and asked if she could please close the shower curtain. He needed to use the toilet. She said OK. The next thing she knew, Pluto abruptly drew the shower curtain, and stepped confidently and completely naked into the bathtub with a huge smile on his face. “What are you doing?!!!” yelled Venus. Pluto pretended he had been in some kind of trance. His master plan hadn’t worked out yet, but he’d seen what he intended to see and shown what he intended to show.

The whole community became hip to Pluto. One distraught wife told Venus that the usual topic and focus of female get-togethers was, “Who was Pluto hitting on at that moment and how bad was his influence on their husbands?”  Persephone had no clue that Pluto was betraying her mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, every single day of their marriage. She blamed herself for his selfish behavior. Pluto’s inability to truly love her remained his secret. Other wives tried to enlist Persephone into group discussions; however, she declined, maintaining a ‘hands off Pluto’ attitude.

Pluto used every technique in the book to get what he wanted. Flattery worked. Mercury could see how Pluto boosted Venus’s self-esteem. He wanted her to feel queenly and goddess like. His behavior taught Mercury how to be a more passionate and desirable husband. Dishonesty worked too. Pluto would innocently offer to physically “wrestle” female anxieties and frustrations away. That notorious ‘walk in the woods’ was his favorite venue.  He was infamous for saying, “I just want to kiss you”.

Art of Seduction and Betrayal

Once Mercury and Venus stopped protecting Pluto, reluctant females peered cautiously from cloistered closets, confessing that Pluto had seduced or attempted to seduce them. One more irreverent pastor had faked faith and tempted trust. By driving an invisible psychic wedge into his friends’ marriages, Pluto fostered guilt and shame and forced everyone to hold onto their secrets. Pluto’s `beloved’ victims were full of remorse. One tearful woman told Mercury that she had spent nearly twenty years of her marriage feeling guilt, shame, and fear that her husband would eventually find out about her and Pluto.

The last straw for Mercury was when he observed Pluto seducing his good friend’s wife, right under everyone’s noses. She was another Persephone type and artist. Pluto was trading in Persephone 1 for Persephone 2, the sequel. The speediest path into her panties was through her vanity, so he immortalized her artwork. Mercury had confused Shangri-La with Xanadu. Pluto was Citizen Kane, incapable of truly loving while endeavoring to turn his conquest into a star. Pluto urgently wished to love and be loved, but only knew lust. Rosebud was the love he so deeply desired but could never have.

Years prior to Persephone 2’s conquest, a friend told Mercury that he had walked in on Pluto while he was jerking off over pictures of Persephone 2. Persephone 1 was in the next room. Even though Pluto had fantasized about, lusted over, coveted, and carefully plotted the seduction of Persephone 2, he still pretended they “fell in love”. Unless Pluto has actually transformed his severely damaged character, it will be a very sad day in hell for Persephone II when she discovers that her cup is half fool.

Mercury, Venus, Pluto, and Persephone were destined to share a very powerful love experience, followed by a very negative outcome. Trust would forever forward be an issue. Pluto betrayed Mercury, Venus, and Persephone by working so diligently to make them love him while he was unable to truly love them back. He brought out the best and worst in them. If Pluto’s love was real, you’d see the lines in the ball of his thumb. Pluto was in Mercury’s. He stops at a perpendicular cross line, the roadblock where Mercury exorcised his evil twin. Mercury had pondered who, what, and when that might be.

Mercury and Venus chose not to confront Pluto in person because Pluto had no real remorse for his actions. He was in denial, explaining that he was sorry for “his part”. He made himself into a victim and even seduced a female psychotherapist into believing his stories. What Pluto could have used was a no bullshit male therapist who’d help him to see himself through the eyes of the loving beings he had so pathologically deceived.

