Taurus Hands

Taurus3

You don’t have to have a Taurus sun sign to be Taurean. ‘Pure Taurus types’ have pink, firm, elastic skin, bulging solid percussion under pinkie finger, stiff thumb and fingers, full rosy ball of thumb surrounded by long clear deep life line, clear deep lines and skin ridge patterns, very few peripheral lines, long graceful heart line ending under index finger, horizontal head line closely tied to the life line at their beginnings, predominantly loop and arch fingerprints, square finger tips, well developed lower knots on fingers with dominant middle and bottom phalanges. The hand above belongs to a unique Pisces.

Taurus is driven by their physical senses. These responsible, practical, pragmatic, objective, dependable, and reliable individuals understand how the material world works. They tend to get bogged down with practical and mundane matters that limit their abstract abilities and imagination. They trust what they can see and feel, not ideas, intuitions, or inspirations. As creatures of habit, they can get addicted to routine and order. They’re great at maintaining the status quo, but procrastinate at beginnings and endings. They must learn to pay attention to their habits and patterns from the get go.

Taurus is a feminine archetype. Aphrodite’s need for comfort and beauty can transform her visions of wealth and power into physical reality. Venus loves family, friendships, home, food, nature, art and music. Her strong need for physical security drives her practical attitudes. Honest, dependable, and trustworthy, she’s highly valued for her natural warmth and good sense. She won’t bend the truth or perform a song and dance act for anyone. She’s loyal, affectionate, and charming, but can also be controlling, jealous, and possessive. She thrives in real estate, banking, food, and fashion businesses. She’s not the best salesman because she takes rejection personally. Her greatest challenges are to trust her gut, give up control, and to let go when it makes no sense to hang on.

Many of the best bulls and worst minotaurs were born under the sign of Taurus.

white bull

Pope John Paul llPope John Paul ll was a radiant spirit who embodied the finest qualities of Taurus. He asked the rich to share their wealth with the poor. The first Pope to visit a synagogue, he encouraged Catholics and Jews to love one another. He survived an assassination attempt that nearly killed him and graciously rose to do battle with countless chaotic messes and reforms in the church.

Krishnamurti was a spiritual guide who shared good sense with whoever would listen.

Leonardo da Vinci was the original hipster ~ a great artist and inventor.

Sigmund Freud was father of modern psychoanalysis.

Karl Marx developed the theory of socialism.

Martha Graham was mother of modern dance.

Katherine Hepburn was Grande Dame of American stage and movies.

Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister Tony Blair are anchors for Great Britain.

From the darkest depths of Tartarus arose a Minotaur from 1933 to 1945.

Adolf Hitler

“The great mass of people will more easily fall victim to a big lie than a small one”

Responsible for over thirty million deaths, Adolph Hitler transformed our world by harnessing anger, fear, and terror and combining it with the power of symbolism to control and manipulate the masses.

Jim Jones, a fanatic cult figure, led 1,000 people to mass suicide in 1978.

Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh showed no remorse for his evil.

Saddam Hussein (Iraqi President 79~06) was slain and shamed by our military.

Citizen KaneWilliam Randolph Hearst and Orson Welles (both bulls) battled stubbornly over the making and release of the movie, ‘Citizen Kane’. Kane was a Midas who Welles immodestly modeled after Hearst. Despite his natural charisma and brilliant acting and directing, Welles was no match for Hearst’s financial fortune and ability to influence the masses. Welles was determined and persistent in his righteous defiance of Hearst. Stubborn, acquisitive, possessive, and controlling, Hearst relentlessly tortured Welles with legalities and bludgeoned him with bad publicity until Welles could no longer afford his principles, rise to his challenges, or control his self-indulgences (a peril for Taurus).

‘Values’ are the esoteric correspondence for Taurus. Everything and nothing are of equal value; identical in nature, but different by degree. A billionaire dying of cancer will gladly trade his money for youth and good health. A glamorous celebrity with a brain damaged child will gratefully and graciously scrub toilets in Grand Central Station. People ask, “How long is my life?” Life is about quality, not quantity. Everyone dies.

‘Less is more’ learned King Midas as he yearned for the touch of gold, got it, and then turned his beloved daughter and their magical relationship into a hunk of metal. Food transformed to gold as it touched his lips. Midas is a lesson of values. How can we be stable, secure, and happy and let go of needless wants at the same time? Too little or too much of anything raises our awareness of what matters. Aphrodite (Greek) rules Taurus. Venus (Roman) loves and values her stability, security, sensuality, and splendor.

the great seal copyAlchemy is the science of turning lead into gold. It’s the art of turning Saturn into the Sun. We can combine courage with virtue, honesty with integrity, dignity with nobility, responsibility with discipline, structure with focus, and determination with persistence. We can cultivate healthy attitudes, think constructively, set realistic goals, and positively transform our inner and outer worlds. Embrace the best qualities of Aphrodite. Master darkness and manage your family; Apollo, Artemis, Hermes, Ares, Zeus, Cronos, Vulcan, Poseidon, and Hades. We can all be our own best friends and bull shit detectors.

Common sense is not necessarily good sense. People apply formulas for success, yet few are truly successful. Unhealthy values point to unwholesome societies that point to unnatural paths of self-destruction. The human race has become a race against bad shit happening. Our major problems are not physical. They are symptoms of ideological, philosophical, and spiritual dysfunction. Success is a state of mind, heart, and spirit. Our health and the health of our world is a reflection of our thoughts and feelings. Must we be habitually and eternally challenged to learn to value what we have by losing it?

The New York Stock Exchange and Federal Reserve are bulls. Uranus transited Taurus from 1935 to 1942. The USA went off the gold standard. People began focusing on their values and questioning materialism. President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act. Labor organized, forming unions that went on strike and engaged in sit-downs across the nation. President Roosevelt defended the Four Essential Freedoms: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear.

People born between 1935 and 1942 have Uranus in Taurus. Many have experienced sudden and unexpected gains and reversals. After 84 years, in 2019, Uranus returns to Taurus for seven years. Polluted partisan politics progressively prevent and pervert our progress, including social and national security. Expect extreme financial fluctuations.

Aquarius 2

AQUARIUS   JANUARY 21 – FEBRUARY 18

“It is easier to live through someone else than to become complete yourself.”

Betty Friedan

You don’t need to be an Aquarius to be Aquarian. I’m generalizing, but I’ve noticed pure types have lower set thumbs, stiffer fingers, and more rounded and spatulate fingertips than Libras or Geminis (all have square palms and long fingers). I’ve seen many head and life lines closely intertwined at their beginnings and bulging knots on several finger joints. I’ve also observed many thumbs and ring fingers with whorl fingerprints. Most other tips are loops. The dialogue between hand reader and client reveals the degree to which the person is fulfilling their innate potentials.

Everyone has Uranus and Aquarius in their symbolism. Uranus gives Aquarian energy to circumstances and relationships depending on its location in the horoscope and its relationship with other celestial bodies. Many modern palmists see Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in specific locations in the hands. I’m not one of them. In astrology, the outer planets represent collective unconscious and symbolize karmic generational challenges. The outer planets affect the individual, but are best interpreted not as individual details, but through the lens of time, space, and major patterns. In my experience, they must be observed and interpreted in the overall qualities of hands and not in specific locations.

Aquarius imageAquarius symbolMany people think Aquarius is a water sign. They see a water bearer and a symbol that looks like waves. Aquarius is fixed air. Air symbolizes thinking. Air waves are sharp and precise. Water embodies the personal and collective unconscious, emotion, and feeling. The water bearer is discarding feelings in favor of thinking by pouring them from a jug.

Aquarians are famous for brotherhood, community, friendships, and avoiding intimacy. Much of their time is spent in a world of their own ideas and inventions. They overvalue their freedom, cherish their opinions, and secretly believe they can solve problems better than anyone else. They’re progressive, original, and independent thinkers who pride themselves on their unconventionality, originality, and uniqueness. They must learn to value their individuality for what it is and not for the sake of being different. They relish revolution when a cause is righteous, but must remember that just because they’re revolting doesn’t make them revolutionary. Uranians attract unconventional and unusual friends. They like sharing ideas, but stick to their opinions. The only way to convince an Aquarian to change his mind is to be logical and make great sense.Encourage innovation. They’ll be happier.

Uranus, ruler of the Sky and Father of the Titans in Greek myth, was first son of Gaea and Chaos. A keyword of Uranus is sudden change. Uranian types can be erratic and unpredictable. Aquarians love tech. They’re visionary blue-sky thinkers. Jules Verne ~ Buzz Aldrin ~ Helen Gurley Brown ~ James Dean ~ Charles Dickens ~ Michael Jordan Franklin Roosevelt ~ Charles Lindbergh ~ Bill Maher ~ Mozart ~ Paul Newman

Uranus takes 84 years to return to its natal position. Betty Friedan (2/4/21 – 2/4/06) died on her 85th birthday. Betty transformed women’s rights with The Feminine Mystique and catalyzed the women’s movement. Founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW), Betty organized the first International Feminist Congress in 1973.Betty’s Aquarian war cry was “Make policy not coffee”.

Tarin Chaplin (Dec. 4, 1941 – May 30, 2009)

Tarin ChaplinAn “eco-choreographer,” activist, writer and dancer, Tarin sought to connect people to the earth, the elements, and the sentient and non-sentient beings that share this universe with us (Burlington Free Press).

Tarin has no planets in Aquarius. Her Aquarian personality reveals itself in her widely inventively spread long fingers on square palms. A bundle of creative expression, Tarin had an overly developed sense of responsibility, obligation, and guilt.  Her crooked middle fingers tell a tale of too many worthy causes that delayed her from living in her ideal world. Tarin’s The Intimate Act of Choreography is one of Joanna’s favorite books.

Pattie CanovaPattie Canova is a Taurus and the Queen of Pentacles. She behaves like the Queen of Swords with her square palms, long straight fingers, and stiff thumbs. A strong head and life line connection reveals an Aquarian type. Pattie is my all-time favorite tarot teacher. I had studied with other experts, but never really connected to the archetypes until I met Pattie. Her knowledge and understanding of the myths and her grasp of archetypal psychology is awesome. A genuine passion and desire to share what she knows puts Pattie way ahead of her competition. Notice how her fingers lean toward her strong index fingers that project outward. Pattie’s a Giver.

Bright pink color on the heels of Pattie’s hands reveals her psychic ability. I’ve watched those lunar mounts glow like hot coals when her intuition is cranking. Pattie has an uncanny ability to remember everyone’s names. I’m unhappily afflicted with Alzheimer’s for names. Pattie performs feats of tarot magic on stage and radio. She shared some Aquarian thoughts and ideas with me in a letter that I’m sharing with you.

“My work on stage may seem frivolous and at times it can be. My audience can ask the most banal of questions, but it’s fear that keeps them from themselves. They’re a great reflection for my process; what I love about it and what I’ve just given myself to receive from it all is the experience of joining, of oneness, the giving up of judgments and quieting of my perception. We are all on the same journey. Doing what I’m doing has helped me take it out of my head and into my heart and practice. We all walk that hard road toward enlightenment. I so trust the outcome. I so trust the absoluteness and the power of spirit. I know that everyone in their own way ‘hears’ something, either through feeling or insight.”

Jennifer de WitMy sister Jennifer is Taurus.   Her long straight knotty stiff fingers and thumbs are set on square palms. A fixed thinker, she can be incredibly logical, very practical, and extremely obstinate. I know better than to argue with her. Jennifer is a compelling story teller, gifted children’s librarian, loving parent, partner, daughter, sister, community member, good friend, and amazing natural cook. The tragic loss of Graham, Jenny and Brian’s 23 year old son has forever created sadness in their hearts. They cherish his memory by continuing to be their realest and healthiest selves.

Kevin McGuireIt’s impossible not to like Kevin McGuire. A charismatic Capricorn, Kevin’s Aquarian hands blend a need for structure, discipline, and focus (Saturn) with his originality and creativity (Uranus). He’s acted and directed his way around the globe, performing lead roles in Les Mis, Phantom of the Opera, Jane Eyre, Secret Garden, Uncle Vanya, and recently, Kris in Miracle on 34th Street. Kevin has sung for Presidents Clinton, Reagan, and Ford.

