GEMINI MAY 23 – JUNE 21
“The lips of wisdom are closed, except to the ears of understanding.” Hermes
Mercury retrograde in Gemini is an ideal time to review and renew our thoughts and ideas.
The supreme thinker of all time was Hermes Trismegistus, father of occult wisdom, astrology, and alchemy. Hermes was a real person who lived in ancient Egypt. He was the mystic teacher of Abraham. The Egyptians called him Thoth, scribe of the gods. Hermes became the Greek god of Wisdom. The Romans dubbed him Mercury, messenger of the gods. He’s the Magician in Tarot, at an eternal crossroads with the resources and tools he needs to go wherever, whenever, and however he chooses. His key challenge is making the right choices.
Hermes resides in Gemini (social) in spring and Virgo (service) in autumn. God of trade, thieves, travelers, sports, athletes, and border crossings, Hermes delivered messages from Mt. Olympus to mortals through their dreams and guided souls to the underworld. He was worshiped by farmers for nature and shepherds. Hermes was a liaison between the visible and invisible. He refused to grow old and remained young in spirit as he aged gracefully for three hundred years in the flesh. Peter Pan, who flies and never grows old, is Hermes’ adolescence. I’m soon to be 68 and still like a teenager with my ideal Wendy!
Hermes was the father of wireless communication. His disciples understood their brains were cell communication hardware while their minds transmitted and received messages. Long before Moses, while most alchemists were trying to turn lead into Gold, Hermes realized that the real gold was found in relationships between cells made up of energy and matter that vibrated on physical, mental, and spiritual planes. Everyone and everything consists of individual cells that are physically, mentally, and spiritually connected to all other cells on all other planes at the same time. We can connect to anyone or thing at any time by realizing, recognizing, establishing, and tuning our links.
Hermetic alchemy is the mastery of mental forces to transmute one kind of mental vibration into another as opposed to manipulating material elements. Hermes calls the unknowable and indefinable spirit THE ALL. The inner nature of THE ALL is unknowable. That’s why we have anthropomorphic gods and institutionalized religion.
“While ALL is in THE ALL, it is equally true that THE ALL is in ALL. To him who truly understands this truth hath come great knowledge”
Hermes describes spirit as the essence which permeates ALL and bonds THE ALL. Our spiritual development is dependent on our recognition and realization of the universal spirit within each of us. Hermes identified seven metaphysical principles and established seven philosophical practices that explored, examined, and explained his theories of mentalism, correspondence, vibration, polarity, rhythm, cause and effect, and gender. Hermes awareness of spirit enabled him to give form to the formless.
According to Hermes, opposites are two extremes of the same thing with varying degrees between. Where does heat end and cold begin? Where does darkness stop and light begin? How about hard and soft, sharp and dull, noisy and quiet, high and low, and positive and negative?
The same principle operates on the mental plane. Love and hate are opposites with like and dislike being shades of gray. Vibrations of hate can be transformed to vibrations of love through the art of polarization, a mental science known and practiced by ancient and modern Hermetic masters. The Kybalion says, “Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature but different by degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled” “THE SECRET” is polarization.
Hermeticists were the original astrologers, alchemists, and psychologists. Ancients possessed knowledge of transcendental astronomy through astrology; transcendental chemistry through alchemy; and transcendental psychology through mystic psychology. Great philosophers and thinkers throughout history have unlocked the mysteries of nature with symbolism. Galileo was an Astronomer, Pythagoras was a Mathematician, Confucius was a Philosopher, Plato was a Thinker, Aristotle was a Scientist, Nostradamus was an Astrologer, Leonardo Da Vinci was an Artist, George Washington was a President, Carl Jung was a Psychologist, and Joseph Campbell was a Mythologist. They were all grand masters of metaphysical symbolism.
Real alchemy isn’t about turning lead (Saturn) into gold (Sun). Alchemy is a set of magical formulas, tools, and esoteric instruction for becoming healthy, happy, and spiritually fulfilled in life. Initiates learn to cultivate clear vision, make healthy choices, and maintain healthy attitudes, nurture relationships, build sound structures on solid foundations, and face challenges with strength, courage, dignity, wisdom, and faith.
Healthy seeds planted in healthy soils produce bountiful harvests of inner and outer knowledge and wealth. Successful alchemists are disciplined, structured, focused, mentally clear, emotionally balanced, and spiritually magnetized. The laws of attraction work best when you know what you want and your intent is clear. Spiritual alchemy can transform negative circumstances into positive challenges with favorable results. Each and every relationship affects each and every other relationship on a cellular level by raising or diminishing its vibration, polarity, and rhythm.
Astrology was one of the languages Hermes used to unlock the ancient mysteries. Astrology compares and contrasts the heavens with the affairs of mankind on earth. Astrologers espouse Hermes second principle of correspondence “As above, so below – as below, so above”. The diversity of astrological symbols and their relationships describe each of us and our roles in this huge dysfunctional family we call humanity.
Hermes is an important archetype in our personal and collective psyches. He asks us to embrace the positive aspects of our characters and give ourselves permission to be healthy and happy. Hermes helps us communicate with our families, friends, and other fellow human beings.
Gemini has a quick mind. He has no problem acknowledging your point of view, even when he disagrees with you. She seems to be able to converse about anything at any time with anyone. He’s versatile, curious, logical, spontaneous, and witty. She’s one of the most interesting people you’ll ever meet. He can handle plenty of information, analysis, and detail, though he’d rather be free of responsibilities. She’s too clever for her own good. He’s not beyond bending the truth to suit his needs. She can be a con artist, thief, or pickpocket. He can be restless, nervous, superficial, and unreliable. She’s notorious for being indecisive, ambiguous, and ambivalent. He’s sometimes accused of being schizophrenic. Maintaining long term relationships that aren’t true friendships is a formula for failure. His greatest fulfillment and success comes from learning to stay structured, disciplined, and focused in the midst of utter distraction.
Shine your virtue and healthy intent brightly on the most beneficial and constructive aspects of your character and you too will turn lead into gold.
Stay tuned for ‘Gemini Hands’
Thanks for an especially upbeat and inspiring post on Gemini / Hermes. I’d never heard of Polarity, that’s a fascinating concept. It has occurred to me that “opposites” are only distinct because gradations between the two poles are eclipsed, as it were–somehow hidden from view. For example, 0 and 1 are pretty distinct, as long as you suppress the infinity of decimals between them. Likewise, the western musical scale doesn’t deal with quarter tones, per se; even more complex are enharmonic vibrations that produce extraneous notes when the overtones of 2 or more instruments wave together. We get used to not-listening to that part of the soundscape, but it’s there nonetheless. I take away the useful idea that “polarity” is the differential gear of exchange in the range between “opposites”. And I love the concept that we can “connect to anyone” by “tuning our links”. Thanks, Mark! + hi to “Wendy”.