Hands speak louder than words and actions

Scorpio – Shedding light on darkness

Scorpio

voldemortScorpio is black. In Roman myth, Pluto is god of death, sex, and transformation. Hades is lord of the underworld in Greek myth. The Devil is alive and well in Christian myth. The Death card, Queen of Cups, and High Priestess symbolize Scorpio in Tarot. Voldemort, Darth Vader, Mummy, and the Big Bad Wolf are modern versions.

Pluto inspires rapists and terrorists and seduces priests who sexually abuse the children whose innocent souls they’ve been entrusted to protect. The prospect of an eternity in hell both tempts and terrifies them. A path of too many dark secrets leads to the palace of the sociopath. Pluto rules executioners, coroners, undertakers, and morticians. From our first breath to our final exit, Pluto ruthlessly awaits our arrival with a kiss of death.

Pluto can be controlling, compulsive, manipulative, jealous, possessive, fearful, resentful, obstinate, secretive, suspicious, subtle, and subversive. Pluto also has a bright side that can love without coveting, lusting, seducing, controlling, or possessing another’s soul. Pluto can transform into the Phoenix who rises triumphantly from the ashes. Scorpions have a powerful sense of purpose when they’re not at war within themselves. They can envision their deepest desires and know that they will eventually realize them.

Scorpio is fiercely loyal, but Scorpio’s greatest loyalty is always to himself. It may take a near death experience to awaken the Scorpion to her higher self. I say ‘her’ because Scorpio and Capricorn are feminine signs, even though we always refer to Saturn and Pluto as ‘he’. When ‘he’ and ‘she’ are balanced, Scorpio can be born again and again. Scorpions make excellent researchers, clever problem solvers, sleuthful spies, skillful surgeons, and insightful psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists. Scorpio attracts many of the best and worst mystery, crime, and horror writers.

round self portraitWhen the Sun entered Scorpio on October 23rd (after passing through my Libra 12th house), I began to examine my character flaws and ponder my darkest secrets. I devoured dark music, read dark literature, and watched dark movies for many dark, cold, damp, and dreary days before I began writing this blog entry. Retrograde Mercury (Scorpio / Libra), escorted me to Pluto’s door, mercilessly exposing my sacred lies and starkly reminding me that even the best kept secrets eventually die. As a serious professional palmist, I guard many thousands of secrets. Many people reveal their most intimate secrets to readers because they misguidedly believe that we already know them. I don’t, until they tell them to me.

mark seltman astrological chartFor those interested in astrology, Gemini rules my sun, hands, and resultant behavior. Scorpio rules my unconscious. Scorpio rises in my natal chart along with the asteroid, Chiron (hand). Jupiter in Scorpio is in my first house is a singleton in the bottom hemisphere of my horoscope. Pluto is in my tenth house closely conjunct my Leo midheaven and ninth house Saturn. My Sun Uranus and Venus North Node conjunctions are in Gemini in the 8th house (along with my vertex, asteroids, and outer planets). When Saturn transited my ascendant back in November of 2012, it squared my Midheaven and compelled me to create more structure and discipline in my life. Saturn forced me to focus more on achieving realistic goals and challenged me to let go of everything and everyone that wasn’t working for me.

The hardest part of the whole process and experience for me has been letting go of people who are no longer right or good for me. Even if they’re responsible for my current thinking and actions, I still feel guilty for having to pull away my love and for abandoning and betraying them for reasons that accept no compromise or excuses. Losing faith and trust in someone is the beginning of the end of that relationship for me.

A couple of weeks ago, I let go of a 25 year friendship that I believed was something it wasn’t. Here’s my version of that story. My friend was smart, talented, creative, and funny, and a deeply emotionally wounded person. Frequent late night phone calls often centered on his complaining about or blaming his family, friends, and colleagues for his loneliness, suffering, and struggles. I don’t think he ever took responsibility for his part. I listened for many hours while trying to be empathetic and supportive. So many times, my friend told me how much he loved me and my family and how much he valued our friendship. That felt good. We shared our philosophical and spiritual ideas. I never asked my friend for anything for myself. That became the crux of our impending crisis.