OprahOprah Winfrey is an Aquarian with lots of fire. Her intuitive type is seen in her rectangular palms and short fingers. Sagittarius rises in her natal chart, blending two virgin goddesses, Athena and Artemis. As an Alchemist, Oprah turned lead into gold when she transformed an abandoned poor black bastard girl from the south into the self-appointed Queen of mass media. Oprah truly wants to make a positive difference, but no matter what and how much she does, it’s a droplet in a sea of human suffering, misery, and tragedy. Oprah must balance responsibility with transparency by always being true to herself.

I love Uranus (conjunct my sun). Some of my favorite teachers have been Aquarians. When the all too familiar ‘shit was hitting the fan’ a quarter century ago, I hunted for a compatible psychotherapist. After interviewing Freudians, Jungians, Reichians, and Adlerians, I chose a Gestalt therapist. My needs were too immediate to be spending time combing for clues from my childhood to fix my current challenges.

I chose an Aquarian. I call him Ian, for the “ians”. I’d weave my web of melodrama for Ian, hoping to gain his approval and sympathy. When I’d finish, he’d ask, “So what else is new?”  He wouldn’t let me get away with anything. Ian noticed every expression and gesture. I’d say “but…”  He’d say “and…”  I’d say “can’t…”  He’d say “Don’t want to!” Ian often pissed me off by cleaning his nails or playing with his latest gadget. In the end, his unorthodox methods and clever techniques helped me change my stuck thinking.

ZandorAs a thinking type, Ian’s hands were just like mine.  He had square palms and long fingers held widely apart. The difference was that my hands and fingers were very flexible while Ian’s were knotty and very stiff. He was strong willed, focused, and determined. I was a “jack of all trades, master of none”. Ian helped me focus, discipline myself, and clarify my thinking. I valued Ian’s friendship as well as his skills.

Ian was fascinated by my ability to read hands. We shared our ideas and theories for hours after our sessions. As founding director of a Gestalt Psychology Institute, Ian suggested I participate in a twice weekly intermediate Gestalt study group. I joined for two years and loved the experience. I seamlessly integrated physical, psychological, philosophical, and spiritual archetypes with my knowledge of palmistry. My hand reading expertise brought fresh perspectives to our study group. Psychology compliments metaphysics by providing a foundation for counseling. Palmistry provides psychology with great diagnostic tools. Counseling skills are neglected in the practices of many self-appointed psychics. It’s much easier to see something than to know what to say about what you see. In the end, it’s what you say and how you say it that matters.

Uranus takes 7 years to change sign and 84 years to orbit our sun through twelve signs. In Aquarius, Uranus churned up the wild rapids of the early 20th century. It brought sudden and unexpected changes on a grand scale from 1912 to 1919.

1912 ~ the “unsinkable” Titanic sunk on its maiden voyage.

1913 ~ a series of tornadoes and floods devastated Middle America, killing over 3,000 people and costing over $100,000,000

1914 ~ World War I began.

1915 ~ a German submarine torpedoed the Lusitania.

The first transcontinental phone call was made by Alexander Graham Bell.

1916 ~ Pancho Villa, a Mexican revolutionary, invaded the USA.

President Woodrow Wilson retaliated by sending 6,000 troops into Mexico.

The Official Gazette of London published names of 80 United States firms suspected of trading with Germany.

1917 ~ USA declares war against Germany.

Worst race riot in American history occurs in Illinois.

Congress amends to prohibit alcohol.

1918 ~ Spanish Flu was the worst pandemic since the bubonic plague that wiped out one quarter of Europe’s population in the 14th century. Daylight Savings Time began.

1919 ~ Prohibition is ratified as the 18th amendment to the constitution. Congress failed to ratify the Treaty of Versailles. President Wilson opposed and unsuccessfully took his disagreement to the American people. He died on tour after having a massive stroke.

When Neptune began transiting the sign of Aquarius in 1996, people became even more divided, deceived, and demoralized by the powers that be. When Uranus entered Aquarius in 1996, it was home. Many people believed it launched the Age of Aquarius. Humanity would finally choose brotherhood over selfishness, convenience, and fashion.

President Bill Clinton’s first political act of 1996 was to sign a welfare reform bill that made life harder for the poor. Taiwan had its first democratic election. There were four major plane crashes. Madeline Albright became the first female Secretary of State. Ellen DeGeneres became the first outwardly gay star of an ABC sitcom. Body piercing and tattoos became more popular.

In 1998, Catholics and Protestants voted for peace in Ireland. We began bombing Iraq. Male virility became popular after Pfizer introduced Viagra. The stock market created a new form of gambling dubbed “internet day trading”. DVDs became the fastest growing consumer electronics product in history.  Bribes and drugs tarnished the Olympics. We lost our innocence, civil liberties, and illusion of private and social security and stability.

Bill ClintonNeptune rules confusion, illusion, and delusion.  When Neptune entered Aquarius in 1998, the House of Representatives impeached President Clinton, who gave “perjuriously false and misleading” testimony in front of a grand jury. Bill is a Leo with hands to match.

Bill GatesOur government and twenty state attorney generals charged Microsoft with anti-trust practices for dominating the Internet access market. Bill is Scorpio with intuitive hands.

When Neptune left Aquarius in 2012, our greatest illusion and deception touched old, poor, sick people, and everyone else who can’t afford to have bad shit happening. Greedy visions are affecting billions of people aged 65 and over. We must understand what’s truly valuable before we can transform our inequities. Mid – 21st Century will be an era of profits of false prophets intended to confuse, delude, and control the 99%. Tycoons will finance political campaigns, control partisan politics, manage health care, restrict social welfare, gamble with people’s pensions, and risk social security.

Since Neptune entered Pisces in 2012, old, poor, and sick people have been seeking security, stability, and spiritual answers and finding despair, fear, and terror.

Capricorn ~ Search for Purpose

Capricorn - Search for Purpose 2

CAPRICORN

DECEMBER 21 – JANUARY 20

“If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.”

                                                                                                       Martin Luther King Jr.

You don’t have to be a Capricorn to be Saturnian. Healthy types have a strong self-assured hand shake, firm hands, pale skin, flat square palms, and short stiff fingers and square fingertips with loop and arch prints. Dominant middle fingered folk tend to be the most serious and responsible of all types. The combination of prevailing middle fingers and first and middle phalanges make them very different from AriesCancer, and Libra types. Every thought and action must have a purpose. As great business leaders and managers, they embrace responsibility with commitment and dedication and carry out the specifics of everyday business while maintaining a long-range vision of their goal. As structured, focused, disciplined, and dependable individuals, they expect you to be on time and do as you say. They have very little patience for excuses. As natural skeptics, they don’t trust slick and flashy types. As workaholics, they don’t think twice about coming in early or staying late when a task needs to be finished. They can patiently wait until the right conditions present themselves.

Dominant Saturn fingerMiddle fingers should always be longest no matter what your type. Short middle fingers are lives out of balance and control. Middle fingers embody our need for structure and reveal our ability to focus, be disciplined, and responsible. We can see from our middle fingers how serious and reliable we are and how we manage our restrictions, obstructions, obligations, and guilt. Saturn types tend to be well organized, efficient, patient, dependable, and faithful. Stiff knotty joints, bent middle fingers, long middle phalanges, square tips, and short broad nails combine to reveal obsessive order, methodology, and punctuality. The most self-critical of all types, he habitually must learn to “lighten up and smell the roses”. Traditional music and dry humor helps. Practical, prudent, and persistent, Saturn types become easily frustrated and aggravated when their strategies don’t go according to plan. An overdeveloped sense of responsibility and obligation causes them to feel guilt, shame, and depression. Many have a cynical, sarcastic, or fatalistic sense of humor rooted in a pessimism they’d much prefer to hide. They become extremely defensive or offensive when they’re depressed. Pure types rarely stray from provincial, traditional, or conventional boundaries.

Donald RumsfeldDominant middle-fingered people are often tall, slender, and angular in appearance. They have dark hair, large bones, stern features, and bland complexions. They’re loners; needing private time, including from family and partners. Their prevailing physical sense is smell. Pure types love string instruments and prefer classical music with a tinge of sadness. Eventually, they have physical problems with teeth, knees, ligaments, rheumatism, hardening of the arteries, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, or deafness in the left ear. When the middle finger leans toward the ring finger, there’s a need for privacy and personal space. I guarantee that when Donald Rumsfeld is feeling confined or controlled, he gets cranky and irritable. You can readily see it on his face. A majority of scientists, technical individuals, conservative businessmen, researchers, writers, craftsmen, therapists, night watchman, undertakers, morticians, and derelicts have dominant middle fingers.

Hermit“Father Time” is a strategic planner. In ancient Greece, he was called Chronos. In Roman myth and western astrology, Capricorn is ruled by Saturn. Where structure, discipline, and focus are required, Saturn is always present. At best, he’s healthy, happy, wise, prosperous, and compassionate. At worst, he’s frustrated, controlling, greedy, and self-destructive.

Jesus ChristThe most famous Capricorn of all time was Jesus Christ. Jesus was the first not for profit Prophet. This self-styled Jewish self-help guru would have reformed the business of religion had he stuck around. Who needs codes, dogmas, and doctrines when they’ve got spirituality? Jesus shared God’s essence as he spoke the words “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). Jesus was crucified and martyred for loving too much.

Martin Luther KingDr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1/15/1929 – 4/4/1968) was martyred for his fervent beliefs. A Baptist Minister and passionate Social Rights Activist, Dr. King led the black civil rights movement in the United States from the mid 1950’s until his assassination in 1968. Dr. King’s mission was a pursuit of truth, peace, justice, and equality for all. Dr. King’s dream has become his legacy and a legal holiday.

Mel GibsonCapricorn Mel Gibson irreverently and irresponsibly exploited the dark side of love in his ‘The Passion of the Christ’. Jesus writhed as Mel punished us for torturing him. Maybe Mel can capitalize on Dr. King’s final moments. He can call it, LETHAL WEAPON 666 ~ even more reasons to spread shame, guilt, fear, hate, and terror. Mel would be much less harmful as a used Hummer salesman. He could market ‘already been road-warriored’ models, like worn jeans or distressed furniture.

Abraham LincolnCapricorns want to be number one. Muhammad Ali was King of Boxing. Elvis Presley was King of Rock ‘n Roll. Tiger Woods was Prince of Golf. David Bowie and Rod Stewart are mega-musical prodigies. Daniel Day-Lewis (Taurus / Saturn) played Abraham Lincoln, a pure Saturnian type. Clint Eastwood is a Gemini with dominant middle fingers. Paul Cezanne and Henri Matisse were great Post and Neo-Impressionist French artists. Albert Schweitzer was a famous humanitarian.  Louis Pasteur was the father of pasteurization.

ScroogeMaster criminals ruled by Saturn don’t depend on cleverness like Gemini, or spontaneity like Aries and Sagittarians. Saturn strategizes every move and waits until the time is right. Scrooge is the epitome of Saturn’s stinginess, choosing greed over generosity. Relationships are only important as they relate to profit.

Bernie EbbersGhosts of Christmas past, present, and future haunt Bernard Ebbers. As former CEO of WorldCom, Ebbers contributed to society by making telecommunications competitive. Too bad he compromised his principles to reach his goal of power and worldly achievement. Bernie played both sides against the middle and got caught in the squeeze.

Janet - CapricornJanet is a pragmatist with crooked middle fingers and separated head and life on her dominant hand. This combination of features makes her a very independent freedom loving perfectionist with an overly developed sense of responsibility, obligation, and guilt. There’s always a ‘should’ or ‘supposed to’ in the way of that adventure she wishes she was having. Janet was a high-powered corporate consultant in the publishing industry when I met her and took this picture.

NeptuneDuring the late twentieth century, Uranus revolutionized Capricorn from 1989 to 1996. Political institutions and structures were transformed. The Iron Curtain and Berlin Wall were ripped down. On October 3, 1990, Germany was reunited as the political demarcation between East and West vanished. The Soviet Union disintegrated into fifteen republics in 1991. The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibited discriminating against the disabled.

VoyagerUranus brought the Voyager space probe that successfully explored the outer limits of our solar system. Nelson Mandela was released after 27 years behind bars and successfully galvanized the Anti-Apartheid movement around the globe. Jean Bertrand Aristide, a radical priest, became Haiti’s first freely elected president. Ten months after his election, the military seized control of the government. After Asylum in the USA, Aristide returned to office in 1994, accompanied by 20,000 American troops. Operation Desert Storm liberated Kuwait from the Iraqi invaders. Bosnia declared their independence from Yugoslavia that resulted in a religious civil war pitting Serbs and Croats against Muslims.

Johnny CarsonAt the end of Uranus’s transit, the US and the UN brokered a prickly cease-fire and did what they could to end ethnic cleansing. Representatives from over a hundred countries met in Rio de Janeiro in June of 1992 to discuss how to better preserve the earth. Good intentions haven’t worked. Johnny Carson retired after 30 years of hosting The Tonite Show on NBC TV.

Arafat and RabinExpect the unexpected. PLO leader Yassar Arafat shook hands with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin to try to end hatred. The Irish Republican Army agreed to lay down its arms in exchange for a role in Northern Ireland’s political future. The Brady Bill for gun control was signed into law thirteen years after Brady was shot and paralyzed. The NRA became more powerful than ever. Smoking was banned in New York City restaurants. Women began smoking cigars.

ChernobylWhen the planet Neptune transited the sign of Capricorn from 1984-1998, lines between chemical industries and moral responsibilities dissolved. A gas leak at a Union Carbide plant in India killed over 3,000 people. British scientists pinpointed a hole in the earth’s ozone layer. Two years later in 1987, seeing the hand writing on the wall, fifty-three nations signed a treaty pledging to reduce the number of CFCs in the atmosphere. The most serious nuclear accident in history occurred at Chernobyl. Thirty-one people died instantly. Another 40,000 were later diagnosed with cancer from exposure to radiation. The Exxon Valdez shipwreck was the worst oil spill in history. It contaminated hundreds of miles of Alaska shoreline and killed thousands of creatures.

Hey Monsanto

Monsanto, creator of Agent Orange, PCBs, DDT, and Dioxins, launched their first “Round-up Ready” GMO soybean, which was approved by the FDA in 1994. ‘Frankenfood’ was a focus of environmental activists and comedians on late night TV. Mad Cow disease mysteriously appeared in the UK in 1996. The slim line between science and science fiction was crossed when the first sheep was cloned in Scotland in 1997. The FDA approved a drug called AZT, which was designed to treat AIDS. In 1997 and 1998, El Nino was attributed to bizarre bad weather conditions.

Bill CosbyNeptune transformed the illusion of fatherhood. Bill Cosby was the most popular father in 1984. Saturn was in Scorpio. Bill wasn’t practicing what he was preaching or Saturn wouldn’t have punished him when it returned to Scorpio in 2014. Racial bigots Archie Bunker and Homer Simpson were wildly popular fathers. ‘Married with Children’ offered a warped view of fatherhood. Disney produced the father and son story, ‘The Lion King’. Murphy Brown revealed her powerful animus.

In the world of big business, Ivan Boesky preached virtuosity and honesty and then got busted for insider trading. A frenzy of mergers, acquisitions, and takeovers in the ‘1980s destabilized financial institutions. General Electric purchased media giants NBC and RCA. When the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) collapsed, regulators from 69 countries seized their assets and charged officers who had been hiding substantial losses from investors. History once again is repeating itself as the guys at the top escape scrutiny. Congress closed the House of Representatives Bank in the wake of scandal in 1992.

Ronald Reagan right handNeptune dissolves both political and financial structures. Mikhail Gorbachev reformed the controls that kept the Soviet Union together. Growing concerns over a growing federal deficit catalyzed the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Act. The Reagan deficit soared to 2 trillion dollars (2X 1981). On Black Monday, the stock market suffered a mini-crash with a huge drop in stock prices. Texaco filed the largest bankruptcy in history.

Follow the moneyPluto entered Capricorn in 2009. Ninety-nine percent became aware of the power of one percent. Plutocracy, faulty financial foundations, and deceptive business practices were beginning a never ending journey directly to hell. Commerce, politics, and religion will transform as greed, corruption, and secrets are exposed on all levels of business, government, and religion.

GoogleNostradamus made astrological predictions. His ‘whether’ forecasts for Pluto in Capricorn include the demise of the NY Stock Exchange and the bubble created by the illusion of social security. How can society prepare for widely fluctuating interest rates and inflation? How can we reform broken systems? Cyber-Terrorism can reach into anyone’s computer, cell phone, or electronic devices these days. Revolutionary new ways of managing our energy needs and environment must be implemented on a large scale. Recycling and reuse needs to be more practical and cost effective. More women must have positions of power. The Federal Reserve Bank, a Capricorn, will experience major upheaval. Its purpose was to keep the mega-rich from controlling all the wealth by forcing banks to keep certain percentages of their assets in the Federal Reserve. Neo-plutocrats own the majority of votes in Congress and the Senate.

Declaration of IndependenceAstrologers agree that the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4 1776. There’s a dispute over the USA horoscope as to whether Gemini or Sagittarius is rising. Either way, our Sun, Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury are in the sign of Cancer. As Pluto opposes them, the USA will try even harder to control everyone and everything, but will have great difficulty maintaining economic power and its status as a world leader. The world will see our behavior like short sighted little children. NYC’s charter was signed January 1 1898 at 12:01 am. Pluto conjoined NYC’s Sun in Capricorn in 2013, creating chaos concerning physical and financial infrastructures, public transportation, and corruption. Future world challenges will include hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, droughts, and other unnatural anomalies. The USSR Constitution has Capricorn rising. It promises political and economic upheaval as Pluto highlights where real responsibility begins and accountability ends.  We will all learn the hard way that the bottom line cannot justify the means.

Sagittarius ~ Search for Truth

Sagittarius

“He who dies rich dies disgraced”    Andrew Carnegie

No matter what your sun sign, you may have a Sagittarius nature. Pure types have rectangular palms and short fingers with long straight and strong index fingers that stand away from the hand. Strong index fingers symbolize leadership abilities, pride, self-confidence, spiritual or religious affinities, truthfulness, generosity, and idealism in relationships. Pink coloration under the index finger adds enthusiasm and reveals a desire to make a difference. Hands in general tend to be pinkish and healthy looking with mildly flexible joints and firm elastic skin. Finger joints are not knotty and fingertips tend to be round or conical with loop and whorl fingerprints. They’re enthusiastic, idealistic, and confident. They hate being criticized. They love rich food and fine wine. Good luck and positive thinking are attributed to Sagittarius types.

Sagittarians are irresistible when they believe in themselves. They’re eternal optimists, honest and sincere, with friendly charismatic voices designed to persuade. Frequently accused of observing life through rose colored glasses, they tend to see people and circumstances as they want them to be instead of how they really are. Sagittarians are philosophical, expansive, generous, passionate, principled, proud, truthful, and spiritual. They love travel and take time to explore the sites and seek food adventures when they arrive at a new destination. They’re also nature lovers and naturally healthy types. Their physical problems usually result from overindulging in food and drink. Their dark side can be egoistic, tactless, insincere, judgmental, opinionated, hypercritical, hypocritical, impractical, grandiose, arrogant, dictatorial, vain, gluttonous, or philandering. Many journalists, judges, lawyers, priests, teachers, chefs, and salesmen are Sag types.

RobinRobin has a mixture of Scorpio sun (Feeling) and Sagittarian hands. As you can see from her rectangular palms and short straight fingers, she’s an Intuitive type. She’s generous, honest, and truthful. Her inner Scorpion is strong and she must be vigilant to avoid the imprudent temptations that her Scorpio side so easily attracts. She’s a loving mom, fabulous friend, wonderful cook, incredible quilter, knitter, and an avid gardener. Robin’s huge heart and enthusiasm are contagious.

PegasusBellerophon, master of Pegasus, is a mythic match for Sagittarius, which rules horses. Bellerophon was a likeable fellow; however, he depended on his charm, good looks, and luck to save him when his adventures went sour. He symbolizes inspiration and new ideas, which have to be taken with a grain of salt. Use caution if you’re buying a used car from him. Bellerophon’s hubris was his undoing as he tried to fly to Mount Olympus, home of the gods. Sagittarian types must choose a philosophy that helps them become an integral part of a working society and not a Don Quixote tilting at windmills or a person who has everyone else’s answers.

Sagittarius rules transportation. Sagittarians enjoy speed, taking calculated risks, and looking good. They leave racing to Aries and showing off to Leo. The gods of making cars must shift the paradigm of profit before people. Automotive industries need to be more truthful in their actions and spiritual in their visions. By perpetuating the illusion that expensive overly powerful gas guzzling vehicles are glamorous and sexy, car makers and marketers maintain the delusion that it’s OK to deplete our natural resources and pollute our planet. We don’t need hundreds of horses galloping under our hoods. Cars must be designed for our present and future health. We can profit from higher social and environmental consciousness. As our globe warms and fuel prices skyrocket, more fuel efficient, non-polluting, practical, and economical light weight transportation must happen or we will drive ourselves to extinction.

Look at the consequences of our current transportation paradigm. We can go anywhere at any time in the comfort of our cars. Our real and hidden costs are usurious as we guzzle gas, fight oil wars, deplete precious finite natural resources, and pollute our planet. Carbon monoxide hovers around us. Toxic smog poisons major transportation arteries. Traffic proliferates and coagulates like cholesterol on its way to a coronary. Young, old, tired, depressed, angry, drugged, and drunken drivers clot overcrowded roads like varicose veins connecting the festering infections we call cities. Unless we shift our transportation paradigms, we’re steering ourselves toward a dead end.

During the twentieth century, while Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto transited the sign of Sagittarius, politics, big business, and religion transformed forever.

Sandra D O'ConnorWhen Uranus transited Sagittarius from 1981-1988, political gender was shaken up. Sandra D. O’Connor became the first Woman elected to the Supreme Court. Geraldine Ferraro was the first woman nominated by the Democratic Party for Vice President. Benazir Bhutto became the first female prime minister of a Muslim country in Pakistan’s first free election since 1977.

Ronald Reagan 2George Bush Sr. became the first sitting Vice President elected as president since 1836. President Ronald Reagan initiated “Star Wars”, an absurd and overly expensive national defense idea. IBM introduced the first personal PCs to the marketplace.

Uranus is a symbol for sudden and unexpected upheaval and disaster. AT&T’s monopoly was broken up by the Department of Justice. While Greenpeace was protesting France’s nuclear testing, their flagship Rainbow Warrior was bombed. The space shuttle Challenger exploded on takeoff while millions watched on their TVs in horror.

Salmon_Rushdie_Sagittarius rules publishing and religion. Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini sentenced Salman Rushdie to death after publishing his popular novel The Satanic Verses. Rushdie’s tales of good and evil stimulated riots in India and book burnings in England.

While Neptune transited Sagittarius from 1970 to 1984, the idealism of the 60’s was replaced by pessimism, marked by a lack of trust in national institutions. The war in Vietnam had made many people cynical. The Arab oil embargo of 1973 created a major energy crisis (allegedly teaching the USA not to take energy for granted) and catalyzed the opening of the controversial Alaska pipeline.

Richard NixonNeptune rules false prophets, delusion, deception, and victimization. Richard Nixon became the first President in US history to announce his resignation. New York became the first city in US history to be bailed out of bankruptcy by the federal government. A popular religious paradigm was shifted when the Catholic Church elected its first non-Italian pope in four centuries. Mother Theresa accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in the name of the poor. Televangelist Jerry Falwell founded the Moral Majority in 1979.

Neptune rules chemicals and drugs. The first test-tube baby was conceived out of the womb. It was the beginning of genetic engineering and new horrors for theologians. Environmentally conscious people protested industries that created “Acid Rain”. The ‘Three Mile Island’ fiasco helped derail several nuclear energy projects. The World Health Organization announced an end to smallpox. A new deadly epidemic was officially named AIDS. Crack cocaine became popular.

Pluto transited Sagittarius from 1995 to 2008. Pluto in Sag is a recipe for upheaval and transformation in politics, big business, and religion. Political extremism, corporate greed, religious fundamentalism, and terrorism came into focus across the globe. Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated by a right-wing law student, disrupting the Middle East peace process. Great Britain gave up control of Hong Kong. President Clinton resumed diplomatic relations with communist Vietnam. Hundreds of thousands of Black men flocked to Washington to participate in the million-man march. For the first time in 40 years, Republicans controlled congress. Y2K was not the end of the world.