Hand BookMost of you know that I have written a narrative non-fiction palmistry book called ‘Hand Book’. My goal was to help people realize that they don’t have to be palmists to see their relationship, career, health, and other valuable potentials in their hands. Back in April, I sent out 100 reviewer copies to friends and important players in the helping professions. My friend raved about his copy. I told him I was seeking credible reviews. I wanted to be more visible when someone searches for a palmistry book on Amazon. Since that time, Hand Book has gathered more legitimate five star reviews than any palmistry book on Amazon. He asked me if I’d like him to write a review. I said “sure”.

Weeks passed and nothing happened. Honestly, I could care less about his couple of lines on Amazon, but the idea of getting nothing back after giving so much for so long began festering in my mind. This was the first time I had asked my friend for something, and nothing happened. When I confronted him, he said that he had read some of my reviews and was totally intimidated by how well conceived and written they were. He felt inadequate.

I suggested he take a few favorite review lines and rewrite them in his voice. Maybe he could call one of his other close friends and say something like, “I told Mark I’d write a review for his new book and I’m having a hard time. Could you help me?”  You get the point. ‘Actions speak louder than words’ is not just a hollow saying.  A lot of gratuitous platitudes and excuses don’t pay the proverbial rent. The moral of this story is that my dedication to a friendship is not unconditional, but based on expectations that have been set and agreed to by all. My faith in my friend’s caring words died due to his inaction.

Pluto is also lord and master of the Sexual Orgasm (little death). One exquisite moment of fully losing oneself, however, is not enough for Pluto. Temptation, seduction, and betrayal are his M.O. While seduction turns Pluto on, betrayal gets him off. Guilt, obligation, shame, and remorse safeguard his evil secrets. Pluto tempts us to rationalize our bad behaviors by telling us, “Everything is OK as long as no one gets hurt”. Unfortunately, someone is often hurt, intentionally or not.

Many of our darkest fears are connected to our secret obsessions, lusts, fetishes, and sexual desires. Fear of getting caught turns a lot of people on. The more taboo the behavior, the more erotic and pleasurable the action. Pluto falsely assures us that our secrets will stay secret. Poisonous spiders, slithery snakes, and hungry crocodiles stealthily lurk beneath his stagnant waters. Society frowns on unconventional sexual experiences. Fortunately, however, it agrees that sex should be consensual among adults and that adults must stay away from children sexually.

Everyone has dark secrets. Abusive parents, jealous partners, manipulative bosses, and mean spirited jailers mask the shadowy unstable side of their emotional natures. Your friendly neighbor, a model citizen, devoted husband, loving father, loyal friend, and faithful parishioner conceals his secret lusts for sex, money, and property while he indulges in his physical, mental, emotional, psychological, and spiritual perversions. When he dies, his family finds hidden pornographic literature, sado-masochistic sexual supplies, secret love letters, illegal drugs, and concealed money.

A coroner secretly collects perverse photos at death scenes. A career of fatality has warped his reverence for life into a morbid sense of humor. He shares his handiwork and pathology with his deviant friends. One photo has immortalized a man’s greatest fear as he accidentally electrocuted himself while trying to sexually get off when he switched on the alternating current that he had wired to his genitals.

A cadaver awaits a makeover. The mortician lights a match by his decaying anus and gently presses on his stomach. The methane produces a torch that singes the hair on his thighs. It smells horrible. The mortician and his friends laugh. Pluto is pleased.

One emergency room nurse told me about a couple that was in a horrible automobile accident. She was sitting on his lap and having sex while he was speeding on the freeway. They were unable to separate and were still together when the emergency vehicles arrived. The Plutonian part was that they were both married to other people.

Life’s most painful lessons are a result of choosing darkness. It’s easy to rationalize the darkest behavior when your head rules your heart. I never intended to hurt anyone. No one did anything they didn’t want to do. I may not have told the whole truth, but I didn’t lie. I’m sorry for my part. It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Can you keep a secret? Do you depend on someone whose hard lessons result from bad moral values? Is temptation strong? Do guilt, shame, remorse, and fear hold you in darkness?

the great seal copyGEEntire societies and cultures are corrupted by the Plutocratic power of corporate money owning their raw materials, energy, communications, transportation, food, health, and their financial, religious, and political processes.

Everyone has heard the saying “The only guarantees in life are Death and Taxes”. Death and taxes are definitely Plutonic. If there’s a particular industry that fits Scorpio and the 8th house of the astrological chart, it’s insurance. Insurance is a contractual arrangement whereby one party pays another party to guarantee them against a specified loss. Insurance implies that we have something of value. Perhaps we can’t afford not to value something.  We worry less about the costs of bad shit happening to our family, health, home, car, or property if our premiums are paid.

Insurance is a form of gambling. Your insurance agent is your bookie. Your insurer is the casino. The house is always favored financially due to statistical permutations, combinations, and probabilities. High risk means high premiums. Actuarial tables decide the odds. The insured always loses, even when he wins. My good friend Lloyd tells me that he’s depending on winning Lotto for his retirement. He assures me that it gives him hope. “You’ve got to play to lose” he quips.

Insurance does not protect us from bad shit happening. If you’re poor and healthy, having insurance that you can’t afford may be a bigger gamble than not having insurance. That’s why we need affordable healthcare. Insuring can be confused with ensuring or assuring. Spraying crops with pesticides ensures fewer bugs and weeds. It assures that we eat, drink, and breathe toxic chemicals. Investing Social Security in the Stock Market does not insure that the market won’t collapse. Drilling for oil in pristine wilderness does not insure that we will have enough oil. It does ensure and assure we will have environmental, social, and political problems. Conserving energy ensures that we will have more energy and waste fewer natural resources. Offering vengeance as a solution to violence assures more violence. Does having a nuclear arsenal insure, ensure, or assure that we will not have Nuclear War?

toe tagPeople frequently ask me, “Am I going to die?” or “When am I going to die?” I assure them that everyone dies. Only God knows when. Life insurance protects the living. What are your last years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds of life worth? What’s the premium for a graceful and painless final exit? That’s why I’ve created my very own “Dr. Death Do it Yourself Kit”. When it’s my time, I have a logical, practical, painless, and peaceful alternative to facing a future of pain, dependency, lack of awareness, loss of love, or poverty in old age (hopefully).

Libra – Search for Other

Libra

Libra is the month of marriage, partnership, sharing, and giving. Libra is the 7th sign of the zodiac and the 7th house of marriage in astrology. Libras strive for balance, idolize harmony, dislike discord, and hate confrontation. They’re the best negotiators of all types. Famous for having a hard time deciding where and what to eat or what to wear, Libras can be very decisive when it really matters. Most Libras prefer to be frank and direct, but haven’t figured out how to be liked for it. Even when they’re aggressive, indirect, or vague, they manage to get their way. Many tread the thin line between ethics and honesty. Maybe they know something important that could kill a deal or make a task harder for themselves, but fail to mention it. Some Libras serve their clients by wielding logic, tact, and diplomacy like Samurai Swordsmen. Athena’s mighty sword is brandished with icy detachment. Legal, political, publishing, marketing, public relations, higher education, and entertainment fields are burgeoning with Libra types.

Libra HandAll Thinking types have square palms and long fingers. Many Libras have long straight unobstructed headlines that fork at their end near the percussion of the hand. They see every side of a situation. Straight and strong long pinkie fingers enhance communication. Dominant bottom and middle phalanges are favorable for commerce, banking, and real estate, while a long top phalanx is better for public speaking, journalism, and law. Blended with strong index fingers, you’ve got ambitious hardworking managers and powerful leaders. A wide separation between head and life lines increases personal initiative and spontaneity and reveals its owner really doesn’t care what others think of them. Some Libras are blinded by their desire and need to get their way. Trying to change a Libra’s mind is like playing mental monopoly. Be direct and make good sense.