The sheep are restlessSex scandals rocked the Catholic Church.  The House of Representatives impeached and later acquitted President Clinton for lying about his sexploits. Two students killed themselves after murdering twelve students and a teacher at Columbine High School in Littleton Colorado. The Unabomber was caught and sentenced to life in prison. The Oklahoma City bombing established large-scale terrorism by Americans on our own soil. Governmental power was transformed on 9/11, giving leaders ability to supersede human rights and civil liberties. A large political machine preempted war without world consent. A lair of corporate foxes ruled the hen house while a pack of political wolves became national sheep herders.

Saturn returned to Sagittarius on December 23, 2014, after a 30 year journey through the signs of the zodiac. Astrologers have pondered and prognosticated the effects that Saturn will have over three years while it passes through Sagittarius and into Capricorn around Christmas of 2017. Energy, transportation, communications, food industries, housing, healthcare, law, politics, and religious structures will be affected by Saturn’s transit through Sagittarius. Saturn is about taking responsibility and rules big business and bureaucracy. Our external problems are symptoms of false philosophical and ideological paradigms. Our global economy must be reformed in ways that are sustainable for all people. There will likely be a shakeup and shakedown of world leaders. I’m praying for a rebirth of nobility, dignity, integrity, and ethics.

HOW I LOST MY SANITY

round self portrait

“The lips of wisdom are closed, except to the ears of understanding.” Hermes

Boundaries of TemptationYou may think you know your dark side or you may know someone who has been devoured by theirs, but until you’ve been seduced by madness, breached your sacred boundaries, and tasted the forbidden fruit; you won’t experience the boundless breadths and desperate depths of darkness in your psyche or know your abyss.

While purging my darkness in Scorpio nine months ago, I began writing a post for my blog about a shadowy experience of over thirty years ago. That tale has morphed into an illustrated novella, based in fact, but camouflaged and exaggerated by fiction. I hope you wonder what actually happened. I’m only promoting the first of ten weekly episodes. Sign up for more if you like it. Episode two won’t automatically appear in your feed.

This is a tale of hands and of how I tempted fate and lost my sanity. My story is painted in black and white with insanity as black and sanity as white. Oppositions fuel our awareness as our allegories guide us from our whitest whites to our blackest blacks. Love and hate are extremes of the same essence with like and dislike represented by varying degrees of gray illuminating the halls of opposites. When does pleasure stop and pain begin? Where does happiness end and misery begin?

One bleak November evening, as I was leafing through the magazine section of the Tartarus Times, a display ad caught my eye ~ ‘Forensic Psychiatric Center Seeking Industrial Designer’. I’d been an industrial designer. The concept of combining function with beauty while creating something useful and meaningful had inspired me to sign up. I believed an industrial design degree would enable me to manifest my innovative ideas for sustainable energy and transportation. Many of my fellow student designers were searching for that ‘pet rock’ that would transform them into instant millionaires. I too wanted to earn my fortune, but hoped it would happen from working on meaningful projects. I had no interest in fashion for the sake of fashion and hated waste.

Overly optimistic, idealistic, and ahead of my time, I was soon to learn the harsh realities of self-serving economics and unchecked capitalism. Sadly, producers and sellers get more money for fashion, hype, and soundbites than for good functional design. Because of my own pressing financial needs, I adapted to serving my clients’ basic needs and conformed to the unnatural practice of wasting natural resources and polluting our planet in the name of convenience and thrift. I spent too much of my time and energies depleting natural resources and polluting our planet’s body, circulatory, and respiratory systems in the service and glory of ego, money, and fashion.

How much would I have to compromise my ethical principles to make a decent living? How much grayer was behaving in ways that work than being real? Which shades of gray exchanged money for values and traded thinking for feelings? It became too easy to analyze, rationalize, and compartmentalize my creations as useful, profitable, and valuable. I no longer thought about their final destination as landfill decoration.

One day, I had an epiphany. As I perused the isles of Bloomingdales’ to see how my products were being displayed and merchandized, I realized that waste streams were already chockfull of award winning design without mine. If none of my products existed, it would not make a real difference to anyone but me. I accepted responsibility for my insights and changed my focus from industrial to environmental design. I soon became known as the ‘Guru of Garbage’ for my innovative uses of recycled materials.

New York NewsdayMy ‘Designing with Garbage’ and ‘Eco- Design’ workshops and classes at local design colleges became popular. As an expert in materials and manufacturing processes, an industrial designer, and a member of purgatory’s solid waste advisory board, I spoke about recycling and reuse for the tiniest of stipends at design colleges and for free at environmental conferences, local grassroots groups, and community board meetings.

Clients would ask, “Why’s it so expensive?”  And then exclaim, “It’s only garbage!” Everyone loves a good cause until it’s time to pay for it. Very few people were actually practicing what they were preaching. I rationalized that something was better than nothing as I was hired by manufacturers and marketers to facilitate their appearances, a practice known as ‘greenwashing’ (guilt-free polluting). I always had too much to do and never enough time or money to do it right. No matter how hard I tried to be frugal, not having enough money got in my way. I’d gone from planning to buy my private jet to trying to figure out what to do with a bottle cap. I could no longer afford to bankroll my principles or preach to the converted for pennies.

Before and After

Pallet landfill to conference room

Sitting on compacted cansDestiny compelled me to be responsible for my values. Ambition impelled me to create something of significance.  My astrology fit perfectly. My Leo Zenith is closely straddled by my ninth house Saturn (guru) and my tenth house Pluto (garbage). The shoe fit, so I decided to reuse, recycle, and recreate it. That process was a lot more challenging than I had anticipated. Being the ‘Guru of Garbage’ had been an accident. The media was inspired by my creative attempts at recycling trash. They gave me a catchy name to sell more advertising. I enjoyed the name recognition, but needed to get paid.

I decided to tackle the mother of all garbage, psychic garbage. Instead of spending my time and energy on material concerns, I’d go directly to the source and wrestle with subjective matters like behavior, values, thinking, feelings, will power, health, work, relationships, marriage, creativity, death, philosophy, purpose, dreams, fears, and spirituality. My favorite obsession and part time avocation became my vocation as I began practicing astrology, palmistry, and tarot.

Being a psychic garbage man was more financially lucrative, emotionally fulfilling, and fun than transforming physical waste. My perpetual quest for physical and spiritual enlightenment and sustainability was morphing into an intriguing journey of self-discovery that would inadvertently guide me down the dusky path to darkness and lunacy. I wondered what it might take to awaken my insanity and was soon to find out.

Criminal minds fascinated me. I knew from my study of astrology that each of twelve sun signs has its own unique criminal style. Here are some gross generalizations. Gemini / Mercury rules con artists and pickpockets. Taurus / Venus commits sex crimes and breaches of trust from petty theft to grand larceny. Aries / Mars loves warfare and commit crimes of passion. Sagittarius / Jupiter wears white collars. Capricorn / Saturn rules master criminals. Aquarius / Uranus rules arsonists, terrorists, and unexpected bad shit happening. Pisces / Neptune rules drug dealers and users. Scorpio / Pluto rules seduction, rape, and murder and lustily awaits you at your final destination.

Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto revolve very slowly around our sun. They represent the collective unconscious. We personalize our outer planets through their relationships with our inner plants. Outer planetary pictures provide a karmic backdrop for past and future generations of actors and actresses striving to learn their roles. Life is a play of plays. Unconscious creates drama. Subconscious directs plot. Consciousness is stage manager. Sun enlightens. Moon reflects. Mercury connects. Venus senses. Mars energizes. Jupiter expands. Saturn limits. ‘God’ is Master Playwright.

As a life-long student of craziness, I coveted this opportunity to serve criminally insane people. I might never get another chance. Back in college, I minored in bizarre psycho- ideologies and isms. Being an active member of a twice weekly study group at a Gestalt psychology institute for two years whetted my appetite for more. Now I had a chance to explore genuine craziness incarnate. I imagined the weird hands, astrology, and odd people I’d meet and held my breath in anxious anticipation as I set up my interview.

forensic psychiatric hospitalAs I drove north along the Styx River Parkway, I felt like Don Quixote applying for his first real job. Approaching my destination, I could see three ominous- looking beige brick buildings rising starkly into the distant sky like dead poplar trees. They stood on the western banks of ‘Cuckoo Island’ in the middle of the Styx River between Tartarus and Purgatory. Two buildings were psychiatric outpatient hospitals. The third was a forensic psychiatric hospital bounded by high electric fences, lethal courses of razor wire, and panoptic video surveillance. A two‑story block structure on the right housed sheltered workshops for mentally and developmentally disabled people and an alcohol detox center. A fleet of city garbage trucks and a truck drivers’ training course was on the other side of the island. Purgatory’s sewage was treated there. The whole damned island was devoted to one form of waste treatment or another.

I entered the premises through guarded locked doors, metal detectors, a bag inspection station, faded beige paint, and buzzing fluorescent lights that zapped my vital essences. Hospital staff appeared to be the dregs of humanity’s helpers. They wobbled and limped, were scarred and splotched, and gazed silently in hopeless desperation with myopic eyes—even when they were smiling. I hoped it wasn’t contagious. It was.

As Director of Rehab, Dolores was beaten down by too many years in state service. Her sad name complemented her careworn face. A telltale twitch made me wonder whether she was actually smiling or frowning. Her unhealthy looking teeth were yellowed from too many cigarettes and too much coffee. A deep raspy voice coughed her words.

Respiratory, pulmonary, and circulatory problems could be seen in her bulbous whitish nails. Her square palms and short square fingers revealed a practical nature, while her dry, reddish, dishpan skin had weathered many storms that seemed to endlessly arrive from every direction. I was concerned she was ineffective. Despite our differences, we liked each other.

I squirmed awkwardly as I learned that the hospital actually needed an industrial arts teacher. Human resources had made a mistake. I wanted to experience this population, but I was overqualified. Dolores encouraged me to take the job anyway. She painted alluring pictures of my designing vocational programs. I’d work directly with patients by lecturing and giving ongoing classes and workshops. I’d have access to patient records and treatment plans. I might be even able to attend treatment team meetings with psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. It felt too good to be true. It was.

Dolores was impressed with my qualifications and enthusiasm. I never mentioned any ulterior motives when I told her I was prepared to commit selflessly to public service at this point in my life. I’d start at the bottom. ‘Grade 12′ was a pay scale similar to being fresh out of high school. I couldn’t afford a full time position and didn’t want one. Dolores assured me I could work half-time. She’d find someone else to fill the other half of the position. She promised full public employee health benefits. I accepted.

Stay tuned to meet the rehab staff in episode two.

Gemini and Hands

Gemini

GEMINI and HANDS

MAY 23 – JUNE 21

Gemini is the consummate communicator of the zodiac. She’s the most social of all types. He’s frequently accused of being an impractical dreamer because he loves ideas so much. She can detach herself from mundane reality and be objective about anything. He overvalues his intellect and undervalues his own and everyone else’s emotion. She feels threatened when her opinions are ignored. He can accept your point of view, even when he disagrees with you. She’s gets mad when her ideas are challenged without good reason. He’s easily distracted when he chooses not to be responsible for his decisions. She resists focus, discipline, and structure. Gemini loves to be mentally free.

Gemini rules hands. It also governs our respiratory and nervous systems. Gemini types are the most adaptable of all thinking (air) types. They have more flexibility in their joints, thumbs, and fingers than Aquarian or Libran types. Their life, head, and heart lines tend to split at their ends. In general, I’ve found a lot of line splits in duel signs. Dominant Libra splits at the end of the head line. Cancer and Pisces heart lines split.

Healthy Geminis have straight and strong pinkie fingers. They persuade you with logic and good sense. Long ring fingers make them even more attractive and irresistible. Gemini hands are firm with pink elastic skin. If you see yellow, there’s probably some nastiness going on somewhere. The trickster is good at hiding his dark side.

You don’t have to be a Gemini to have Gemini hands. It’s very powerful when a person’s sun sign matches their hand type. I’ve read a lot of famous people with sun signs and hands that match. It’s impossible to foretell from a natal astrology chart what symbolism will dominate a character. A sun, moon, stellium of planets, dominant house, or powerful aspects between certain planets or points in a horoscope may or may not determine what the native chooses to embrace. Hands can oppose a horoscope. As we embrace our strengths or choose darkness, our thinking and circumstances will be revealed in the morphology and topography of our hands over time.