Most healthy Libra types have strong handshakes and firm pink elastic skin. Long graceful heart lines extend from under the pinkie to the base of the index finger, symbolizing sentimentality and romance. Vertical lines on the ball of the thumb within the life line are soul commitments to family and friends. Libras are idealistic, romantic, and refined. Aesthetics are important to them. You’ll see Libra business types in chic designer clothing taking clients out to trendy restaurants.

AthenaAthena is my favorite Libra archetype. Greek Goddess of Wisdom and Justice, Athena rules the strategic thinking required in battle. Heroes like Odysseus (Libra) and Achilles (Aries) worshiped her. Often pictured as a handsome Goddess in battle armor, Athena holds a shield (Intuition) in one hand and a sword or spear (Thinking) in the other. She discards emotion to think with crystal clarity. In Libra, Athena holds the scales of justice and has an owl (Wisdom) on her shoulder. Real palmistry story about my relationship with an Athena type who I call ‘Athen’.

As a Libra, Truman Capote innately understood how easy it is to manipulate truth and the legal system. “Even an attorney of moderate talent can postpone doomsday year after year, for the system of appeals that pervades American jurisprudence amounts to a legalistic wheel of fortune, a game of chance, somewhat fixed in favor of the criminal, that the participants play interminably.” In Cold Blood

Gore Vidal said, “Truman Capote made lying an art…”

Scott             Lisa

Scott is a Cardinal Thinking type. His Sun, Moon, Mars, and Jupiter are in the sign of Libra. That’s a lot of Libra. Scott has Scorpio rising and three planets in Scorpio. That’s a lot of fixity in the Feeling department. Scott is head ruled, but soft hearted. Much of his emotional growth can be attributed to his partner Lisa, who is a Cardinal Feeling type. Her Sun, Venus, and Uranus are in Cancer. She’s heart ruled, but also a strategic thinker. She has to in order to partner well with Scott. Scott and Lisa balance each other beautifully. Scott’s strong, firm, hardworking hands have designed and built sustainable housing, planted and tended bountiful gardens, and nourished community. Scott is also a Tai Chi master, baker, musician, song writer, and friend. www.pompanuck.org.

susan alancraigSusan was born on the same day and year as Scott. She has the same planets at the same degrees. You’d think their hands would be very similar, but they’re very different. Susan has Capricorn (Cardinal) rising. Observe the separation between her head and life line. Susan has long index fingers. She’s ambitious, but in a very different way than Scott. Notice how the fingers on her right (dominant) hand lean towards the index finger. As a giver, she has traversed much of the Third World with her loving partner Orin, helping less fortunate people have better lives. Her communication and language skills are refined. Susan sings in a chorale, her wonderful voice her instrument. She’s a great documentary photographer (all my website photos), gardener, musician, and friend.

Cousin RichieMy Cousin Richie, Libra extraordinaire, philosopher, sculptor, and inventor; created Tangle, The Infinite Sculpture (designer series of interactive, interlocking, plastic elbows). Our mothers were sisters. We share the ancestral “happiness”, and “seeker” genes. I once said to Richie, “If you put the same religious fervor into saving the world as you have into plastic elbows, we’d be saved”. He replied, “I am saving the world, one Tangle at a time” He meant it.

Dalai LamaRichie has sold tens of millions of Tangles worldwide. I ran into a mutual friend on the streets of NYC who said he visited a monastery in Tibet and saw a picture of the Dalai Lama with a chrome Tangle in his lap. I wasn’t surprised. When I visited Richie at his gift show booth in NYC, he was talking with a very conservative buyer from Wal-Mart. I leaned closer to overhear what he was saying, “Let me show you the only product in this show worth more than money”.