I have Scorpio rising. Pluto closely conjuncts Saturn on my Leo midheaven. My eighth house is packed with Gemini planets. Chiron is conjunct my Scorpio ascendant. Based on my horoscope, my behavior should be Scorpio. I’m very Gemini. That’s my hand above. Scorpio is very powerful on my inside. It’s no wonder I’m obsessed with getting people to look at their hands. So much valuable information can be seen at the ends of our arms. All we have to do is learn to see the help in our helping hands.

Gemini is the most youthful and clever of all types. John F. Kennedy, youngest and first Catholic president was Peter Pan. Jackie was Wendy. Marilyn Monroe was Tinkerbell. John was a rogue and womanizer reputed for being raunchy and funny. The charming “Prince of Camelot” suffered depressing physical fatigue from Addison’s disease. The public never saw the pain in his joints. Kennedy wrote Profiles of Courage, which won a 1957 Pulitzer Prize. According to John’s biographers, his greatest challenge was not to choose winning over high moral standards.

Peter PanOther Peter Pans were Pat Boone, who sold 18 million records by age 24. Tony Curtis was the ‘Great Imposter’. Bob Dylan sang “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right”. Judy Garland was Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Henry Kissinger was the multi-lingual secretary of state under Richard Nixon. Joan Rivers was a comedian. Gene Wilder was Willy Wonka. Michael Jackson lived in Neverland.

finger lengthA pinkie is the shortest finger. If a tip is longer than the crease between the first and second phalange of the ring finger, it’s considered long. If shorter, it’s short. Hermes (Mercury) was the shortest god. A dominant pinkie fingered person is short in stature (Ed Harris) with a slender body and face. She has expressive hands, dark hair, and penetrating eyes with crow’s feet in the corners. He’s very youthful. Men often have thin beards (Johnny Depp).

Hermes loves children. He’s childlike and androgynous. Hermes and Aphrodite had a fling that created Hermaphrodite. Many dominant Hermes (may not know or admit it) are bi-sexual. David Bowie is a Capricorn with powerful Hermes. Prominent pinkie people prefer small musical instruments that require a lot of dexterity. Music makes sense because hearing is their physical sense. In real life, Peter marries Wendy or a parent. Someone’s got to be practical. Caitlyn (Bruce) Jenner is Peter and Wendy.

Hermes health issues relate to their nervous and bronchial systems. Hermes can have problems with headaches, thyroid glands, memory loss, and speech impediments. I’ve been coping with Tinnitus (ringing in ears). Hermes makes great lawyers, politicians, doctors, orators, writers, engineers, teachers, accountants, bankers, and shopkeepers.

A cultivated Gemini is a social and intuitive prodigy and a great judge of character. Pinkie fingers reveal the ability to communicate and be truthful. Early family dynamic is seen in how a pinkie is set on the hand. If it’s very short or low set, trust may be a major issue. Some women with low set pinkies have told me that they have a hard time having real orgasms. They fake them and keep their secret. Their greater challenge is learning to trust themselves and others enough to have real intimacy. Lengths and proportions of fingers, knots, nails, and shapes of tips reveal language, family, and sexual potentials.

curved pinky fingerWould you buy a used car from this guy? Gemini liabilities are trickiness, fickleness, nervousness, restlessness, and superficiality. Many preachers on soapboxes, pickpockets, and con artists have inwardly curving pinkies. There are also many wonderful incredible people with curved pinkies.

I work at special events with great magicians. These tricksters have a Mercurial nature. They astound audiences by deceiving the eye and mind of the beholder. I’ve watched amazing tricks over and over again and am constantly blown away. One friend, a close- up magician, sometimes works the lines of guests at special events that are waiting for my five minute hand readings. I overhear people asking him, “Is this real magic?” My friend says, “No, these are tricks. If you want real magic, go see Mark.” The real magic of reading hands is not the science and art of palmistry, but knowing oneself and others.

Pinky ringGold and diamond pinkie rings are frequently found on acquisitive people who sublimate their sexual energies to accomplish something of value. I once examined the hands of fifty men born to wealthy families in the eighties. It seemed paradoxical to me that they all had a tiny bottom phalange on their pinkie. Money for the sake of money will never be a motivation for their major life choices. Family, friends, and good causes will fuel their values and good intentions.

I plan to feature family and friends in future posts. Meet my mother.

“Eighty years of age does not seem old to me. Old is when one is again dependent as we were in infancy – needing help as a constant to feed and care for oneself. Who knows, I may die from an illness before I ever get old, then on to my next adventure.” Mom was eighty-three when Hermes gracefully and graciously escorted her to death.

mom with hands upMom was a consummate Gemini. Born a day before the summer solstice, she pondered her intentions, roles, and script until her last breath. She cared deeply for family and friends. For the last several years of her life, she quietly battled her mortality via metastasized breast cancer and a mass of malignant tumors in her liver that sucked her energy and tested her fundamental truths. Never complaining, mom’s endless encouragement, noble idealism, eternal optimism, and refreshingly ruthless honesty always inspired me to remain true to myself.

Bobie and ZadieMom considered herself lucky. She chose to lead a worthwhile and productive life. Her square palms and widely spread long fingers belonged to the youngest child of hard working Russian Jewish immigrants who cherished each other and their five children. Mom’s long strong index fingers symbolize her ambition to achieve. She was the first in her family to attend and graduate from college. Her family struggled financially, but always felt rich. Mom’s father (my Zadie) was the most generous man I’ve ever known. He had abundant warmth and good spirits and loose change for everyone. I remember in early childhood, Zadie showing up at mealtimes with some poor person he’d met on the street. There was always more than enough delicious homemade food for all. I cherish my memories of my Bobie and Zadie.

DCF 1.0

Mom’s two oldest sisters died tragically when she was young. Her surviving older sister, Bea, was a renegade. Mom was the brilliant talented young princess who could do no wrong. Bea (Sagittarius) was brilliant and talented too, but Bea did what Bea wanted to do. At eighty in this picture, she’s still sassy with her healthy earthy intuitive hands.

When Bobie was very old, her Alzheimer’s forced us to place her in a home where she could receive constant care. It was sad for everyone. Mom and Bea visited her often. Mom’s greatest fear was losing her mind. Bobie had no idea who mom was. That scared the crap out of her. One day, Bea visited Bobie. Bobie asked, “Who are you?” Bea replied, “I’m your daughter.”  “I have a daughter?” Bobie inquired. “You have two daughters” said Bea. “Which one are you?” asked Bobie. “The bad one!” exclaimed Bea. Bobie remembered, “Oh Bea!”  Bea eventually ended up like Bobie.

Cousin Richie

Richie (Libra) ~ TANGLEMAN ~ Bea’s middle son

Mom was blessed in friendship. She attributed her ability to make friends easily to having to move frequently in childhood. With so many changes involving multiple schools, mom had to adapt and develop social skills. She fulfilled her friend potentials. When you examine the balls of mom’s thumbs, you see long lines parallel to her lifeline. Mom maintained intimate friendships for her whole life. She and her friends faithfully loved each other through their joys, tragedies, children, grandchildren, heart attacks, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Diabetes, Cancer, and many other dis-eases of old age.

mom and dad honeymoonThe best thing our mother did for herself and her children was to marry our father. Dad spotted mom at a bus stop. It was love at first sight. She was a twenty-one year old virgin princess. He was a twenty-five year old former bad boy, turning good, just back from the horrors of World War II.

She played Eurydice to his Orpheus. Dad (Pisces) literally sang his ideas and tunes. Mom would craft his lyrics and refine his tunes as she accompanied his singing on the piano. We kids thought they were nuts, but our parents thought enough of themselves to peddle their wares down Tin Pan Alley, hoping for the next bestselling 45 rpm record. They promoted their favorite song “The Crack of the Carbine”, a tragic tale of a young murdered white tail doe, her homeless fawn, and a remorseful hunter. Dad sang it so passionately and mournfully that I had to fight off the tear in the corner of my eye. Our parents’ tragic mistake was hiring a professional demo singer, a hunter without a soul.

Dad was sentimental and sent mom a romantic anniversary card every month of their marriage until he suddenly and unexpectedly died at age fifty-four. We found albums full of them that mom had organized and saved. Dad also left short love notes around the house for mom to find and always had plenty of gifts and hugs for everyone else. He left mom a 3 X 5 notecard on the day he died ~ I LOVE YOU. Mom laminated it in plastic and placed it in a special spot on her dresser where she would always see it.

I was conceived on my parent’s wedding night and born nine months and one day later. Mom wanted natural childbirth; however, after fighting with me for thirty-six hours, the time had come for me to be cut out. I needed my horoscope. A natal chart is a mother’s transits at the exact moment and location of birth. My mother was inches from dying. She spent several weeks convalescing. I don’t remember bonding with her. When I first began to explore astrology, I hired a famous astrologer for my maiden reading. “This is a death chart”, she told me. She reflected many interesting things about my character, patterns, and habits. What I walked away with was this, “You will die and be reborn many times until you learn to fully love and let go of fear”. OK. I accept. What’s next?

When I was forty, I hired Dr. Laurie Nadel, a psychologist to take me back in time. She’d written a book, The Sixth Sense, on past life regression and was well known for her work in the field. Laurie encouraged me to visualize my life as a tunnel with a series of lights going backward through time. As I journeyed back, my job was to turn on the lights wherever they were out. I needed to jog my subconscious memory for that. After an hour or so, I arrived somewhere between age two and three. The tunnel was black. As I began turning those lights on, I found myself sitting on a tiny wooden potty, not needing to have a bowel movement, but still making grunting noises while my mother was concurrently teaching me to read. No one could ever accuse mom of being unambitious or inefficient. I’ll bet I was the first boy on my block to be out of diapers and reading at the same time. Mom set a timer on a variety of occasions (with threat of punishment) to help me achieve tasks that needed to be completed in a timely fashion. In her defense, with my highly flexible thumbs and fingers (my dominant thumb became stiff as I aged), I was talented, but also the most unstructured, undisciplined, and unfocused kid on the block. Peter Pan doesn’t like restrictions. I never did get to past lives in that session.

Dad with his kidsWhen I was four, my brother, Gary (Pisces with Libra hands) was born. At seven, Jennifer (Taurus with Aquarius hands) arrived. Mom said, “Parents make their biggest mistakes on their first”. That was true for me. Mom considered raising her children the greatest accomplishment in her life. At twenty, I confronted her to let her know that I wasn’t perfect and that she had made plenty of mistakes. Here is her response.

“My mistakes were not intentional. I’m sorry for anything I did which caused you any harm. I tried my best to be a good parent. You’ll understand when you’re a parent. You’re an adult now. You must grow up and get past whatever holds you back and be as healthy and happy as you can be.” She was right. What could I say? I forgave and thanked her. Gary and Jennifer were spared my most challenging lessons. Fortunately, we’ve all turned out well in ways that matter most to all of us.

Mom was a cultivated Gemini. The unearned princess became a self-appointed Queen. Mom’s friends and family accepted and supported her highness. Like Athena, mom ruled with strength, courage, dignity, and nobility. I was ten years old when mom read ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’ by Victor Frankl. It powerfully reinforced what she already knew and confirmed her most important value in life, which was her understanding that while she couldn’t always control what happened to her, she had the power to choose what she thought, felt, and did about it. “Whatever happens to you”, she said to me, “Whether you’re going out in the rain with or without an umbrella or going to the electric chair screaming or with dignity, you have the ability to choose your behavior”.

My family was like a 1950’s TV sitcom. ‘Mother Knows Best’. Mom was an ‘at home’ mom during our formative years, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t work. She was a freelance gag writer for The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, and Family Circus (weekly comics in syndicated newspapers). She also wrote articles for women’s magazines. Mom was a wiz at crossword puzzles, jingles, or saying something in fifty words or less. I remember her winning about fifty contests one year. Some were national. The rewards were small.

Aunt RuthMom was a daunting scrabble player and the most formidable opponent for the Queen of Scrabble in our family, dad’s sister, Aunt Ruth. Ruth has a strong independent pinkie on her right hand and long practical head lines. She always gave me birthday presents like plain underwear and sox. I treasure her and Uncle Sam’s memory, and my cousins Shirley, Roz, and Max…

Check out the strong family resemblances and hands. The biggest differences are in hand flexibility, consistency, and elasticity of skin which you can’t see in the picture.

Mom as poster child at 77Even in the direst of circumstances, mom had a sense of humor. While lying in her hospital bed with tubes going in and out of her, she said to me, “What worries me most is how nice everyone is to me. Do they know something I don’t?” Jennifer warned, “You’re not allowed to die until you finish raising my (teenage) kids”. She joked about buying mom’s casket at Costco. Mom loved the idea. My brother said, “I’ll start worrying when you stop putting on your makeup”. He threatened to taxidermy her and promised to consign her to a corner in his living room if she didn’t stick around. In intensive care, the doctor told us that in all his years, he had never had a patient who was so sick and so determined not to look like it. Wheeling mom around the hospital, people thought I was her husband. I’d say “Thanks for the compliment, but I’m her father”. “Pleased to meet you”, they’d say. It’s never too late to embarrass your dying mother who’s still 39 at 83. Some things never change.

Mom's exercise ball videoTo get a real taste for mom’s Gemini personality, watch her exercise ball video. She was 78. It was made in response to my sister sending her the ball. Though the quality isn’t great, I guarantee the humor!

Dad's commercialsIf the definition of a genius is an average student with a Jewish mother, ours was father (Pisces). It’s impossible for me to show mom’s humor without sharing dad’s antics.

Aries

“Millionaires don’t consult the stars, billionaires do.”  J.P. Morgan

J.P. Morgan

John Pierpont Morgan, Sun, Venus, and Pluto in Aries (April 17 1837) formed the banking house of Drexel Morgan & Co., later renamed J.P. Morgan & Co. His father, Junius Spencer Morgan was the powerful financier who loaned $50-million to France during the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71). Aries rules Iron. After purchasing Andrew Carnegie’s steel operation for $400 million, J.P. waved his Magical Martian Wand over raw materials, manufacturing, mass transit, and banking. J.P. was a plutocrat in power.

AladdinYou don’t have to have an Aries sun to be an Aries type. All intuitive types have rectangular palms and short fingers. Aries types have pink puffy bumps bulging where the thumb meets the hand. Their well-developed percussions (under pinkie) and firm consistent elastic skin, quickly returns to normal when pushed or pulled. Pink skin color energizes. Red pressurizes. Warrior hands are redder. Aries head and life lines separate at their beginning. Wider gaps between head and heart lines represent more independent, freedom loving, and rebellious individuals. When the head and life lines are intertwined, there’s much more inertia. The hand pictured belongs to a real life Aladdin. Click here for his story.

feeling for consistency and elasticity

Aries are the most courageous and adventurous of all types. They’re natural heroes and inspired risk takers. Their passion is contagious and optimism eternal. They never run out of doors to knock on because they don’t take rejection personally. They’re ready and willing to compete with anyone at any time and place. These autonomous freedom lovers detest bureaucrats and hate criticism. Very low set thumbs were meant to quest for holy grails and champion underdogs. They crusade relentlessly until their objectives are realized. Rising to worthy causes brings a lot of personal satisfaction and fulfillment.

Aries is not a detail person. As an Intuitive type, he’s conceptual. When he gets bogged down in mundane tasks like paperwork or bookkeeping, he gets bored and restless. He’s easily frustrated, so it’s best to stay out of his way if you can’t help him. His most important challenges are being patient, trusting his intuition, setting sensible goals, and building sound structures on solid foundations. Mars rules executives, military leaders, soldiers, policemen, firemen, salesmen, surgeons, barbers, and butchers. He’s a potent archetype if you work with sharp tools and / or are unafraid of blood.

Aries symbol
marsEveryone has Aries in his or her symbolism. Aries is Greek. Ares rules Aries as it rises at the birth of spring. Mars is his Roman version. As an invincible warrior and lusty lover, the Roman god of war is symbolized by an erect penis. Built to match, he has a strong athletic body, dominant chest, and rock hard head. He isn’t called ram for nothing. Joanna, my life partner, is Aries with Venus in Taurus rising. I call her ‘RamBull’. I’m a Gemini. She calls me ‘a piece of work in progress’.

Aries types have amazing resilience and an innate ability to bounce back, always landing on their feet. Their strong sense of inner strength, courage, and persistence make them formidable foes. Aries most important job in most of us is to conquer our procrastination, overcome our inertia, and help us take action. Aries potential physical problems include inflammations, fevers, headaches, and high blood pressure.

Xena and Mulan are anima with dominant animus. Aries types are descendants of heroes like King Theseus of Athens, Jason and the Argonauts, Joan of Arc, Robin Hood, and their popular eastern cousin, Aladdin, orphaned son of the king of thieves, handsome adolescent street rat, a diamond in the rough, destined to become a prince.

Al GoreAl Gore is an Aries. His rectangular palms and short fingers reveal a link between his persuasive personality and his Aries Sun. Al’s Mars, Saturn, and Pluto are in Leo. He has abundant inspiration and plenty of motivation to transform energy and politics. When charged with a bolt of lightning from his Jupiter in Sagittarius, he can sell just about anything. Aries and Mars rule Energy and War. Sagittarius and Jupiter rule Publicity, Publishing and Politics. Billions of individuals are manipulated and controlled by energy, war, and politics.

Al Gore’s rectangular hand shape, short fingers, and long index finger revitalize his ambition and egocentricity. As a modern version of Jason and the Golden Fleece, Al and his Argonauts bagged the coveted Nobel Peace Prize while opening masses of minds to the hazards of Global Warming. As a conceptual thinker, Al loves the idea part of his process best. His strength is in his ability to see the big picture. He has no time for details because he has no aptitude or patience for them. Al needs to pour his inspiration and passion into the essence of his reasoning. Once he knows what he must do, Al will acquire the facts to make the case for his cause. As a man of great influence and privilege, Al must sagely survey his personal footprint and practice what he preaches.

Colin PowellU.S. ex-Secretary of State, ex-General Colin Powell is a pure Aries with Sun and Mercury in Aries (April 5, 1937). His rectangular palms, short fingers, and widely separated life and headline are the embodiment of King Theseus of Athens. Theseus escorted Jason on his quest for the Golden Fleece. He defeated the dreaded Minotaur (Saddam Hussein, a Taurus) and united the warring Greek factions under his rule. Secretary Powell’s commanding personality persuaded Americans to keep the faith while we invaded Iraq. He believed he could make a real difference, but ended up being goldenly fleeced by the Bush administration. As the Emperor pulled the wool over our eyes, he proudly wore Colin Powell’s noble charisma, flawless credibility, and ethical principles on the front lines of international diplomacy. Colin Powell’s largest battles are yet to come as he approaches the end of his life and wages war between his personal loyalties and his honesty, integrity, and dignity. A true hero, he must cleanse his legacy by shining the blinding light of absolute truth on the many shades of gray in his life.

Kitty BrazeltonKitty Brazelton is a Libra, artist, composer, and professor of music at Bennington College. Her students and colleagues love and admire her. Dominant air and fire make Kitty smart, resilient, and feisty. She’s mother of and friend to a unique and charismatic 23 year old named Rosie.

Here are a few comments from Kitty’s peers that fit her Aries personality like a glove.

Kitty’s a mover and a shaker in the downtown scene; a singer, bandleader, and composer of striking originality.”  Experimental music icon John Zorn

“Few composers are as uninhibited at saying exactly what they want to say.”  Gramaphone

“There are few musical styles and genres she hasn’t absorbed or embraced. You might wonder how someone’s musical appetite can be quite so voracious, but the results are anarchic, wacky, and hard to resist.” WIRE MAGAZINE

One very important lesson Mars must learn is that enthusiasm and positive energy won’t make the impossible possible. Kitty chose a creative and very practical life partner. Too bad he was contradictory, had chronic control issues, and wielded his critical nature like a Samurai swordsman. They fought and shared a lot of art and music while raising a highly imaginative kid for eighteen years. Low set curved pinkies reveal how she lasted so long. She won the occasional battle, but always lost the war because she had a compulsive need to make the peace. She pretended her marriage was better than it was by compartmentalizing, analyzing, and rationalizing her feelings and fantasy.

Ancient warrior cultures ritually practiced their lustiest mating rituals from late June to late July to seed future generations of Aries warriors. Aries rules Germany, England, and Japan. Hitler planned an Aryan race. The English expanded their influence by barbarizing and colonizing the globe. Japan was atom bombed during World War II. Japan’s warriors fight battles in commerce, communications, transportation, and electronics. Mars rules raw physical energy, sports, law enforcement, and military.

Largest of energy giants, XX is an Aries with its first trade March 25 1920. A predatory power broker must shift its greedy paradigms and embrace philosophical and spiritual transformation. Our earth’s creative juices were meant to be shared by all. Mom’s blood has enabled us to achieve a very high standard of living by heating our homes, fueling our transportation, and providing us with products that make our lives easier. Unseen lakes and ponds of mom’s magical elixir are plundered from their holy sanctuaries, then wasted in disposable plastic packaging and squandered in gas guzzling vehicles. Why must hundreds of horses gallop under our hoods?

XX sells mom’s alchemy to us while efficiently and profitably pumping it from her natural reservoirs into pipelines and artificial tanks that lead to our financial umbilical cords and personal containers. Our world economy and planetary good health are at stake. XX must be guardian for, not sole owner of mom’s soul. XX must not become XXX.

Our energy needs require prompt consciousness and conscience. The Arab oil embargo of 1973 was supposed to teach us not to take Mom’s precious essences for granted. We must learn to devalue our vanity, curb our wasteful habits, and embrace a sustainable energy conserving culture. From jumbo jets to disposable plastic bags, oil has lubricated our needs and desires and greased the psyches of promoters and politicians who pollute our political process by providing plutocrats with permission to plunder our planet wherever, whenever, however, and forever.

It’s no surprise our most important priority is to protect energy sources. Military is our most voracious energy vampire. Bloody wars are waged and financial fortunes flourish because plutocrats are our real leaders. Their greed and wars torture our souls and the soul of our planet. They guzzle our vital essences as they suck our blood and the blood of our fathers, brothers, and children.

Uranus changes sign every seven years. In Aries, Uranus brought fierce individualism, pioneering spirit, abundant energy, and limitless financial resources to bring concepts to fruition. It was the only outer planet to transit the sign of Aries in the twentieth century (1927 – 1935). Uranus invigorated the collective psyche through revolutionary and technological changes. Here are my favorite picks from the last Uranus in Aries era.

Physics and astronomy created the “Big Bang” theory of an ever-expanding universe.

The Neutron was discovered.

King Kullen was the first supermarket (opened in Queens) in New York.

Wonder Bread and homogenized milk were introduced.

The first Laundromat opened in Fort Worth Texas.

The flashbulb was invented and marketed.

The 3M Company introduced transparent Scotch Tape.

Nylon fiber was created.

The first plastics were synthesized in Britain.

Bell Laboratories developed stereophonic sound.

A German ophthalmologist pioneered the first contact lens.

The first drive-in movie theatre opened in New Jersey.

The model A replaced the model T Ford.

The first air-conditioned office building in the US opened in San Antonio Texas.

The jet engine was patented.

Charles Lindbergh made the first solo flight from New York to Paris.

America was captivated when Lindbergh’s 20-month-old son was kidnapped.

Mao Tse-Tung began his `22 years in the wilderness’ where he developed guerrilla warfare tactics that ultimately conquered China.

Leon Trotsky was expelled from the communist party.

The federal government entered the field of hydroelectric power with Boulder Dam.

The first all talking motion picture, The Jazz Singer, starring Al Jolson, revolutionized the film industry. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was born.

The stock market crashed, forcing people to re-examine their values and institutions.

Uranus completed its eighty-four year cycle in the spring of 2011 as it turbulently returned to Aries to crumble regimes, topple demagogues, ignite cities, and fuel the Arab Spring that spread across the Mid-East. Devastating earthquakes in Japan forever changed how governments look at nuclear power policies. Protestors in Spain set the stage for Occupy Movements in New York and London. Osama Bin Laden was killed. His sighting appeared on Twitter before it was officially announced by the Whitehouse. WikiLeaks raised our consciousness of government secrets and conspiracies.