The hardest task in reading hands is learning to judge hands. One person’s long, rectangular, and firm assessment can be another’s short, square, and soft appraisal. Rigorous practice is necessary to learn to observe and judge hands. Few of us are pure types. You may look at Cousin Richie’s fingers and see them as too short for a thinking type. I admit that if I didn’t know Richie, I may have seen his fingers differently, but the opposition in his symbolism is very powerful. Knowing Richie’s astrology and behavior has influenced how I see his hands. Dominant Libra opposes Aries as autumn opposes spring. Odysseus’s strategy fanned the flames of Jason’s passion on his quest for the Golden Fleece. Astute planning still fans the flames of passion in the 21st Century.

GaryMy brother Gary has a Pisces sun, a mutable feeling type. With Libra hands, he behaves more like a cardinal thinking type. Gary is a geriatric psychiatrist. I threatened to become one of his craziest patients, but then as a Gemini, I decided not to get old. Gary’s Libra temperament gracefully deals with the most stressful situations. Pisces gives Gary the ability to have a natural empathy and intuition that many Libras lack. Gary is a great psychiatrist, husband, father, brother, son, and friend.

Heart line touching head lineYou don’t have to be an expert palmist to see certain truths in hands. When the end of a heart line dips down to touch the beginning of a headline, it’s unlikely a person will verbalize their deeper feelings, especially negative emotions. A rational mind controls a very impressionable heart. Add a short index finger and that will wreak havoc on a person’s self-esteem. It makes trying to offer advice to anyone with that combination a challenge for someone who wants to help. When you discuss personal history, you may learn a parent was emotionally or physically absent during the person’s formative years.

Mohandas GandhiOne highly principled Libra was Mohandas Gandhi, lawyer, political, spiritual leader, and civil rights champion in early twentieth century India. He promoted non-violent disobedience and began India’s freedom movement. Gandhi must have had huge empathy and unshakable conviction to overcome the inertia of his short index fingers. Dennis Kucinich, a Libra, and a long shot in the 2004 presidential campaign, promised to make non-violence a priority by establishing a “Department of Peace”. Russian president Vladimir Putin is a Libra. He was nominated for the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize.

Bruce Springstein “The Boss”, has captivated masses for 30+ years with his charisma. John Lennon and Jim Henson were also Libras who mesmerized masses of followers. “Imagine there’s no country, / It isn’t hard to do. / Nothing to kill or die for, / And no religion, too. / Imagine all the people / Living life in peace”  John Lennon (1940-1980)

SleepingBeautySleeping Beauty symbolizes the search for self through other. Prince Charming (Aries) rescues SB from her hundred year sleep. He bestows a magic kiss that enables her to awaken and they ride off into the sunset to live happily ever after. Many Libras have unrealistic expectations of relationships that end up disappointing them in reality. I remind them that there are many more frogs and beasts than princes. Libras want to be married. A marriage license may be a legally binding contract, but it doesn’t guarantee love.

Winnie the PoohWinnie the Pooh (Libra) tries to find balance in his life by reasoning “think, think, think”. He always manages to get a pot full of honey for himself. Christopher Robin (Aquarius) knows what’s best for everyone. Winnie lives in the hundred-acre wood with his friends, Piglet (Gemini), Rabbit (Virgo), Roo (Saggitarius), Tigger (Leo), and Eeyore (Capricorn).

Everyone has Libra, Venus, and a 7th house in their astrological symbolism. Deep down, we know what’s honest, true, and fair. Most of us have ethical and moral values and boundaries. We also know right from wrong and fear the consequences of our betrayals. It’s too easy to analyze, rationalize, and compartmentalize our bad habits and behaviors. “Laws keep honest people honest”, “Locks keep honest people out”, and “Contracts are only as good as the people who sign them” are aphorisms that describe Libra.