Mars is the blood, guts, and gore of war where psyches are devoured by passion, lust, and hatred. Uranus and Mars is an explosive combination. Combined with the darkness of Saturn and Pluto, that’s a prescription for MPTSD (mass post-traumatic stress disorder). The “Big Bang” theory has come a long way since the first Neutron was discovered. We must see where supermarkets, laundromats, homogenized milk, Wonder Bread, Scotch tape, plastics, and the Model T have gotten us.

Here’s an Arian idea of how to better manage partisan political corruption and war.

The vernal equinox is a great day for political hand-to-hand combat on “Reality TV”. Partisan Congressmen, Senators, and Governors will be issued clubs and knives. Bipartisan candidates are exempt. Terminators welcome. “Hasta la vista baby”

Aquarius

AQUARIUS   JANUARY 21 – FEBRUARY 18

“It is easier to live through someone else than to become complete yourself.”

Betty Friedan (Feb 4, 1921 – Feb 4, 2006) died on her 85th birthday. Betty reformed women’s rights with her book, The Feminine Mystique. She powerfully influenced the whole women’s movement. As founder of NOW (National Organization for Women), she organized the first International Feminist Congress in 1973. A true Aquarian, Betty’s war cry was “Make policy not coffee”.

Aquarius imageMany people think Aquarius is a water sign. They see a water bearer and a symbol that looks like waves. Water symbolizes emotion, feeling, and unconscious. The water bearer is discarding feelings in favor of thinking by pouring them out of a jug.  Air waves are sharp and geometrically precise. Aquarius is fixed thinking. Thinking is Destiny.

Aquarians are the coolest, most detached, and friendly of all types. While they love free spirited friendships, they avoid intimacy. Much time is spent in a world of their ideas and inventions. They value their freedom of speech and overvalue their own opinions. Aquarians should be aware of their Leo opposition. They seem to think they can solve problems better than other people (and sometimes they can). As independent, progressive, and original beings, they pride themselves on their unconventionality, eccentricities, and uniqueness. They must learn to value their uniqueness for what it is and not for the sake of being different. Many Aquarians relish a revolution when the cause is right. They attract other unconventional and unusual people who they can commune with. The best way to convince an Aquarian to change his or her mind is to be extremely logical. Make good sense. Aquarians love technology. Encourage them to innovate. They’ll be happier.

Uranus, first son of Gaea and Chaos, was ruler of the Sky and Father of the Titans in Greek myth. No matter what your sun sign, strong Uranus symbolism makes for strong Aquarian energy. Uranus is closely conjunct my Gemini Sun. People often ask me how I make a living. My answer ~ I invent ways of making a living. For over half a century, I have steadily transformed from Megalomania, to Egomania, to Ecomania, to Humania.

A keyword for Uranus is sudden change. Sudden and unexpected change is what got me here. Why was shit always hitting the fan when I was about to taste real success? I wasn’t supposed to be doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing.

Uranians can be predictably unpredictable and erratic. Many Aquarians are blue-sky thinkers. Jules Verne ~ sci-fi writer, Buzz Aldrin ~ second man on the moon, Helen Gurley Brown ~ editor of Cosmo, James Dean, Charles Dickens, Michael Jordan, Charles Lindbergh, Bill Maher, Wolfgang Mozart, Paul Newman, and Franklin Roosevelt.

Tarin Chaplin (Dec. 4, 1941 – May 30, 2009)

Tarin Chaplin

An “eco-choreographer,” activist, writer and dancer, Tarin sought to connect people to the earth, the elements, and the sentient and non-sentient beings that share this universe with us (Burlington Free Press). Tarin was a Sagittarian and nature spirit with no planets in Aquarius. She shows us her Aquarian personality by revealing her square palms and widely spread long fingers in an inventive way. Tarin was a bundle of creative expression. She was also practical, responsible, and reliable (crooked middle fingers), which frustrated her sometimes because she over-committed and obligated herself to too many worthy causes that delayed living in her ideal world. The Intimate Act of Choreography is one of Joanna’s favorite dance books and a classic text used in dance departments across the country.

Pattie CanovaPattie Canova is a Taurus. She’s the Queen of Pentacles. Pattie behaves more like an Aquarian, the Queen of Swords, with her square palms, long straight fingers, stiff thumbs, and a strong head life line connection. Pattie is my all~time favorite tarot teacher. I had studied with other tarot teachers, but never truly connected with the archetypes until I met Pattie. Her knowledge and understanding of the 78 archetypes and the corresponding psychology is awesome. Her genuine passion and desire to share what she knows places Pattie way ahead of her competition. Pattie also has the uncanny ability to remember anyone’s and everyone’s names forever. I’m jealous because I have Alzheimer’s for names. Notice how Pattie’s fingers lean toward her index fingers that project outward from her hands ~ Pattie is a ‘Giver’. The bright pink color on the heels of her hands reveals her psychic ability. I’ve watched those lunar mounts glow like hot coals when Pattie’s psychic intuition is cranking. Pattie performs feats of tarot magic on stage and radio. In her unique way, she shares her Aquarian thoughts and ideas in a letter she sent me years ago. I’m sharing them with you.

I know that everyone in their own way ‘hears’ something, either through feeling or insight”.

Jennifer de WitMy sister Jennifer is a Taurus. Her long knotty stiff fingers and thumbs are set on square palms, symbolizing Aquarian behavior.  A fixed thinker, she can be very practical, incredibly logical, and extremely obstinate. I know better than to argue with her. Jenny is a loving parent, partner, daughter, and sister. She’s a compelling story teller, gifted children’s librarian, caring community member, amazing cook, and devoted friend.

GrahamJennifer and her husband Brian suddenly and unexpectedly lost their son, Graham (1/24/1989 – 5/22/2012). Graham, a very talented young Aquarian, was looking forward to embarking on an exciting and fulfilling journey into a mysterious and unknown future.

Jenny and Brian continue to be healthy human beings despite the pain of not being able to watch and share their son’s growing, blossoming, loving, and knowing personal fulfillment. I honor Graham by remembering him and by living my life healthfully and meaningfully. Jenny created an amazing blog to help other people who have suffered devastating losses in their lives – http://www.scoop.it/t/grief-and-loss

Kevin McGuireKevin McGuire ~ Charismatic Capricorn.  It’s impossible not to like him. His Aquarian hands blend structure, discipline, and focus (Saturn) with originality and chance (Uranus). As a stage actor and director, Kevin has starred in plays on Broadway and acted and directed his way around the globe in Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Jane Eyre, Secret Garden, Uncle Vanya, and many others. Kevin has sung for Presidents Clinton, Reagan, and Ford.

OprahOprah Winfrey is an Aquarius and intuitive personality type with rectangular palms and short fingers. Sagittarius rises in her natal chart, blending the best and worst of Athena and Artemis. Oprah is an Alchemist. She turned lead into gold when she transformed an abandoned poor black bastard girl from the south into the self-appointed Queen of mass media. A golden pedestal awaits the goddess in her sacred temple. “Damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t”, Oprah makes a difference, but no matter what and how much she does and gives, it’s still a droplet in an ocean of human suffering, misery, and tragedy. Oprah must balance responsibility and transparency by always being true to herself.

As a mutable thinking type, I relate well with Aquarians. Some of my favorite teachers have been Uranian types. When the all too familiar ‘shit was hitting the fan’ years ago, I sought insight from a psychotherapist. I met with Freudians, Jungians, Reichians, and Adlerians and finally chose a Gestalt psychotherapist because my needs felt immediate. I didn’t want to spend my time combing for clues from my childhood to fix my current challenges.

IanI chose an Aquarian. I call him Ian, for all the “ians” I had rejected. Each session, I’d weave my wordy web of melodrama for Ian. I hoped to earn his understanding and sympathy. When I’d finish, Ian would ask, “So what else is new?”  He’d clean his nails or play with his latest gadget. I felt pissed. Was he listening to me or wasting my time and money? Once I got Ian’s strategy, I knew that he knew exactly when to look in my eyes and talk.

I’d say “but…”  He’d say “and…”  I’d say “can’t…”  He’d say “Don’t want to!” He noticed every gesture and expression and didn’t let me get away with a thing. Ian’s unorthodox methods and clever techniques helped me throw a switch in my thinking and transmute.

As a thinking type, Ian’s hands are much like mine. His square palms and long fingers are held widely apart. The primary difference between us is that my hands and fingers are flexible and Ian’s are stiff. He’s strong willed, focused, and determined. I’m a “jack of all trades, master of none”. Ian helped me to focus and to clarify my thinking. I sought Ian’s friendship as well as his therapeutic skills.

Aquarians make stimulating friends. Ian was fascinated with my hand reading skills. We’d share our ideas and theories for hours following our sessions. As a founding director of a Gestalt Psychology institute, Ian convinced me to participate weekly in an intermediate Gestalt study group. I partook for two years and totally loved the experience. I was able to seamlessly integrate physical, psychological, philosophical, and spiritual archetypes with my knowledge of palmistry. My hand reading expertise brought new perspectives to the group. Psychology compliments metaphysics by providing a foundation for counseling. Counseling is a craft that’s been too often neglected in practices of many self-appointed psychics, readers, and healers. It’s much easier to see something than to know what to say about what you see. What you say and how you say it matters.

In Aquarius, Uranus brings sudden unexpected changes on a grand scale. Uranus takes 84 years to orbit our sun. It surfed the raging rapids of Aquarius from 1912 to 1920.

1912 ~ The “unsinkable” Titanic sunk on its maiden voyage.

1913 ~ A series of tornadoes and floods devastate Middle America, killing over 3,000 people and costing over $100,000,000

1914 ~ World War I began.

1915 ~ A German submarine torpedoed the Lusitania.  The first transcontinental phone call was made by Alexander Graham Bell.

1916 ~ Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa invaded the USA, and President Woodrow Wilson retaliated by sending 6,000 troops into Mexico. The Official Gazette of London published the names of 80 United States firms suspected of trading with Germany.

1917 ~ USA declares war against Germany. The largest race riot in American history occurred in Illinois.

Congress failed to ratify the Treaty of Versailles ~ President Wilson opposed and unsuccessfully took his disagreement to the American people. He died on tour after having a massive stroke.

When Neptune began transiting the sign of Aquarius in 1996, people became even more divided, deceived, and demoralized by the powers that be. As Uranus entered Aquarius in 1996, many esoteric people believed it was the beginning of the Aquarian Age. Humanity would finally get its shit together and would choose real brotherhood and not just what’s fashionable. Instead, the first political act of 1996 was a welfare reform bill that President Bill Clinton signed into effect that made life much harder for poor people. Taiwan had its first democratic election. There were four catastrophic plane crashes.

Male virility became pharmaceutical phenonmenon after Pfizer introduced Viagra. The stock market initiated a new form of gambling they dubbed “internet day trading”. DVDs became the fastest growing consumer electronics product in history.  Bribes and drugs tarnished the Olympics. We lost our innocence, civil liberties, and illusion of security and stability.

bill clintonNeptune rules confusion, illusion, and delusion.  When Neptune entered Aquarius in 1998, the House of Representatives impeached President Clinton. Clinton was accused of giving “perjurious false and misleading” testimony in front of a grand jury. It was bad for the country, but good for the cigar industry. Our government and twenty state attorney generals charged Microsoft Inc. with anti-trust practices for dominating the Internet access market.

When Neptune exited Aquarius in 2012, Neptune’s greatest illusion and deception was how public policy affected old, poor, and sick people, and anyone else who can’t afford to have bad shit happening. Only when we truly see and know what’s truly valuable can we transform our inequities. Narcissistic visions for the future will affect over a billion people aged 65 and over by the middle of the 21st century. Profits of false prophets will continue to confuse, delude, and control the 99%. The Plutocrats who finance our political campaigns own the partisan leaders who control our health care, manage our welfare, gamble with our pensions, and risk our social security. As Neptune entered Pisces in 2012, many old, poor, and sick people were searching for security, stability, and spiritual answers and finding nothing.

CAPRICORN – Responsibility and Purpose and your Middle Finger

Capricorn - Responsibility and Purpose

CAPRICORN

RESPONSIBILITY & PURPOSE

DECEMBER 21 – JANUARY 20

“If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.”

                                                                                                       Martin Luther King Jr.

Jesus ChristThe most famous Capricorn of all time was Jesus Christ. Jesus was a Jewish self-help guru and not for profit Prophet who may have eventually reformed the business of religion had he stuck around. Who needs codes, dogmas, and doctrines when they have spirituality? Jesus shared God’s essence as he spoke the words “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). Jesus was crucified for loving too much.

Martin Luther KingDr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1/15/1929 – 4/4/1968), another lover, was martyred for his fervent beliefs. As a Baptist Minister and passionate Social Rights Activist, Dr. King led the black civil rights movement in the United States from the mid 1950’s until his assassination in 1968. His mission was the pursuit of truth, peace, justice, and equality for all. Martin Luther King’s dream has become our holiday.

Mel GibsonMel Gibson, a Capricorn, irreverently and irresponsibly reveals the dark side of love. Jesus writhes in Heaven as Mel warps his essence and continues to punish us for our sinful ways. Perhaps Mel will capitalize on Dr. King’s final moments and make another movie that he can call LETHAL WEAPON 666.  Even more excuses for him to perpetuate shame, guilt, fear, hate, and justify ongoing torment, torture, and terror. Mel would be less harmful to humanity as a Hummer salesman. He could sell ‘already been road-warriored’ models, like worn jeans or distressed furniture.

Dominant Saturn fingerDominant Saturn types have dominant middle fingers. Your middle finger should always be longest no matter what your archetype. A short middle finger is a life out of balance. Your middle finger embodies your need for and ability to embrace structure, focus, discipline, and responsibility. It shows how serious and reliable a person you are and how you cope with restrictions, obstructions, obligations, and guilt. Dominant middle-fingered people are organized, efficient, patient, dependable, and faithful individuals. A stiff bent Saturn finger along with a long middle phalanx, knotty joints, square fingertips, and short broad nails symbolizes obsessive order, method, and punctuality. Saturnians become guilty, pessimistic, fearful, easily frustrated, depressed, and vindictive when things don’t go well. Most self-critical of all archetypes, they habitually must relearn how to “lighten up and smell the roses”. Traditional music and dry humor sometimes helps.

Saturnians are the most serious and responsible of all types. The firm consistency of their hands, resilient elasticity of their skin, flat square palms, short stiff squarish fingers and fingertips, and dominant middle fingers with dominant first and middle phalanges make them a different kind of Initiator than Aries, Cancer, or Libra types. Their every thought and action must have a purpose. They make great business leaders and managers who embrace responsibility with energy and enthusiasm. As they carry out the specifics of their everyday business, they also maintain a long-range vision of their final goal. As structured, focused, disciplined, and dependable individuals, they expect you to be on time and do as you say. They have little patience for excuses. As natural skeptics, they don’t trust slick and flashy types. As workaholics, they don’t think twice about coming in early or staying late when a task needs to be finished. Despite their powerful ambitions, they patiently bide their time until the proper conditions present themselves.

Practical, prudent, and persistent, Saturnians are easily frustrated and aggravated when their strategies don’t go according to plan. Their overdeveloped sense of responsibility and obligation frequently causes them to feel guilt and shame. Many have a cynical, sarcastic, or fatalistic sense of humor rooted in a pessimism that they’d much prefer to hide. They can be extremely defensive or offensive when they become depressed. Pure Saturnian types rarely stray from provincial, traditional, or conventional ways.

HermitIn ancient Greece, Capricorn was ruled by Chronos, Saturn in Roman Myth and Western Astrology. “Father Time” is present wherever structure, discipline, and focus are required. He’s a strategic planner. At best, he’s healthy, happy, wise, prosperous, and caring. At worst, he’s frustrated, controlling, depressed, greedy, and self-destructive.

Abraham Lincoln

Capricorns want to be number one. Muhammad Ali was King of Boxing. Elvis Presley was King of Rock ‘n Roll. Tiger Woods was Prince of Golf. Humanitarianism and Medicine produced Albert Schweitzer and Louis Pasteur. David Bowie and Rod Stewart are Capricornian musical prodigies. Daniel Day-Lewis (Taurus with strong Saturn) was cast as Abraham Lincoln, a pure type. Clint Eastwood is a Gemini with dominant middle fingers. Paul Cezanne and Henri Matisse were French artists who were ruled by Saturn.

ScroogeScrooge is the epitome of Saturnian stinginess because he chooses greed and materialism over caring and generosity. Relationships are only important as they relate to profit. Master criminals ruled by Saturn never depend on cleverness or spontaneity like Aries, Gemini, and Sagittarian types. Saturnians carefully strategize every move and bide their time.

Bernie EbbersGhosts of Christmas past, present, and future will haunt Bernard Ebbers for eternity. As former CEO of WorldCom, Ebbers hugely contributed to society by making telecommunications competitive. Too bad he compromised principles he once valued in order to reach his goal of power and worldly achievement. Bernie played both sides against the middle and got caught in the squeeze.

Donald RumsfeldDominant middle-fingered people tend to be tall, slender, and angular in appearance. They often have dark hair, large bones, stern features, and bland complexions. They’re loners; distant and needing private time, even when married. Their prevailing physical sense is smell. Many love string instruments and prefer classical music with a tinge of sadness. They may eventually have physical problems with teeth, knees, ligaments, rheumatism, hardening of the arteries, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, and deafness in the left ear. When a middle finger leans toward the ring finger you have an individual with a strong need for privacy and personal space. I guarantee that when Donald Rumsfeld feels confined or controlled, he becomes cranky and irritable. You can see it in his face.

A majority of scientists, technical individuals, conservative businessmen, researchers, writers, craftsmen, therapists, night watchman, undertakers, morticians, and derelicts have dominant middle fingers. They have manifested their strong Saturn differently.

Janet - CapricornJanet is a pragmatist with crooked middle fingers and separated head and lifeline on her dominant hand. This combination of features makes her a very independent freedom loving perfectionist with an overly developed sense of responsibility, obligation, and guilt. There’s always a ‘should or supposed to’ in the way of that adventure she wishes she was having. Janet is a high-powered corporate consultant in the publishing industry.

NeptuneHistorically, during the late twentieth century, the planets Uranus and Neptune transited the sign of Capricorn. When Uranus transited Capricorn from 1989 to 1996, political institutions and structures were revolutionized. The Iron Curtain and Berlin Wall were ripped down. On October 3, 1990, Germany was reunited as the political demarcation between East and West vanished. The Soviet Union disintegrated into fifteen republics in December of 1991. The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibited discrimination against the disabled.

VoyagerUranus also brought us the Voyager space probe that successfully explored the outer limits of our solar system. At the end of Uranus’s transit, the US and theJohnny Carson UN brokered a prickly cease-fire and hopefully ended ethnic cleansing. Representatives from over 100 countries met in Rio de Janeiro in June of 1992 to discuss how to better preserve the earth. Their good intentions haven’t worked. Johnny Carson retired after 30 years of hosting The Tonite Show on NBC TV.

Arafat and RabinExpect the unexpected with Uranus. PLO leader Yassar Arafat shook hands with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in an effort to end hatred. The Irish Republican Army agreed to lay down its arms in exchange for a role in Northern Ireland’s political future. The Brady Bill concerning gun control was signed into law thirteen years after Brady was shot and paralyzed. The NRA is more powerful than ever. Smoking was banned in New York City restaurants. Women began smoking cigars.

ChernobylWhen the planet Neptune transited the sign of Capricorn from 1984 -1998, lines between chemical industries and moral responsibilities dissolved. A gas leak at a Union Carbide plant in India killed over 3,000 people. British scientists pinpointed a hole in the earth’s ozone layer. Two years later in 1987, after seeing the hand writing on the wall, fifty-three nations signed a treaty pledging to reduce the number of CFCs in the atmosphere. This also hasn’t worked. The most serious nuclear accident in history occurred at Chernobyl. Thirty-one people died instantly and another 40,000 were diagnosed with cancer from exposure to radiation. The wreck of the Exxon Valdez was the worst oil spill in history, contaminating hundreds of miles of Alaska shoreline and killing many thousands of creatures.

Hey Monsanto

Strong Middle Finger

Monsanto, creator of Agent Orange, PCBs, DDT, and Dioxins, launched their first “Round-up Ready” GMO soybean, which was approved by the FDA in 1994. “Frankenfood” became the focus of environmental activists and comedians on late night TV. Mad Cow disease mysteriously appeared in the UK in 1996. The slim line between science and science fiction was crossed when the first sheep was cloned in Scotland in 1997. The FDA approved a drug called AZT, designed to treat AIDS. In 1997 and 1998, El Nino was attributed to bizarre bad weather conditions.

Bill CosbyCapricorn transformed the image of fatherhood. Bill Cosby was the most popular father figure in 1984. Saturn was in Scorpio. Bill must not have been practicing what he was preaching or Saturn would not have punished him when he returned to Scorpio in 2014. Racial bigots Archie Bunker and Homer Simpson became two of the most popular fathers of all time. ‘Married with Children’ gave us a completely different view of fatherhood. Disney produced the popular father and son story, ‘The Lion King’. Murphy Brown revealed her animus to the world. General Electric purchased media giants NBC and RCA.

In the world of big business, Ivan Boesky preached virtuosity and honesty and then got busted for insider trading. A frenzy of mergers, acquisitions, and takeovers in the ‘80s destabilized financial institutions. When the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) collapsed, regulators from 69 countries seized their assets and charged that officers had been hiding substantial losses from investors. The guys at the top got away with it. History repeats itself. Congress closed the House of Representatives Bank in the wake of scandal in 1992.

Ronald ReaganNeptune also dissolved political structures. Gorbachev reformed controls that kept the Soviet Union together. Growing concern over the federal deficit catalyzed the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Act as the Reagan deficit soared to 2 trillion dollars (2X 1981). On Black Monday, the stock market suffered a mini-crash with a huge drop in stock prices. Texaco filed the largest bankruptcy in history.

Follow the moneyPluto entered Capricorn in 2009. Ninety-nine percent of people began to become aware of the power of the other one percent. The beginning of the end of Plutocracy, faulty financial foundations, and deceptive business practices was born and still has a very long way to go. Commerce, politics, and religion will transform as greed, corruption, and shadowy secrets are exposed on top levels of business, government, and religion.

GoogleNostradamus was a Capricorn. We’re still interpreting his astrological predictions. Here is my generalized and fairly obvious ‘whether forecast’ for Pluto in Capricorn. The NY Stock Exchange, born May 17 1792 under the sign of Taurus will be upset as the bubble created by the illusion of social security bursts. Prepare for widely fluctuating interest rates and inflation. Broken systems will be scrutinized and reformed. Cyber-Terrorism will reach into everyone’s computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices. New and revolutionary ways of managing energy and environment will be implemented on a larger scale. Recycling and reuse will become more practical and cost effective. More women will come into positions of greater power. The Federal Reserve Bank, born in Capricorn (12/23/1913), will experience major upheaval. It was designed as a way of keeping the mega-rich from controlling all the wealth by forcing banks to keep a certain percentage of their assets in the Federal Reserve. The private money of Plutocrats currently owns the majority of votes in Congress and the Senate.

Declaration of IndependenceMost astrologers agree that the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4 1776. That places the U.S. Sun, Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury in the sign of Cancer. As Pluto opposes these planets and we try harder to control everyone and everything, we will have greater difficulty maintaining control of our status as an economic power and world leader. There’s dispute among astrologers as to whether the USA horoscope has Gemini or Sagittarius rising. Either way, we’ll continue to be short sighted and to behave immaturely like spoiled little children. NYC’s charter was signed on January 1 1898 at 12:01 am. As Pluto conjuncted NYC’s Sun in Capricorn in 2013, it inaugurated chaos on both physical and financial infrastructures, public transportation, and corruption. Expect more chaos, along with more hurricanes and other natural anomalies. The Constitution of the USSR (12/21/1922) has Capricorn rising. Anticipate more political and economic upheaval as Pluto transits its first house. Where does responsibility begin and accountability end?  We’ll come to know and understand why the bottom line can no longer justify the means before Pluto exits Capricorn.

Here’s a blog post describing my scary hand reading session with a Saturnian client.
